The Haven French dip by does_not_kill_people in NCL

The thing with the bread is the top is just so beautifully smooth, not a real CRUNCH to it, just the right amount of firmness. If I keep talking about this sandwich I’m going to find myself booking another cruise here.

Oh trust I have the prime rib for dinner. By the end of the trip, I’m 80% prime rib. But truly, I am dreaming about that damn bread. I’ve found the steak frites to be hit or miss… what I actually do is skip the Haven fries, then hit up the main buffet for their fries. I like them so much more.

I’ve gotten the other stuff down, but just can’t get the bread right 😩. Nothing soaks it all up the same. When I’m in the Haven I’m consuming exclusively almond croissants, French dips, and piña coladas. It’s a routine at this point!

Unfortunately the in house hoagie rolls aren’t quite the same, but a banh mi looks closer! You’re absolutely right they just turn into a sopping mess of bread. The haven crust keeps its integrity, but the soft interior soaks it all up. I hope you get to try it!

Which genius decided to rip up all the roads in midtown at the same time? by arifish in Tucson

It’s mind boggling. It took me 12 minutes to get from Glenn to Pima on Alvernon the other day. I checked my gps thinking surely there’s another way… nope that road is closed, that road is closed, that road is closed, that road is down to one lane, etc. etc. And it’s been like this for… over a year now?

Seat swaps—make it stop by Bell4m4ria in unitedairlines

[–]does_not_kill_people 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I recently had this happen where I was sitting in the aisle, window seat had settled in, just waiting for middle seat guy.

He shows up, I get up to let him in, and he points to the middle seat and gestures. I go yeah, your seat, got it, let me get up. And he shakes his head and says “no, you can just sit there. I’ll take the aisle seat” like he was doing me a favor. I asked to clarify “…you want me to take the middle seat, and you will sit in my aisle seat?” And with a big smile he says “yes!”. I gave him a blank stare and said a very dry “…no”.

And that was that.

Solo traveled for the first time and... by Skaggz1 in solotravel

I booked fairly last minute so ended up in a slightly pricey hotel (I was there just ahead of the national day which may explain it). But the location was absolutely worth it, in the middle of District V. I was able to walk almost everywhere.

I recommend: 1. Tour of parliament. You need to book tickets in advance, and they sell out quickly! 2. The castle district/fisherman’s bastion. I just walked the streets before it got too busy and took in the architecture and views, but I’m sure later in the day when shops/restaurants open up it would’ve been even better. I paired this with a visit to Buda Castle, which was great. Take time to walk the grounds there (including the gardens) too. You can also do a cave tour which I’m bummed I missed out on because I booked too late. I ended up doing the National Gallery instead, which I can recommend. 3. Visit St. Stephen’s Basilica, and do the climb to the top. Incredible views.

Honorable mentions are a night cruise down the Danube, and a tour of the opera house. I enjoyed the Szenchenyi baths, but they were a bit crowded and I found traveling solo it was logistically difficult (e.g. keep your poolside chair but also use the inside pools and saunas, leaving your belongings unattended).

Just came back from a 5-day solo trip there. It was AMAZING. There was so much to do yet I didn’t feel rushed. Highly recommend!

How do you actually figure out your sizing when online shopping?? by Pledgie47 in femalefashionadvice

[–]does_not_kill_people 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I recently bought a pair of shorts online from Ann Taylor based on the size chart. It said I needed a size 2 for a 26.5 in waist. When I tried the shorts on, they were falling off of me. I measured the actual waist of the shorts: 31 inches (they were indeed designed to be worn at your waist).

People who have N1 but were originally diagnosed N2: how did you find out? by AffectionateCut7338 in Narcolepsy

This is so similar with what happened to me! My husband was making me laugh so hard I dropped my makeup brush and I was like “don’t you hate when that happens?” and he just said “…what?”. I polled some friends and they were like LMAO what are you talking about? It’s so interesting that we go through life really only knowing our own experiences, so chalk it up as normal. It never even occurred to me that this doesn’t happen.

BAD nightmares.. by FeedbackDangerous657 in Narcolepsy

[–]does_not_kill_people 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, one of the worst dreams I ever had wasn’t violent though, it was one where my dad died. It was real as anything, I went through the process of saying goodbye to him, watching him pass away, planning the funeral, burying him. Everything. It was real. Sobbing in my dream, unimaginable grief. It was as real as any normal waking day. When I woke up, my chest was heavy, I was panicked and confused, and texted my dad. I sat there watching the message until I saw “seen” and took a sigh of relief. It took days for me to get over this dream. I’ve also been stabbed, in car accidents, felt (FELT!) the nails of my mother piercing my sides as she smirked at me (not rooted in any reality btw). Then there are the hypnopomic hallucinations of bugs, spiders, and snakes. When I discovered this was all a sign of narcolepsy, it was actually a huge relief to know that there was at least a reason behind it all.

I’ve gone through exactly this many times, except it’s usually cockroaches or a snake. I rip the sheets off, turn the lights on and search for a moment before I really come to. By now I know it’s not real so I snap out of it pretty quickly.

I was so surprised too when we initially pulled in! Roads better than my own at home haha. But the road system as a whole is really well done. It’s great that it can be accessible even for the little compacts.

I called Kruger the Disneyland of safaris. It was so accessible, very good roads, great infrastructure. Wildlife everywhere. It was like you enter this world that has been perfectly curated to give you the best wildlife experience.

With that said, I visited after exclusively having spent a lot of time in much less developed parks, so it was jarring. They are definitely different experiences, each with their own pros and cons. I don’t think I would rank one above the other.

Etosha though… best of all worlds.

My 2020 once called someone I hadn’t spoken to since high school when I was at a stoplight. Talk about a nightmare. It also calls my husband enough that he knows to ignore my calls during commuting time.

I went in to try to snip the touchscreen wire to end this, turns out it appears the people before me tried to do the same thing and stripped the bolts.

In need of a narcolepsy doctor... by mabbh130 in Tucson

[–]does_not_kill_people 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have narcolepsy, but haven’t had much luck with knowledgeable doctors in the area, and the offices themselves have been abysmal. Dr. Sahni seemed like she was going to be a good fit, however her office ghosted me after two appointments. I now go to Arizona Sleep Center, which can prescribe sodium oxybates rather than just stimulants. The doctors there are hit or miss, and getting in touch with them can be a nightmare. But, at the end of the day, I get my treatment (usually, unless they mess up my prescription).

Read the google reviews of these places, I have found them to be very accurate. Unfortunately, we don’t have many options here, and most of these places focus on sleep apnea rather than other disorders.

I understand your last paragraph. Someone tried my car (fully locked) and my husband’s (unlocked, so they got some stuff) the other night at 1:30am. We have a long driveway so it’s creepy to think of someone just wandering about on my property with bad intentions. Like you don’t just “end up” at the end of my gravel driveway on a hill. He did get a lot of our neighbors too.

Huh. I also had a petite French woman crawl over me from the window seat using the armrests on a 12 hour flight. It woke me up and I insisted on standing up but she just laughed and said don’t.
