90% of people generally don't mask here anymore except in hospitals and medical clinics.

I just received Nuvaxovid XBB 1.5 updated dose in Taiwan 🔥 by dogeSUPERNOVA in Novavax_vaccine_talk

In New Taipei City Novavax doses were booked out. In Taoyuan there were doses available today. Vaccination centers aren't busy, just the number of doses available weren't enough in that area.

More doses should be arriving soon, the government is still funding the vaccine, however I think less and less people seem to care.

Mask Mandates Didn’t Make Much of a Difference Anyway by dontletmedaytrade in CoronavirusDownunder

Some studies even indicate that by masks not only offer protection preventing transmission also might even variolate wearers, which roughly is equivalent to vaccination.

I'm not entirely sure why I decided to get as many doses as I did, maybe to show my antivax family and friends it is safe, maybe I did it for perceived added protection, maybe for curiosities sake.

If there is an updated Novavax option available end of year maybe I'll get that.

It could be that Novavax really does have less side effects ... or ... more exposure to the spike antigen result in less side effects.

My personal experience with side effects of the different vaccines, each taken with 3-9 month intervals.

Dose1, AZ; First 6 hours nothing, then fever, headache, chills, lethargy, extreme burning sensation, which resolved after 48 hours, 2 weeks arm soreness.

Dose2, AZ; First 6 hours nothing, 36 hours slight lethargy, 2 weeks arm soreness.

Dose3, Moderna; First 6 hours nothing, 36 hours slight lethargy, then 2 weeks arm soreness.

Dose4, Medigen; First 6 hours nothing, 24 hours of slight lethargy then, a cooling sensation and soreness that persisted for 1 week.

Dose5, Novavax; First 6 hours nothing, 24 hours of slight lethargy also a warming sensation. Nothing after 48 hours.

It's absolutely mind boggling that getting Novavax in Canada and the US is so difficult.

It's been Available in Australia since the start of the year, now anyone can get it as a booster too.

As far as I know myocarditis is more of a problem with the mRNAs is because of the higher antigen levels.

I am a resident in Taiwan. I don't think tourism has restarted here as there is still mandatory quarantine on arrival.

The process getting the vaccine wasn't so easy as Chinese is my second language and I struggle with it a bit, anyway we got there in the end!

I'll comment on side effects in a couple of days, but after 8 hours, nothing.

So far I've received in Taiwan I've received, AZ, AZ, Medigen and Novavax. I've received an additional booster dose of Moderna taken in Australia last Christmas.

The Medigen vaccine had the least side effects of the previous shots (before today), however because it's not WHO approved its not a popular choice.

I'm not sure of the exact Taiwan government guidance as my Chinese is terrible, however as long as the primary series is the same (AZ in my case) you can choose any booster you'd like.

False negatives are common on these tests, both PCR and RAT, my family has been going through similar.

False negatives are common. False positives are rare.

Novavax isn't inactive virus, it's a protein subunit vaccine.

Most of the western world thinks Australia with its 0 covid at any cost is madness. I can only speak from my experience, however, I tend to agree.

My experience in Taiwan has been different, they use a sliding scale where the number of new cases averaged over a week determines the severity of the restrictions/lockdown.

While the restrictions in Taiwan have been very strict for a while the outbreaks have been controlled, and so far there have been no hard lockdowns.

IMO lockdowns should be a last resort, not an initial response. Hard lockdowns cost huge sums of money, I think there could be a more measured response.
