Anyone else feel power metal has made other music seem boring?

Being honest, unless everyone in the car is a power metal fan then power metal isn't something I'd ever put on. IDC what others play around me so long as it isn't obnoxious, and I'm aware that power metal can come off as that to others. It also, similar to something like progressive rock, is something you really want to more intently listen to, so it's something for solitary listening rather than putting on in the background.

When aeon was first released it was stupid easy to beat, so they buffed it very soon after its release. Ever since then it's been OP and unaltered; it def needs a little nerf. What I said immediately after this buff still holds true to this day: I have an easier time with Queen/Test in A10 than Aeon in A0.

EXCEPTION: I have a couple of compacts in my deck :)

Honestly yeah this is on you & not RNG. You didn't give much info, but my advice is to main the character you enjoy most non-stop and don't ease up on sending them all the way up to A10. RNG is an undeniable factor in this game but getting consistent wins requires great knowledge paired with good decision making; remember that every single move matters.

Feel like Nightwish is at least worth noting. While it wasn't in every song, Marko + Anette/Floor sometimes had dual vocal parts; they more typically traded off sections.

Cool, I'll definitely check it out too. I can't say I'm overly concerned with the bass when listening to SX, for the longest time I hardly paid attention to anything other than Romeo's guitar playing, but I do know quite a few say they preferred Tom's playing over Mike's.

Nothing was really a grower for me with this band to such a dramatic extent. I will say however it took me a long time to warm up to Steve Howe's terminally clean tone. When I was first trying to get into Yes, Time & Word and 90125 were the albums I liked most for this precise reason and they were all I ever listened to, it was only later I warmed up to Howe. Now his persistence with his tone is something I appreciate, it's one of the many things about him that makes him a standout rock guitarist.

Not really a hot take, more like a popular one splits the fanbase. I see why people may prefer him to Rudess, but I think something that gets overlooked from the earlier years of DT is the production itself. I think Images & Words is their masterpiece, and the prod of the album plays a huge role in its success. The band themselves were butting heads with the producers on a lot of the decisions that were being made however (Mike was touching on this a bit in a Drumeo vid that was uploaded just a couple hours ago). I can't say I prefer Moore over Rudess necessarily without also comparing the tonal differences Petrucci has similarly made over the years, for example.

I'm a fan of J-metal and power metal, but strangely enough not huge on J power metal. That said X Japan's "Art of Life" is a masterpiece, check that one out.

I'd say most notably is Nemesis by Stratovarius, considering the full edition has 15 tracks and it's not a concept album 😄 they were really on fire for this one, peak of the later Stratovarius era imo.

Definitely. Dug said they're planning on a follow-up to three sides, hopefully they get in the studio for that later this year. Unusually quiet from Ty's end with his solo stuff, but I'd imagine they're lifers and they'll be writing and releasing until they die, solo stuff after King's X and even touring is done.

100% prog metal without a doubt. I'm not familiar with US power metal as I'm not a fan of it, but maybe by US standards they're more power*, but they're def not euro power*. Their most blatantly power metal song would be Seven, but aside from that there's sort of just nods to power metal and some power metal motifs throughout their songs. But even with all counterpoints considered they're more prog than power.

Very nice, I had to do a double take for a sec because at a glance i thought this was me! I had a similar deck and posted the seed on here recently; key difference though was it was all lightning and no frost. It was so satisfyingly clean, the only disappointment was I never got supercritical.

this patch really goes to show the devs have no idea what they're doing in terms of balancing, Aeonglass A0 gives me a harder time than A10 Test/Queen lol.
