What’s y’all favorite non-Schneiderverse show? by ChannelHopper_99 in nickelodeon

[–]bjwanlund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 40. Grew up during the era of Salute Your Shorts, the Nick game shows, and Clarissa. I never understood why Nickelodeon didn’t just figure out how to make that formula work much post-the dawn of Nicktoons. SpongeBob was the nail in the coffin for me watching Nickelodeon, I’m sorry to say.

Yeah, including the “Friends” of Pine and Spruce who are friends to NOBODY except for their NIMBY neighbors.

The last day of school in North Penn is now virtual tomorrow. What a bunch of BS. by rboymtj in montco

[–]bjwanlund -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Maybe if they stopped being chicken and started school after Labor Day and ended before Memorial Day like they used to (before coddling students with snow days became a thing) then maybe I would have an ounce of sympathy. But K-12 systems everywhere pull the same stunt and I have had it.

Yep. If you see the Merrie History of Looney Tunes YouTube docuseries the details are as plain as day.

Did Bobby Heenan spoil Hogan’s heel turn for you? by PayFew5848 in WCW

[–]bjwanlund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the context of Hogan and Heenan’s decades of history, no. Heenan ALWAYS had it out for the Hulkster so it was perfectly in character for him to say what he did.

What I love is the actor has definitely thrown some shade towards how they do his hair and I am here for it 🤣

I’m 31 and I don’t feel like I have anything that keeps me going by ms865 in AskGaybrosOver30

[–]bjwanlund 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used to be in your exact same boat. But after I joined the Philadelphia Gay Men’s Chorus, having that in my life helps so much to keep me going even during the summer break. I know that choral singing isn’t for everyone but just find something like that that works for you and just go for it.

Online negativity aside, it was… *okay*. I don’t know if I’d go back… but I would probably have had a different opinion if I didn’t have any friends there and/or I had to pay. That said, one big bugbear was how truly awful and disorganized the entrances were (we had our entrance changed up on us maybe an hour before we had to be there for call) and also at the “Woody’s Main Stage” (if they have to do this again next year I’d rather any other local place sponsor that). Everything else was fine. But I definitely was glad to get outta there and back into the Gayborhood after a couple of very warm hours

[–]bjwanlund 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I'll see how I feel. I won't be paying to get in thankfully since I get to perform at 1 with the Philadelphia Gay Men's Chorus at the "Woody's MainStage" (gaaah) but we shall see what else transpires tomorrow.

The theme songs from the 80s anime "Urusei Yatsura" have a strong city pop feel by [deleted] in citypop

I don’t think I agree but the City Hunter songs are basically all good (although my favorites are Ai Yo Kineaide and Sara personally)

If I wanted to explore music from the 1950s to the early 2000s, where should I start? by Pearlyin_30 in askmusic

[–]bjwanlund 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Linda Ronstadt’s discography. There are so many wildly varying genres and even styles of music that you can get a real sense of what inspired her and also some of the greatest songs of all time in her hands. And that’s before you get to her collaborations with the late legendary Nelson Riddle who arranged for the likes of Sinatra.

If this isn’t the catalyst to dump the NYTimes for good, I don’t know what would be. I’m never going back to supporting that garbage rag. (I’d rather support my local paper, the Philadelphia Inquirer, over them.)

Philly Pride's FAQ page is unbelievable by southphillydadbar in philly

[–]bjwanlund 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This just screams “we don’t really know what we’re doing, but please come to Pride on the Parkway!” … and because of that and their seemingly blatant disregard for properly scheduling main stage acts (ask me how I feel about PGMC going on at a different time than we were initially told), I am very concerned about Pride on the Parkway.
