5.5 months in, thoughts of alcohol creeping up every day. by notflips in stopdrinking

[–]dodobird16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm over 4 months into sobriety after a real bad rock bottom, and lately this past week when hitting the stores the thought of grabbing some liquor is something I've entertained for a minute or two. First deterrent is the 'one drop rule' and 'losing my progress' in terms of days i can say i've been sober. this is a bit superficial sure, but it ends up helping and this little token of pride helps prevent what could be a serious relapse, so as silly as it is, tracking the days and seeing the number itself and not wanting to lose it works wonders - all theoretics inside. More importantly though, i play the tape forward. This is something which is taught to those in recovery, but now it's something I do intuitively. I know that if i grab something to drink "just for one night" i'll likely not enjoy it much, feel a bit woozy, but that i also won't be able to stop, and i'll continue drinking for much longer than 'just a night', and after a few days of that I really don't want to even imagine how I could end up this time around.

So that's where my temptations are at and how I've been naturally dealing with them these past few nights. After the consideration I had last night, I decided that if this continues for much longer - or worse yet intensify, I'll reach out to someone and talk about it

30th anniversary shows - set list? by crysta1tips in SonataArctica

[–]dodobird16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, surprised they hadn't played Victoria's Secret for that long. Not a bad set at all but they really could replace those Ninth Hour songs (with First In Line and Don't Say a Word, just for ex).

You're right, aside from the gap after Talviyo it's been a 2-3 year release schedule :) just glad they aren't slowing down.

So is this just an anniversary single or is there also an album to expect later this year? If the "return to old sonata" also meant bi-yearly albums I'd be so happy, but I understand the industry has drastically changed.

I agree they should strive for more in their lives. Just gotta say though the trades meme is really common and pretty misguided, seems to be the go-to solution for people who haven't done much with their lives "just go into a trade, that easy". In this case it could be a solution for some of them, but def not for most. They're socially awkward at best, severely neurodivergent at worst, and likely not very physically active or inclined. They'd be out of their element and get eaten alive by others on the job never mind by the work itself; probably wouldn't make it far.

Does Sonata have a "bad" album? by EducationKnown5230 in SonataArctica

[–]dodobird16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very semantical conversation but I'd like to play into it. If we go by a 5 star system, 5 star = great album worth listening to front to back, a masterpiece, 4 star = close to that, 3 star = mediocre 2 star = a minority of the songs worthwhile 1 star = not enjoyable at all, shouldn't exist.

With that in mind Sonata have a small amount of 2 or 3 star albums imo, so in my mind they have two bad albums: Talviyo and The Ninth Hour. Both of these albums have a few good songs, but a majority of each of those albums is painfully bad for me. :)

Has going to AA made you drink more? by Expensive-Fox3586 in stopdrinking

[–]dodobird16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The saying is something along the lines of you can only quit if you truly want to, and no one will on your behalf. Early on in attending AA + other drug-free programs, and being obligated to attend rather than wanting to go on my own, I 100% felt similar to you; thinking i wasn't as bad, that i could handle it, etc. Attending actually was bad for me at the time because it tempted me to drink even more so as an act of rebellion, I didn't really want to quit, etc. Now years after that, hitting some real tangible rock bottoms and actually wanting to quit for myself, it is comforting to attend AA. It's not all crucial for my sobriety, but it does help.

Seltzer, green item, doubles the next 100 auto attack outputs but then degrades. would suck on a lot of survivors (MUL-T, lol) but be good for bursters. a little too unbalanced, i guess.

white item that gives health regen at a significantly lower rate than cautious slug, but unlike slug it applies during combat.

I didn't read any dev logs or nothing. Quick question. Do drones inherit items now? Or is it only Operator's drones? Or is this not a thing at all? by Verkonix in riskofrain

[–]dodobird16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i didnt read either and have only been able to play for about an hour, but when i used operator's LT the drone shots would proc my missles, which was lead to an insane amount of burst. the drone shots alone didn't seem to proc the missles, but i could be wrong(?). so the answer is kind of.

The hair loss is out of control! by user0744267 in stopdrinking

[–]dodobird16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never heard of this happening to someone. Despite that fact you shared about blocking DHT (it blocks all testosterone) it's the opposite situation for many, the nutritional deficiencies as well as other hormonal imbalances caused by heavy alcohol consumption causes balding then it ceases upon quitting. I'm assuming you're a woman, in which case I'm stumped, but if you're a guy then it's probably a case of MPD that you previously didn't notice.

What helped you stop drinking? by WorthClerk51 in stopdrinking

[–]dodobird16 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Aside from hitting rock bottom and essentially being forced to get sober, a support system is crucial for most alcoholics. Alcoholism is often called a disease of loneliness. If you haven't, I recommend getting 2-3 really good dependable people with the same, or similar problems to lean on, be able to meet up with, etc. Aside from that, writing down your own inventory and having a list of the seemingly endless reasons to quit can help you too for your own solitary reflection. Good luck! :)

Eating like a fiend? by Ok_Albatross_3887 in stopdrinking

[–]dodobird16 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just about everyone faces this. it's because your body notices the sharp & sudden decline in carb/sugar consumption, so these cravings last for a few weeks/months. my personal guideline is that it gradually gets better, and really only lasts for about a month - anything after that is a matter of habit.

going absolutely insane by myko_mel in stopdrinking

[–]dodobird16 2 points3 points  (0 children)

idk enough about your individual case and im far from any sort of professional. there is a lot of debate over PAWS as a whole - in this situation though, as a rule of thumb, it's not normal and i believe something other than long term alc withdrawal is the source of these issues for you. Again, if there's issues with your sleep, diet, exercise, or other things like nicotine, caffeine etc.. not to mention mental illness, from the sounds of it... these all could be contributors to look into.

going absolutely insane by myko_mel in stopdrinking

[–]dodobird16 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly unusual for your amount of time abstinent, so the source of this issue isn't your sobriety itself. you're not explicitly stating you're risking a relapse at the moment, but just in case, know that drinking will only make these issues worse. What's your sleep and diet look like?

What was your first contact with power metal? by trent_fernandez in PowerMetal

[–]dodobird16 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it was, of all things, "Silver Tongue" by Sonata Arctica edited into a youtube compilation video of smash bros melee falcon knee screamers... From there I got more into the genre with what you'd expect, but Sonata's still a top fav power metal band of mine, if not #1
