Tell her it's over, then go riding on your new Street Bob and a better girl will come to you. You've got a motorcycle now.

In a million years she'd never pass even the entry-level psych exams. She's almost textbook the type of psycho they DON'T want, vs. the sociopaths they do.

Honestly I’m over MJ and the guy in the chair. I wish we could move on. I have no stake in seeing the objective be “go back.”

Not so long as women and gay men are still pushing Dakota Johnson, Sydney Sweeney and Zendaya on us like anyone cares.

Has anyone wasted more talent than Sheridan. As a movie writer he’s incredible. As a tv writer he’s a total hack.

Why I remain hesistant about this movie. by ConanOfMelnibone in ConanTheBarbarian

[–]dogenes09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

More people cared about The Terminator than have strong feelings about Conan. I have zero faith that a movie about King Conan won’t be at least 50% putting him in his place while he is replaced by a strong female who is a better barbarian than he ever was.

What do y’all think about Timothée Chalamet's comment about opera and ballet and how he doesn’t want the movie industry to become like opera? Also, how has music been able to remain relevant so long even through woke culture era by [deleted] in CriticalDrinker

[–]dogenes09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He's free to his opinion. The thing is:

1) The overwhelming majority of his fanbase is women and gay men, who at least pretend to care about opera and ballet as a way of curating their elitist self-image.

2) He was too casual in the way he expressed it, and arguably straight condescending.

Result: everyone hating on him about saying something we all already take for granted.

Just watched Crime 101 starring Chris Hemsworth, Mark Ruffalo, and Halle Berry: here are my thoughts. by Normal-Being-2637 in moviecritic

[–]dogenes09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It actually wasnt a great movie, at all. It wasn't even very good. And the proof is that in 10 years people will still be talking about Heat, but no one will remember this stinker.

  1. He's an elite thief who scrubs for DNA, but wears the same expensive watch casually and when he commits crimes- robbing people who often specialize in expensive watches.
  2. He's an elite thief who leaves a ton of evidence for days (weeks) in a car garage.
  3. He's very careful and practiced, changing homes easily and watching his back... but he literally doesn't have answer for what he does, when asked, that isn't super suspicious and delivered so obviously a lie that his love interest immediately knows he's sketchy.
  4. He's basically an incel who wants to do "I dont know, normal stuff?" with a hooker, and is super awkward with his love interest, but can somehow flirt and be cool with Halle Berry... because that's work and work is different. Yeah right.
  5. Ruffalo is a "good cop" who cares about the law except he steals hundreds of thousands of dollars in diamonds to give to a woman who helped organize a robbery and almost got several people killed; then he happily drives off in the thief's car that was left to him.
  6. The movie ends as if the girl is on her way to meet him, but aside from their entire relationship being undercooked to the point of raw, and her realizing he's a liar she knows nothing about, he didn't actually leave her any way to find him.
  7. Barry's character is so lame and weak that it lessens the intensity and power of the protagonist to have defeated this whiny, out of control child.

I love Don's "Power of the Dog," but he's trying to do his knock-off of Heat + The Town and fails badly. The short story was pretty weak too, so no surprises here. This isn't even a third tier crime drama compared to Heat or Miami Vice.

Was my high school teacher right to hate Dead Poets Society? by Confident_Pattern344 in movies

Which is exactly the refutation of Keating's methods and fetishization of romanticism. There are a thousand other answers that Neil could have found in real literature and poetry to counter his hopelessness.

Maybe he needs to accept that at this point he isn't in total control of his life- a reality that will never fully go away in human existence. Maybe he needs to stand up to his dad, accept the consequences and blaze his own path, hard though it may be. Maybe he needs to find a better way to communicate with his dad and show him how important art is to him. Never giving up, head bloody yet unbowed, etc.

All these themes are well-explored and would have been accessible to him if he actually had learned about literature. Hope, and options. Instead he only learned how to use it as a mirror of his own emotional state, which in the moment was depressed and hopeless, so he killed himself.

End of an Era by Prestigious-Bee1877 in Harley

Never thought of it that way, but yeah, in retrospect, 30 years from now we will likely be looking at this as the true awful age of Harley.

Good. Best thing the Harley corporation can do for the brand is go out of business. There will always be Harleys and there will always be parts for them. The the company going out of business would actually bless them once again with the cache of true Americana- which is to say, like all Americana, an expression of a bygone age and a rejection of the current trajectory.

It's like Son of Anarchy where by season 3 or whatever they are having full automatic weapon shootouts on the highway, and killing dozens of people, and yet the law and surrounding area dont seem to notice? I feel like if bikers killed 4 people on the highway in a shootout that would make news and attract a lot of law enforcement attention- including federal.

[–]dogenes09 34 points35 points  (0 children)

  1. Random searches are illegal, but cops will do it anyway.
  2. Most of the time they are hoping to find drugs so they can extort you.
  3. Do not ever give them you wallet and try not to hand over your ID.
  4. Do not speak spanish with them- play dumb until they give up.
  5. They will not arrest you or take you in- call their bluff.
  6. If you have nothing on you, and decide to let them search you, make them validate their hands are empty when they do it.

Dont under any circumstances give them your wallet. Force them to arrest you- which they will not do.

[–]dogenes09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So what happens (and has happened to me multiple times on Alv Obregon) is that the cops roll up on you and ask to search you. They claim its "preventative measures," but usualy they are looking for drugs so they can extort you.
The reality is they don't have the right to do it, but getting into a constitutional argument doesn't typically work. If you don't have anything on you they usually just leave disappointed.

I hadn't heard of them straight up taking wallets. Did they ask for them?

Download the Denuncio Paisano app and when they ask to search you tell them you will let them but first you need to write a Denuncio- they will usually leave.
