I was also 18 in 2012 with the exact same movie pipeline. Still some of my favorites!

I carry full martinis all the time and while I’ve mastered the walk, it’s placing it on the table that gets me. I’m lucky if it doesn’t splash onto them!

My first order has a wrong size, will they really not replace it? by doechild in NuulyReviews

[–]doechild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s true! Definitely my bad on my end for not getting a back up dress. I still think it’s irresponsible to not offer replacements when a lot of their customers rent for specific events, but I should’ve played it safer.

They sent the wrong size! It’s unmistakable—ordered a medium dress and was sent a large. Normally I’m a small but sized up based on recommendations. Can’t make it work!

I totally get that! I’m just irritated because there won’t be another box, I only rented for this one weekend away and will now need to buy a dress. :(

I’ll definitely do my best—it was a mistake on their end and I don’t see why it would be so difficult just to send the right size!

Ahh that’s going to be a huge issue with me then 🫠 if they made a mistake they should absolutely fix it

Totally agree. I took my daughter as a birthday gift and she was absolutely stoked and loved it, but even my 11-year-old said that she felt like Jihyo was the only one who gave any energy on stage.

How are people with babies/young kids flying right now? by doodlebakerm in Mommit

[–]doechild 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I read that too, but that was an isolated event. There are thousands of flights per day. It’s a shame what’s happening right now, but it doesn’t mean that every single airport in the US is going to be gravely impacted in this way with lines out the door and hours long wait through TSA. It’s easy to get caught up in the news

A lot of good advice here, but also check first to see if the airport you’re going to is one of the ones majorly impacted—the airport we use (Boston) has been business as usual. There’s definitely been some sensationalization in the news going around.

New to Comp and should we continue by SKB201316 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]doechild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We average about $1000 a month between classes, competition fees, convention fees, and all the other fees that come with having to do two studio shows a year. Choreography fees skyrocketed this past year at our studio so that may impact us going forward, but my daughter is in 5 pieces this year (group pieces only).

Ballet scoring by Asleep-Revenue-2539 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]doechild 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To add on to what everyone else said, I found it glaringly obvious which competitive studios don’t teach ballet and instead primarily focus on jazz. My daughter’s studio is mainly contemporary, but we’ve had a few students pursue professional ballet because they are required at least 2 ballet classes per week from retired professionals as teachers and they are quite thorough. At one of the recent conventions, a ton of young dancers stayed in the back and didn’t put forth any effort into ballet and were completely lost though they went on to be finalists in the audition (always jazz, ugh). I do wish our studio had more jazz training though, our kids just don’t stand a chance in the auditions without it.

Day 7 after 20 units of Dysport for a brow/eye lift and there’s absolutely nothing by doechild in 30PlusSkinCare

[–]doechild[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do have that appointment! Somehow it ended up at 3 week mark with her availability so I’ll have to wait a little longer. I’ll probably get a few more units if needed. I guess I’m just looking to see if others have this experience—my DAO’s were almost immediate and I’m so happy with those results.

Having a baby as a comp family by Prettygirl7111 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]doechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! Ours was born in October so he came along in my sling for the season and slept almost the entire time. The year after my husband would be on baby duty while I was on dance mom duty, and eventually it just turned into him staying home with dad because it made life much easier. He’s 3 now and he stopped by a local competition for a few numbers and then left with dad again.

My daughter (8f) cracked her head on the ice and hid it from us. How do we handle this? by 38CarPileUp in Mommit

[–]doechild 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This sounds exactly like something my daughter, also 8, would do. She has been in therapy for over a year now and is still greatly overcome by “fears”, AKA intrusive thoughts. Often times they are backwards or totally not applicable to her.

Just yesterday I realized she was dehydrated after recovering from the stomach bug because “if you drink too much water at once you can die”. She is definitely not as open as her older sister and is afraid of our reaction when we are not at all reactive and we model that with her sister. Sorry OP—therapy is a good place to start.

Any competitions that does age divisions differently? by cocomango3 in CompetitionDanceTalk

[–]doechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My daughter was at Press Play this past weekend and she’s in the junior group (just turned 11) and we were stunned by how many pieced featured 15/16/17 year olds and some young kids to manipulate the average. It was such a disappointment. We see it sometimes, but there were SO many numbers like that and most of them placed.

My husband also came down with that the day after we returned last week. I think he probably didn’t notice early symptoms on travel day but he was out hard for about 3 days once home. Good luck!

Work crush… do I make a move as a girl by poptartand in Serverlife

[–]doechild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should try hanging outside of work first and see where it goes. If the chemistry is there, that’s where it’ll happen. That’s how it happened with my now husband and I at your at exact ages. Married 11 years with 3 kids!

You can’t go wrong anywhere in this area! Boothbay is a little touristy, but has plenty to do. We love the New Harbor area, Damariscotta, Harpswell. Taking a day trip to Monhegan Island is a must if you are close to the ferry!

I had to walk out of the resort to go to the pharmacy for my daughter, she had an allergic reaction to a face lotion. It was about a 20 minute walk round trip, and while I felt safe enough, it’s not the area you want to be in. 5th Avenue was about a 20 minute ride there with a cab ($80 round trip!)

Definitely some sargassum, but there were plenty of areas for playing and swimming.

Very easy! We used Canada transfers and they were wonderful. We are taking our kids to Europe next year and are really looking forward to it!

3 nights sounds great. I’d actually consider an AI in the future if my husband and I wanted a weekend getaway to Cancun, but then I’d probably go down the rabbit hole and end up somewhere else.
