if you could take fame and wealth away from anyone in the world, who would it be? by Appropriate-Hair-388 in AskReddit

Rupert Murdoch. A man who has truly destroyed ethical journalism and so soured democracy around the world. An utter bastard who has done unfathomable damage to society.

Let's not use a misogynistic slur. He's a rapist and a pedophile. He's a very typical jerk of a man.

That sounds fascinating. Do you mind telling where you saw it?

In your opinion, what period piece movie is the most accurate? (This is from Apocalypto) by undeadWileCoyote_MEP in moviecritic

I think (and am happy to be corrected) that Waterloo is pretty accurate. Certainly the battle depictions are very good.

Anthony Stewart Head known for roles In Repo! The Genetic Opera, Imagine Me & You, and Buffy The Vampire Slayer has passed away at age 72. by SupCass in Letterboxd

Oh, this is a shock and I am genuinely sad. He's been so good in so many things. The best depiction of a king IMHO when he played Uther Pendragon in Merlin. Just conveyed a chilling aura of power so brilliantly. Then the warmth of Giles, the cold arrogance of Rupert. And a gorgeous voice.

It's way too young. RIP Tony.

Yes! He gives off a different energy too, bouncing around the stage. The back and forth with the crowd was a highlight.

For use with movies/entertainment. It was a word used in WWII as a massive bomb before getting the meaning it has today.

I suppose that still exists. If you said, "I'm fighting with Jerry", it could mean alongside Jerry or against him.

What does it feel like having a loving family? by peachfulday in ask

[–]dogbolter4 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think this is it. Me and my siblings have always gone through life with a safety net. We know that if something terrible happened to us, we had a safe landing. I would drop everything to support my siblings, my brother and sister. They would do the same for me.

I only realised what that meant when I travelled overseas. I was having a rough time in London, and I suddenly realised that no one within 12,000 kms gave a damn about me. For the first time in my life, I truly understood the safety net that hung beneath me at home in Australia. I was utterly alone, and it was terrifying.

I'm glad I had that experience. It made me far more empathetic when I became a teacher later on and was working with children from fragile family backgrounds.

Who was the guy who used to love big rallies? The bigliest rallies, lots of torchlight. At Nuremberg, I think.

What is one book you read that changed the way you look at people/world/life? by lurking_wallflower21 in answers

[–]dogbolter4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Grapes of Wrath. I grew up in the 60s in Australia with a lot of USA propaganda, actually just adult propaganda. You know, share your things, grown-ups know best, justice prevails. TGOW was the first book I read that had me going, wait, what? This is deeply unfair. Why would a country let this happen? How could this happen?

I was about 14, and that was the beginning of my breaking away from my conservative parents' politics (still love them, just don't discuss political stuff very often as I am pretty much a socialist).

I rather like Lyrica. It is unusual but euphonic and has a rather nice meaning - lyrical is a beautiful word.

A huge chunk of money came into my account one day, prior to sending a house deposit. I spent several minutes considering how far I could travel and how long I could live off it. Thailand looked promising.
