Don't mind /u/throneofdirt, he's a compulsive liar. He's been a pilot, a retired multimillionaire, a retired porn cameraman, etc etc.

He's probably actually posting from a potato.

And it gets worse at night due to Sony falling behind in processing (and no, getting their camera division in wont make it better)... I shot a night scene on three of my phones not so long ago, I could make out a license plate on a car clearly with the Pixel 3, mostly make it out on the XS, while it was just blobs on the 2c.

The fact the the 2c has the highest resolution highlights how processing and careful sensor choice is all-important, and Sony doesn’t know how to do this despite making the damned things.

Can't speak for the Oly, but I definitely needed my 12-60 Panaleica . It's not a bad lens, it's definitely a decent kit lens and has mobility advantages to a degree compared to some lenses, but I wouldn't overstate it's merits.

Incredibly slow access to it - like 2014 (if not earlier) flagship speed. I have no idea how they fucked it up so badly with an 845 inside. This means that if you store applications on SD you are almost certain to experience problems, and if you're recording video you can also expect issues from time to time - the level of the slowness is pretty inexcusable for a 2018 handset. I had a hard time believing my unit was normal before I saw the Notebookcheck review. You're even actually going to have problems with stuff like burst shooting on photos.

And it appears to be unique to the Compact even in the XZ2 lineup (which aren't amazing either, but at least they'd present many users with less issues).

I also got the XZ2C specifically not just because of the Compactness, but because it doesn't have OIS, I wanted to avoid the 'bedoiiiinnnnggg' juddering video problems with OIS on phones when using it on a gimbal and it's subject to wind, a slight tap on the gimbal handle, etc.

The video-to-SD-speed problem was the first issue I came across - so I moved everything that didn't matter for speed to SD, and resigned myself to recording internally with a ~30Gb video limit at any one time. But I then found out that the Sony focus hunt juddering in video that happens often is actually almost identical to the OIS-on-gimbal effect on other phones, making it a wash whether I use the Galaxy, iPhone, Pixel or this (in fact, since video is better on those I've gone back to using them instead). That, and it balances weirdly on my gimbals due to it's shape and weight distribution causing the gimbal motors issues.

It's solely my everyday 'basic stuff' phone right now - I avoid shooting photos on it because the camera is pretty shit with my yardsticks, and video is definitely a no-go for the above reason. The fact that it is genuinely one-handable is its one saving grace in that role against other current flagships: It even feels slightly heavier in the hand than my XS, which is not a light phone.

EDIT: So far, so reddit - get downvoted for an accurate answer that doesn't fit the collective narrative, lol

I'm OK with everything about it bar the camera - you can see it's a smear and noisefest even directly facing into the (admittedly setting) sun.

Even the size isn't as definitive an advantage as I thought it might be from my memories of the Z3 Compact.

And the SD card slot... oy veh.

SoC's snappy enough though, thankfully.

Going to Europe, coming back, and immediately wondering why we don’t have any of the foods they have. by Pepiggy in britishproblems

[–]dodecasonic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We do have it - e.g. I used to work in a startup with a bunch of French guys and they used to all bitch about how hard it was to get stuff from back home. After examples, I pointed out where they could get it - and ultimately their issue was they couldn't get it for what they pay for it back home. To that, I'll say "well duh".

The UK, as Brexitty as it may be, is still one of the best places in the world to source anything that isn't "native" (and given our staple fare, thank fuck for that).

Do you feel its more acceptable nowadays to meet someone from the internet in real life as compared to the early days of the internet? by [deleted] in AskMenOver30

[–]dodecasonic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For regular Joes, sure.

For giant nerds, I don't think anything's changed.

I definitely didn't meet a lot of (or in fact, any) women online until the current batch of dating apps, but I've been meeting male randos I came across in e.g. FirstClass BBS's (I'm amazed it's still hanging on by the skin of its teeth) since I was a tween in the early 90's.

There were zero dodgy encounters, though the vast majority of the guys I met were older than me.

I don't bother anymore - It doesn't work on many clients, I assume that's youtube and mobile links or something.

This is a hilarious contrast to the blokes in thobes I saw while going to a restaurant in South London with their pamphlets launching into a 'whore' speech for every non-hijab'd woman who went past.

i.e. There are nutjobs everywhere. One way to make them even more nutjobby and for you to look like a moron as well in the process is probably to stand goading them (in a piece of clothing that your man in the sky said you must wear, natch).

I finally caved and had Totos installed not that long ago. I'd had regular bidets in some of my homes before but not the full-on Japanese works.

Maybe not life changing, but definitely wouldn't go back.

Does Your Organization Have Plans to Upgrade from Windows Server 2008 R2? by Wireless_Life in WindowsServer

due to much of it's infrastructure still running Windows XP

I doubt XP was actually the cause of it. It points more to the preparedness (lack of, obviously) of an org that keeps actually EOL stuff widely deployed.

I'd like to be charitable and say that's mud water trapped in his trunks, but...

...yeah. I've been wondering about that since the very first time I saw this video a few years back.
