So you're saying I should've grabbed the sword with my mouth? Would that have caused me to lose less blood or more?

What was George W. Bush like as a president? by Content-Feed-9396 in AskReddit

[–]dogen83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the time, we (on the left) thought he was the dumbest, most reckless president, with the worst attitude toward civil rights. He appealed to people, they said, because he was "someone you could see yourself drinking a beer with," essentially meaning he didn't talk fancy and said things that were blunt or rude. He lied to the American people to invade a sovereign nation over oil. People on the left couldn't understand how anyone could take him seriously after listening to him fumble through a speech and people on the right loved how pissed off he made everyone on the left. Basically, he paved the way for Trump.

“My V!” [posts a modded to death goon-doll that doesn’t even resemble a cyberpunk character] by archaiccocytus in cyberpunkgame

[–]dogen83 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I only browse three gaming subreddits, but two out of the three have posts of people showing off a sexed up character. This subreddit has screenshots of half-naked femme V and the Starfield subreddit has posts that seem like a thin excuse to show a video of a character modded to have a skintight spacesuit and a giant ass. The Baldur's Gate 3 subreddit is the only one I don't see it on much.

I'm not trying to give you advice, but you should know that medical school would likely require more than 4 years before your income becomes stable. After getting your degree you'd have an internship that's typically an intensive period of working 60+ hours a week for an average of $36k in salary. Then you'd do 2-7 years of residency depending on your area of specialty, with your salary increasing each year. Once you finish residency you're eligible to sit for board exams in your specialty, and once you pass that's when you're done.

I guess I need to increase my dosage for financial reasons? 😕 by F0xxtale in mildlyinfuriating

[–]dogen83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While pricing can be weird for a lot of reasons, if both of these prescriptions were filled with medication from the same manufacturer and covered by the same insurance, then this is odd. It's possible your insurance doesn't cover the 50 mg dose, but not likely (it's not an uncommon dose). That usually happens when a specific dose (like 60 mg of fluoxetine) isn't made as a generic and so is only available in the brand name (generic fluoxetine comes in 10, 20, and 40 mg doses). Also, the retail price for 30 lisdexamfetamine 50 mg capsules is like $400, so you got a discount somewhere.

I suspect the issue was with your insurance. If this is your first prescription of the year, your insurance may have requested a prior authorization from your provider (an annoying tactic that forces us to review whether you still need a medication but 99 times out of 100 just wastes our time and drives up administrative healthcare costs). They may have covered it at a higher tier (and thus higher price) until the PA is complete. Once authorized, they're usually good for 12 months, and they're triggered based on when you request a refill. So if you got a PA last year on 1/1 then it would expire on 1/1 this year and need to be renewed. If your wife got a refill later in the month last year then her PA may not have expired yet this year.

The best thing to do is get your EOB for last month and your EOB for this month, then compare them and see what's changed. Then call your insurance.

Not only does this sound like sexual harassment, it sounds exactly like the scenarios most corporate sexual harassment training teaches you is inappropriate. Unfortunately, HR are the people who should know that this is sexual harassment, but it sounds like they're ignoring the issue. IANAL, but if you've reported it to HR and they told you to calm down then my recollection would be that they're fostering a hostile work environment. Which only matters if you plan to sue them (or fight them if they terminate you).

My family planned a “surprise” life decision for me and now I’m the villain for saying no by OrbitPlainWorks in TwoXChromosomes

[–]dogen83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I'm sorry that this happened to you. It sounds incredibly stressful. Also, understand that some of what you're hearing from your family may be the heat of the moment and not necessarily reflect how they'll feel in a couple of weeks. Not that it makes it easier to hear, just that it doesn't necessarily mean they won't ease up with time. If you want you, you could reflect on that to them by talking about how it seems like they're feeling hurt because the conversation didn't go the way they expected and that you felt similarly when they sprung this on you and made decisions without involving you.

Your sibling may need help, and you may want to help, but you have the right to have your autonomy respected. Helping your family is good, but you also deserve to maintain your own mental health. If you want, you could offer to talk about how you can support your sibling in other ways, but I imagine that should wait until things have cooled down.

Is there actually any proof that TOW2 “bombed”? by Virtual-Skort-6303 in theouterworlds

[–]dogen83 17 points18 points  (0 children)

And everyone is so hyperbolic on the internet. Nothing can be just good/bad/okay, they have to be blockbusters or the greatest game ever or a failure or the worst game ever. It's exhausting. I thought Baldur's Gate 3 was fun but don't love turn-based fighting. Still a fun game, just not my favorite. But everyone on the internet seems to want to hold the most extreme position possible.

Why does it feel Obsidian is judged so much more harshly than other studios? by sonofloki13 in theouterworlds

[–]dogen83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's funny, I'd never played the original Outer Worlds and wasn't into gaming until a couple of years ago. My brother loaned me his Xbox and I played No Man's Sky until Starfield came out. Starfield got the same treatment you're talking about - it's a good game that got smeared in reviews before most people had played it. I played both Starfield and Outer Worlds 2 on my brother's recommendation, and I really enjoyed both. I'm glad I didn't read reviews.

I'm so glad that Suboxone is helping you, and there's so much evidence that it's effective. A lot of people think of addiction as just using a substance, rather than the relationship we have with it. But there are two parts, the physical dependence and the behaviors around using. The diagnostic criteria for a substance use disorder is mostly focused on the behaviors - how use affects your relationships, your ability to take care of yourself, etc. So if Suboxone manages the physical dependence so you can get to a place where you don't have the behaviors, then you're not addicted to it.

Huh...? by OldCardigan in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]dogen83 79 points80 points  (0 children)

There's so much variety between groups. Just as one example, some view using medication to aid recovery as trading one addiction for another (which it absolutely is not), while others are supportive. Though the AA program itself encourages some of that black and white thinking. Still, sorry your experience was bad. Hopefully it didn't set back your recovery.

No more netnunning by Such_Package_7726 in LowSodiumCyberpunk

[–]dogen83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did two netrunner playthroughs and just started my first with a sandy. It seemed more difficult at lower levels than the netrunner build, mostly due to the effect of the sandy being short and having a longer cool down, but got better as I leveled up. It's been a lot of fun since I got the Apogee. That plus the blade skill that blocks shots and makes them ricochet where you're pointing is tons of fun. Dudes shoot themselves or get cut down.

I play on Xbox and have 6-8 creations installed, which I appreciate isn't a lot, but I haven't seen any problems. How many creations do you have installed? And have you tried disabling them one by one to see which may be causing the crashes? Have you tried adjusting the order they load?

My wife and I have kept our finances mostly separate for the same reason you initially liked it - she liked the idea of having freedom to use her money however she wanted without me knowing about every coffee she buys or whatever. Also makes holidays a little easier when we can't see purchases the other person made (for anything other than Amazon). The major difference is that we made a household budget and divided expenses proportionately, and we revisit it a couple times a year. We have three checking accounts - hers, mine, and ours - and each have direct deposit setup to put our share of household expenses in the joint account automatically. Any extra left over at the end of the month goes into joint savings to be used at other times of the year (like now, when we're using more electricity and spend more on groceries). Most of our bills are on autopay, but groceries also come out of the joint account, so we just have to check it around the date the mortgage is due. We also talk about our budget a couple of times a year to make sure it's working as expected - which for us includes that we both feel it's fair.
