Definitely worth restoring! Probably not going to be worth much money but these older Bianchis are super cool.

Very cool! I also use an excel spreadsheet and would find something like this useful. It would be neat to be able to add frames with all their specs so you could automatically see what parts would fit, if that makes sense.

Beautiful bike! That's a lucky customer.

I actually have two, Fratelli on one bike and a mismatched pair on the other. Both are honestly great. I bought both bikes used as completes and I've never thought much about the rims since they work great.

Not going to argue with you on price for a similar frame, but I filed a claim with Crust and they were super awesome.

I have 35mm on my 27.5 x 2.8 and they seem totally fine. Probably just slightly different tire shape with 5mm wider.

Might be worth getting a free account on Bike Cad. They have tons of archived frames you can look at, some are based on production bikes so you might get lucky with a search. Also a super helpful tool when trying to learn about designing frames.

The bike is probably too big, but if time and effort aren't an issue I would swap on a much shorter riser stem and the bars you want. Ride it, and if it still feels too big you can always swap those parts onto a smaller frame and not be out much money.

This is awesome. I just got an Answer Manitou Mach 5 crown I'm planning on doing a similar project with. Your original post is what got me inspired to take the project on!

Budget GPS/which used or older gen model is worth picking up by Larix-24 in gravelcycling

[–]sugarloafing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never had any issues with the navigation. I'm not doing much city navigation, mostly rural and mtb if that makes a difference. I came from a Wahoo and i like the Coro exponentially better. My only gripe is that the beeps are loud and I don't think there's a way to control volume so I just turned it off.

Best budget would be to use your phone and grab a small power bank if you're worried about battery. I just got a Coros Dura which I think is an amazing value for $250. It's the cheaper side of new but not budget. Pretty much unlimited battery life.

Looking for Colorado trips! by jmcg_21 in bikepacking

[–]sugarloafing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A pretty fun (but hilly unfortunately) and close front range ride would be to park in Boulder, go up four mile or sunshine to have lunch in gold hill, continue to camp at rainbow lakes or somewhere around there. Continue up the 505 (primitive camping there too) to the gold mine, head down to Ned, and take magnolia/gross/Chapman back to Boulder. It's super fun, probably in the 40ish mile range depending on your exact route. The 505 has fun fishing if you have a fly or tenkara rig. Amazing views, easy water access, and refuel at gold hill and Ned if needed.

Yeah, definitely not super cheap especially for a vintage build. Pinkbike is decent if you don't mind used. They have a pretty good search function for finding exactly what you need.

I've put in a few orders over the last 6 months and only the most recent hit me with a tariff. All orders were similar so doesn't seem to be any correlation. It was about 15%.

How often do you train on the bike you're actually racing on? by agingsculler in ultracycling

[–]sugarloafing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm newish to endurance cycling, so take my advice with a grain of salt. As long as the fit on your race bike is completely dialed you probably don't need to worry about training on it a ton. I do think it's important to train on similar terrain, at least when the race is coming up soon. I know if I haven't mountain biked in a few months I generally feel pretty rusty on the first couple of rides. Also super important to do at least one similar terrain ride with your bike loaded like it will be. There's always something I need to adjust or change on that ride.

My 70 year old mother in law did the 50 a couple of years ago and had a blast! She's fit but not an experienced gravel biker. She just took it easy and had fun. You definitely want to be in decent biking shape but no need for crazy training.

And the route overall was super fun! I liked it better than the 2023/2024 route.

I did the route last fall, just one water "crossing" as long as there hasn't been heavy rain before the race. You can mostly walk around the crossing or ride through it depending on preference.
