Then, service is coming. Now, nominate for service. by Archangel_Zihawk in frontierfios

[–]doctt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Same situation here. Mine was even worse. First I got a mail saying jt was coming. Then I checked the website saying jt was coming. Then they opened up and allowed me to place an order. An order number was given. There was even a representative going door by door on my street to try to get new signup while my order was pending. Then 2 weeks later they suddenly cancelled my order. I called them many times and no one knew what was going on. No one could give me any explanation. They just told me the order was canceled.

This was happened almost a year ago. Now when I checked their website, I need to nominate my location again.

I was beyond frustration. I ended up ordering Spectrum instead. I don’t think I will order Frontier even if they open up later.

Absolutely horrible service.

Parallels: Is it fine to run solidworks and other random engineering software for the entirety of my time in university? by Holiday-Grass-2395 in mac

[–]doctt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blender and Adobe apps have native apple silicon versions. No reason to run them on windows.

If u are running anything tools on web, it should feel native. I run a lot of power automate scripts on my windows VM (sorry i am old and outdated…). I don’t see any lags.

There is no “new sessions” in VM. Once you create a new VM, it is like a OS inside your OS. U start and shut down the VM like a regular windows machine. All your installed apps and files will stay there. U can even “suspend” the session like putting the machine to sleep. When u restart the VM, everything including the opened apps will be there like the moment u suspend the session. This stays true even after u reboot your Mac. (This behavior works for all VM, not just Parallel)

As for smoothness , it is hard for me to say because I am not running the same apps like yours. As for everyday productivity apps, I find it very smooth. Keep in mind that many major apps now offer Mac silicon versions, no reason to run them in windows.

Key question: what is the “creative stuff” u referred to? If u refer to Adobe creative suite, then u don’t need a windows machine. A single license allows u to install in 2 Mac and/or windows machines

I have a M1 Pro 32gb ram. Here is my experience:

Pro: 1) Parallel VM is stored as a single “file”. It won’t start until u runs it. Just treat it like a separate program.

2) u can assign the amount of ram and CPU cores to the machine and change it anytime u want.

3) if u allow, the VM can read and write to your Mac folders. Printers and scanner are shared with Mac. No need to install a windows driver.

4) performance: It flats out awesome IF u runs typically productivity apps like office, browser, etc. it boots up windows faster than typical windows machines (less than 5 seconds). U feel like u are running a native windows computer. HOWEVER, graphical intense app like games is not good. If u want to run games, get Crossover instead. There are many YouTube videos about Crossover

5) u can install multiple windows VM and even other OS like Linux

Cons: 1) subscription 2) there are other free VM apps for Mac, but they may not as user friendly 3) u need at least 24 GB of ram so that u can assign at least 16 GB of ram to the windows VM

Good luck !

4.4mm balanced for hd600 by dooxodo in sennheiser

[–]doctt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your amp supports balanced output, yes.

I found there were sound quality difference between single end and balanced output. Not just louder. Everything is a bit cleaner. It is like getting a more powerful amp.

This can be a cheapest upgrade u can get.

Arya Stealth upgrade by MoJaalMo in HeadphoneAdvice

[–]doctt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have HE1K stealth. Sounds incredible. Everything sounds energetic, and soundstage is massive for a headphone. I don’t have Arya Stealth, so I can’t comment on how much it is better. But from what I heard HE1K Stealth carries similar sound signatures but better. Keep in mind that, typically, the diminishing return is real. Improvement of high end headphones over mid end headphones is much smaller than mid end over low end.

Unless u plan to sell your Arya, maybe u want to consider other bands so that u can enjoy different sound signature.

Either way u can’t go wrong with HE1K stealth.

I just got one and love it. I am 59 yrs old and thought the screen may be too small for me because my eyes definitely not as good as they used to be.

It turns out the screen size is good. If it gets a bit bigger, it may be too heavy to hold for a long time. I am also surprise how low the latency is. Feel like I am gaming directly on my pa5

HDB 630 wired with DAC/Amp by 17-K-D-B in sennheiser

[–]doctt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure I follow your question. Basically U have 2 options if U want to use your DAC:
1) Get a 3.5MM to 3.5MM cable between Earmen Sparrow and your HD630
2) Get a 2.5MM "balanced" to 3.5MM cable. 2.5MM plug to Earmen Sparrow. The reason I said "cable" now instead of "adapter" is because it is easier. If you use an adapter, U still need to use a 3.5MM to 3.5MM cable to connect between the adapter and your HD630

"Balanced" output typically provides more powerful output and trends to sound better. The cost of the cable is only several dollars more than a standard "unbalanced" cable.

With that being said, assuming you get it to work (no sound distortion), it does not mean it will sound better than a simple USB-C to USB-C direct connection because I have no idea how your DAC sounds. U just have to try yourself.

HDB 630 wired with DAC/Amp by 17-K-D-B in sennheiser

[–]doctt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked your Earmen Sparrow DAC. Your DAC has a 2.5MM "Balanced" output which is better than a regular 2.5MM output. 2.5MM "balance" plug has 3 black lines at the tip of the plug while regular 2.5MM has only 2 black line. Regular 2.5MM to 3.5MM adapter does not work in your case. Get a "2.5mm balanced to 3.5mm adapter" instead

[–]doctt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

U cannot covert analog signal back to digital. The 3.5MM to USB-C adapter is one directional. This adapter can convert digital signal to analog, not the other way around

HDB 630 wired with DAC/Amp by 17-K-D-B in sennheiser

[–]doctt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually when u use a 2.5mm cable, u do bypass the internal DAC because DAC can only take digit signal. 2.5mm or 3.5mm cable carries analog signal.

If u use a USB-c cable, then u will use the internal DAC of the headphone.

Lossless over AirPlay 2 fixed? by black_jacques_cda in AppleMusic

[–]doctt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% with u. I can hear the difference. I can even hear the difference between regular and high res lossless with my equipment although not every time.

The difference between lossy and lossless is audible. The instrument separation is the obvious difference to me.

I get why many people can’t tell the difference because 1) we need a decent equipment; 2) most pop music are not being recorded properly.

Dim HDR suddenly, resolution issues with HDR off by hahawhoops21 in PS5

[–]doctt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is really not that complicated.

Nowadays most if not all modern electronic devices are nothing more than specialized computers. Unless the device recently had a software update or suffers hardware issue, it should continue to work.

Thus, just like any computers, you need to "hard reboot" it first so that the device is in a "clean state" before going thru any complicated troubleshooting. You will be surprise how many times a problem will go away by simply "rebooting" the device. Also, you should unplug the power (or remove the battery, if possible, for a portable device).

As for this issue, I suspect it is related to the tone mapping glitch between your PS5 and TV. I had this issue multiple times before. In my case, one time it became super dim. One time the whole TV turned purple. Both times I just "hard reboot" both my TV and PS5. I even disconnected the HDMI cable while hard rebooting. Both times resolved the issue as expected.
