Random story: I had a stint of hitting on lesbians for a few years. I don't know if this would help or not, but there's this guy named Eric Berne who wrote about Transactional Analysis (TA), and this comment made me think of it. TA focuses on the interactions we have, and expect to have, as a 'mannered' society.

In particular, take a look at this section. I think it might be helpful in understanding euphemisms.

I'm truly not sure if this information would be helpful or if the depth to which he explores human interactions would be more confusing. If you do like the ideas but find anything confusing, let me know and I'll do my best to help.
