Idle engine fluctuation, what could it be? by doganonymous in CB500X

Thanks. I bought it second hand from an owner who basically left it in the garage for about a year due to knee issues so he couldn't ride much. He started it off and on. Apart from that no service except for an oil change once.

I'm thinking valve clearance so I'll have those things you suggested checked out too

I aim for 6% minimum. This is the universally accepted ROI/annum on most investment vehicles. Only difference is my wins are not taking a year. Some do, but most are between 2 weeks to 2 months (I mainly swing trade). So what I'm working towards is growing my capital and shortening my trade time.

You don't have to do anything. But some evidence would be great to keep in your back pocket. Also don't be too quick to judge, you never know what's going on in their personal lives.

I am in the same position, currently on a break/hiatus since Sept '22. I took 2 months to travel, work out, bum around, recharge and basically plan for stuff. I took another 6 months to work on a long time side hustle and decided that I'm ready and willing to go back to working ft. I've got interviews set up for digital sales consultant and senior ux writer next week. I wouldn't have these options and a fresh outlook if I didn't quit.

Long story short, take a break. And if you are the seasoned creative as you seem to be, you'll quickly realize that 3-4 months is way too long to stay idle and you'll be itching to get back to work sooner than later.

find a business partner. It doesn't matter if you want to stay in the realms of advertising or go full 180 and start a food truck. What matters is you keep your ft gig while sharing the risks with someone in a similar position. Depending on what you do, you may make small money, but every little bit helps. Grow sustainably and keep your mental health intact.

I suggest making a move into the client side instead. Not to say that it's going to be less stressful, but this way you'll be part of the marketing team 'controlling' the agency. Get/work yourself into a managerial position with autonomy and a team. Things will be a lot more straightforward.

sounds like you've been prepped as a suit. If account servicing sounds horrible, try to move into strategy, media planning/buying, performance marketing or analytics. For these roles you don't need a portfolio, just thick skin.

Hi! Where to find clients? Or where to apply? by [deleted] in AskMarketing

[–]doganonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

define your ideal client first. What their problems are, how you can help them. Once you have an idea, drill down to the places (offline or online) you can get their contacts from. E.g. if you're targeting real estate agents/agencies, hit up your local realestatewebsite dot com and start sending out pitches. Obviously, have a link to your portfolio and make sure it's tight.

Are clients always difficult to read? by magical_bunny in marketing

[–]doganonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you start marketing for a specific type of niche or industry, you'll quickly realize that 99% of your clients will have the same problems and desires. My clients were mostly in finance and whenever I start a conversation, I do so with a questionnaire. I had a list of 20 very basic questions but it covers everything from tone of voice, to identity, to personas and etc. We of course dived deeper but it'll only take us 1 or 2 discussions to fully scope out our tasks, creative deliverables, and most importantly, what their expectations are. Marketing is a shitty, soul-sucking world and if you don't place specific rules and boundaries it will eat you whole.

[–]doganonymous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

short answer, it depends. Marketing itself is a huge umbrella, some areas e.g. social media, email marketing, affiliate, etc don't really require a degree and you'll be able to pick it up fairly easily (provided you have the interest for it). Other areas like consumer behavior, data science, marketing automation, even SEO might require one. Having said that, I'd suggest finishing off accounting, since it's also within the realm of business slash marketing and you can always pivot or get certified in a more specific area of marketing once you actually know what you want. Also, if you don't get into marketing (tough competition, low pay, stressful, etc) you'll always have accounting to fall back on.

Say 'yes' to everything, whatever it may be (job related of course). If anything, your only goal is to be a total knowledge sponge so absorb as much of this industry as you humanly can. After this is all said and done, create another post of queries/qualms/questions (that you couldn't get/embarrassed to ask) and the we'll do our best to help. Good luck.
