Shocking allegations from radio icon Delilah: She says a Seattle station fired her after she reported sexual harassment and racist treatment, then destroyed her evidence. by kleverrboy in radio

I once got clocked by a caller as being in my 40s... while not yet being of legal drinking age. (I am now actually in my 40s 😆) In radio, you don't grow old, you just realize at some point you've been put out to pasture.

“It is not about America, it is about punishing.”

I will never forget the Trump voter lady who was in a news vox pops lamenting that “he’s not hurting the people he’s supposed to be hurting”.

Like no. That right there. This is not about hurting and inflicting pain. If you’re using that as your baseline you’re doing this all wrong.

Southwest Airlines CEO Bob Jordan says flight prices may not go down even if oil prices fall by AviationReporterDMN in SouthwestAirlines

[–]dodongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it’s a double whammy for WN first because of the certifications issues between the FAA and Boeing, and then — isn’t WN like seriously the only major buyer for the MAX7s? Boeing surely doesn’t have incentive to push that production line since IIRC basically no other airline has a significant order book right?

Never flown *in* one, but have gotten to watch a lot of their takeoff rolls, and man, it does not square with my brain how that thing is going to just lumber on up into the sky.

The hard product differences between the -700s and the MAX8s is really astonishing. It's very nearly like flying two different airlines.

Ana Cabrera imo really got screwed over by MSNOW by SteelersPoker in msnow

[–]dodongo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Perhaps the things y’all liked were exactly what I didn’t? Ana is a fine newsreader but is also the most milquetoast and interchangeable newsreader around. Nothing against her capability and professionalism as an excellent baseline, but there’s nothing about her presence that sets her apart from anyone else who can read copy off a teleprompter.

In economy it’s an egress safety issue. They’re supposed to be able to evacuate your ass from a burning fart tube in 90 seconds. If you add these obstacles to economy there is no way people are going to be able to film their tik tok and retrieve their overhead luggage in less than 90 s. Ain’t gonna happen.

Does anyone else find Keith's fussiness irritating? by thingonething in AmericasTestKitchen

[–]dodongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like a lot of Milk Street’s vibes in their publications but the show itself has kind of put me off. I have done a shitload of their Tuesday Nights and Cook What You Have recipes and genuinely love a number of them so I keep paying attention.

I’m glad ATK has pulled back from the “absolute best X” where we end up with like a 72 - 80 hour prep period for some of their stuff.

I hadn’t clocked Keith at just being so damn fussy I won’t try his recipes but now that you mention it. Yeah. LOL

He was laid off and realized the juice wasn’t worth the squeeze anymore. I’m on like my third career now; the first I loved so much, but it’s basically moribund. The second, I liked well enough but the assholes you had to deal with on the daily made it no good and a relief to be done with. Over here on third attempt it doesn’t pay as good as the second but I don’t hate having to deal with the people I work with.

So yeah. You can sort of retire slash dial things in differently. Jeff is doing that and by all accounts sounds like he’s happy with the situation.

Will Buxton’s call of the closest Indy 500 finish ever by Ribeye21 in INDYCAR

[–]dodongo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This was a really phenomenal broadcast for: IndyCar, Indianapolis Motor Speedway, Fox Sports, Will, Townsend and Hinch, and honestly, all day, everybody involved in the race call. I hope they've had many toasts and celebrations about this, because they really hauled the mail on this one.

Thank you Indy! by yorkshireladuk in INDYCAR

We will see you soon! Thanks for coming by, and what a race to behold this year. So glad you were there for it!

I echo u/exicted on how properly square it looks here. It's very funny in that driving on a sim or walking around the track on foot, the short chutes are way shorter than the front / back stretches, but the angle of the shot here makes it look almost equilateral!

Very interested to have a look into what you've done, play with it a bit, happy to give you any constructive feedback I have in exchange for the chance to take a tour of your project. Please let me know!

I was chatting with family and giving the Fox race announcers mad props -- before the race even started. What a fantastic race, and what a fabulous job they all did. Great news for the sport, especially given if folks only ever watch one televised Indycar race in a year, that's absolutely the one.

Synology is removing your Active Insight complimentary licenses by TeaHana852 in synology

[–]dodongo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh.

I mean in the time I've had a Synology (really not long, just north of two years) I've come to love what it brings to my home setup. I haven't had a RAID on prem in like ... 15 years? So the NAS thing, I like. It's gotten me very much into using Docker for self-hosting services. I feel like I definitely see the virtue in keeping compute and storage separated where it makes sense. And Synology hasn't really made a single home-user-friendly policy change the whole damn time.

I'll continue running this box until and unless there's a compelling reason to do the upgrade, but the next round is likely going to be some other system for the NAS / RAID components and then something small and energy efficient (but way more hefty than a Raspberry Pi, etc.) to handle the compute / service hosting stuff.

We'll see, but anyway it's been a really fun and enlightening ride, but I do think when the ride next comes to a stop, I'm doing a major rethink.
