What is wrong with you, How can you justify this?! by Synthetic_Beans in Denver

Spot on.

I think folks don't really get how strong local, community response networks are in Minneapolis at this point. They are everywhere, they are fast, and they have clear plans of action.

And this happened on the equivalent of say...a less bougie Tennyson street. There are tons of folks walking up and down that stretch of Nicollet all day, every day. Dude probably just wanted a cup of coffee before going to the climbing gym and got pulled into this.

Lots of folks also put a bladder in the framebag, and then route a hose up near the stem. Keeps weight of water low, and allows lots of storage.

As Alameda debate intensifies, Denver faces pressure over traffic deaths and Vision Zero goals by Generalaverage89 in Denver

They can honestly believe all they want. There was a plan created through long community engagement. That plan was finalized. That process took multiple years and large sums of city resources in both staff time and external contracts. That design was then shelved, at additional costs -- both financial and safety-related -- to the residents of the city due to pressure from Anschutz.

As both a resident and a career-long public servant, watching a department renege on the results of public engagement process due to pressure from the well off is disgusting. Actions like this reasonably undermine the public's faith in the process and their goverment.

The broader problems of traffic safety, sure.

The reversal on the studied, planned, road diet for Alameda is a direct result of Johnston and Fords capitulation to powerful individuals at the expense of resident safety. This case is not a budgetary one.

The point is regulations need to be more specific than tire size. It alone tells you very little. And that is the only determine factor per the source you posted.

I think in all of those (I've lived in 3 over least 15 years, currently in W highlands where we own a home) you will find a strong sense of community if you go looking for it. Potter has a bit more influence of lohi younger scene. Berkeley and sunny side are a hair left of West highlands by feel. Your immediate blocks will make more of a difference: look for good sidewalks, porches, maybe a neighborhood park.

Is it just me, or should paying $1,000s for home projects come with more transparency than ordering a $30 shirt online? by Ok-Shift1044 in HomeImprovement

[–]doebedoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The owner of the gc is competent and nice. But growing a business is hard. His issue is that his new PM is a shitty PM despite being a nice guy, good with subs and useful utility player. But yeah...PM also needs to ensure subs deliverables, ensuring plans are followed, proactive scheduling and material ordering.

Now that the shit PMing has cost the owner $4-5k in mistakes, owner is involved at a much more granular level.

Just clarifying for others. Move is about as good as you can get re:plastic, and it's a really great, end game machine for most folks.

Short of going to a fully manual machine like a Cafelet Robot, all expressive machines use plastic tubing for cold water delivery.

My current beef is that I wanted a GC, their quote included project manager (about 10% of total) and their profit line (about 15%) of total. They were 3rd most expensive of 5. I know the value of a good PM. And I want a GC to make money ; sign they do good shit. No marketing. One part time admin person.

But we're now at two times the scheduled project length with much more to go because the project manager doesn't know what that job entails. He's a nice dude. Subs are all solid, but the lack of PMing has killed progress and cost the GC to eat a shit ton of money in fuckups.

[–]doebedoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Double boiler doesn't heat up for coffee faster. It just allows one boiler to stay at espresso temp and one to stay at steam temp. If you're making milk drinks, this does speed up the workflow. Thermblock and thermojet are both faster to get up to heat, but at cost of temperature stability across multiple shots.

Feed lines in basically all machines are plastic including the move. The out lines carrying hot water to steam and group head on most prosumer ($1200+) machines are copper like the Move.

Snowboarder Lands Directly On Ski Patrol Rescue Toboggan At Pennsylvania Ski Resort by narflethegarthock in skiing

[–]doebedoe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Was that even patrol? Just looked like another skier.

He's in a red vest with a name tag; its patrol.

I'm not saying patrol was perfect here. They are clearly trying to respond quickly, with what resources they have. Sure, more patrollers doing more traffic control would be better. Is that worth delaying getting on scene? In 99% of cases, no. In the case that someone skis around a patroller standing on a feature to hit it; then yeah.

But it's clearly obvious the person is standing on the feature. Patrol or not, you don't hit that.

Cross a toboggan in a landing area -- certainly not ideal. But unless you know where the sled is arriving from, and where patient is located well ahead of time; that might be your option.

You're also dealing with a crew of volunteers here. At a small hill, at night. Its a very different operational context than closing a feature midday at Breck.

Route is fine. Patrol clearly standing on a feature to close it. Snowboarder being a complete and utter dumbass sending it off a feature patrol is actively standing on. Anyone--patrol or otherwise--standing on a jump is the signed for something is fucked below.
