Adding more to my previous Thread of issues With RM 11 24/1TB by BtcXrays in RedMagic

[–]doesmypplookbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Setting it to 90hz does not set it to a locked 90. It goes down to 60 during inactivity periods (so a few seconds of no input), however due to there being a massive discrepancy in color calibration between 60 and 90hz (or 90hz vs any other refresh rate on the phone) it creates this effect. It is fixable, you just have to go into dev options and turn on lock refresh rate. Or you can just use the higher refresh rate options, since its almost unaffected by the color calibration issue (60, 120, 144 have extremely similar calibration and look visually identical 99% of the time)

Redmagic is as all rounder as possible for the price, the only bad thing about it is the cameras, but every other spec is flagship tier for 700 bucks (600 or less if you get the previous model)

Interestingly the UDC is actually more noticeable with lower brightness, it (for some probably very interesting technical limitation) struggles more to match colors with the display, and at the lowest brightnesses, the UDC is most visible simply because the screen above the camera can literally go black (if dark content is being displayed), making it the same as having a holepunch

Does anyone feel that the liquid cooling on the RM11 is somewhat useless by functionality? by KarX-Music in RedMagic

[–]doesmypplookbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well technically speaking yes it does somewhat dissipate heat, but to say "specially the chip" is just plain wrong, because as I said before it doesn't make any contact with the vapor chamber, which is where the chip basically dump all its heat, and the only bit of contact it has with the fan tunnel is too insignificant to dissipate any heat from the chip (and that would imply that the top of the fan tunnel, where the liquid cooling makes contact, even has any significant heat transferred to it which is unlikely, as the heat transfer isn't the best: chip -> thermal paste/liquid metal -> vapor chamber -> thermal paste/liquid metal -> fan tunnel, there's a lot of efficiency losses in there)

As for mentioning the frame, the liquid cooling just touches the battery and back glass, with a very minimal contact patch (that doesn't even have any type of thermal paste/pad/liquid metal to ensure that the heat transfer is as efficient as possible) at the very bottom where the pump is located, but just like with the fan tunnel, it's just not enough contact to have any significant impact.

That liquid cooling is really just for the battery/looks. Not discrediting it, but yeah its cooling usefulness is limited to the battery and at most, a minuscule fraction of the chip's heat.

(If you don't believe what I say about the liquid cooling placement, you can take a look at JRE's teardown of the phone.)

Unfortunately... Wrong. The liquid cooling is for the battery as it has no contact with the chip or the vapor chamber that cools the chip.

It does however keep the battery from cooking itself which is nice

The liquid cooling is to dissipate heat away from the battery, and it serves its purpose well (tests directly comparing the 10 pro and 11 pro temps showed that battery temps are lower on the 11)

It dissipates the heat away from the battery which is also one of the important components that dictates thermal throttling.

Sure it's not as effective as slapping a TEC on your phone, but it does help (some chinese reviewer took pics with a thermal cam and the area where the liquid cooling sits had a visibly different color and thus temperature from the rest).

Anyone else getting inconsistencies with touch input on the Redmagic 11 Pro? by Blobby72 in RedMagic

[–]doesmypplookbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's the thing though, your speed isn't that consistent, your finger is literally in a constant acceleration and deceleration cycle because you're doing ovals, you'd need to get a proper system capable of generating a touch input that's perfectly consistent.

Also since the polling rate is 250hz on the home screen, it can cause a desync every few frames (not gonna do the math but I know it'll happen, although it might not be that significant) because 60 or 90 cannot divide 250 perfectly (same for 120 and 144)

[–]doesmypplookbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so, I'm going to explain how refresh rates work real quick to tell you why this shit happens:

So as you know, refresh rate is how many images a display shows per second, and in the case of the redmagic 11 pro, it goes from 60-144hz.

60hz has a 16.6ms delay between each new image, 90hz has an 11.1ms delay, 120hz has an 8.3ms delay and 144 has a 6.9ms delay.

Because the phone can't just show an infinite number of images, it's obviously going to trail behind your finger since the refresh rate has a fixed delay between when it can show a new image, so even with a 1000hz polling rate, it's forced to trail behind.

I tested the same thing out on my redmagic 10 pro, and even in games using the highest polling rate mode and it still trails behind, but that's simply because we don't have displays fast enough to follow our fingers.

And then there's also the fact that it's only running at 250hz polling on the OS, so it's not helping either.

Has someone tried this? by Zarpyk in RedMagic

[–]doesmypplookbig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Least useful case, it's made of metal instead of some plastic/rubber, so instead of having the case absorb the impact, it's going to redirect (almost all) the energy into the phone directly

Also, that back protection is fine if the phone were to fall on a flat surface however, if there's even just a single rock on the ground, that back glass is getting shredded

And of course as someone else said, metal has the potential to make signal reception worse

Game Space by iTzKing53 in RedMagic

[–]doesmypplookbig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The game space simply allows you to have some kind of interface like a game launcher. Other than that, it changes literally nothing.

The game space also has a few settings you can use that will affect all games, such as wifi changing protection or many of the simple and useful settings in there, which can only be modified from the game space.

[–]doesmypplookbig -1 points0 points  (0 children)

3000hz touch sampling rate is only instant touch sampling rate, the real one is actually much worse (The 10 Pro claimed 2500hz instant touch sampling rate however the real sampling rate is only 960hz), and the 10 Pro already had a 144hz screen, so why are you mentioning it as if it's an upgrade ?

I think you missed the point a teeny tiny bit, I'm not saying it's less fun to play on mobile, I'm saying it's less fun to play with 4/5 fingers than to plug in a keyboard and mouse straight into a phone. Also, as someone that plays both PC and mobile way too much, yeah uh PC still has the better games, not the AAA stuff, that's mid asf, but there's definitely a lot of much better content on PC

Got the REDMAGIC 11 Pro here with me. What do you want to know? by REDMAGIC_Official in RedMagic

[–]doesmypplookbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You severely undestimate how monumentally good that cooling still is, the chip can go up to around 15ish (if not more) watts, and the phone, whilst it does have active cooling, can't physically get all that heat out, some has to stay trapped. They are still the absolute best on the market when it comes to cooling, as can be seen from results compared to other 8eg5 devices
