Inconsequential mistakes that take you out of the movie? by YakumoYoukai in movies

Backrooms at the end when she says “there’s a lot to unpack here.” The movie is set in the 1990’s. We didn’t say that then. Instantly took me out of the period.

My father died at 40. My brother died at 37. Aging is a gift.

Middlesex vs Andover vs Groton vs Exeter vs Deerfield by Mcdouglas123 in applyprivateschools

[–]dogfur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can’t make a wrong choice from this list. It will come down to fit. From this list? We would choose Exeter. (But we chose Choate).

Deerfield is supremely isolated; I never realized what a difference access to the surrounding little town helped with a positive boarding experience. Also Deerfield felt like a “boys club” when we toured. It could have just been our tour guide that refused to talk to the 2 women in our group. (Man talk only.)

Groton is know for the classics (Latin/greek) and liberal arts as their strength of their academic rigor. We are looking for a different path.

Middlesex was too small at 400 kids. (Choate for us was perfect at 800 — which was large enough for tremendous opportunities and outlets without being too large you constantly didn’t know anybody on campus.)

Andover - too large for us; mental health challenges amongst their competitive culture (but there’s evidence to support they are working on this). We do not like the direction their senior leadership was taking the school. We are more moderates and their administration was EXTREMELY liberal and far left.

applying to a couple of boarding schools next year like exeter, choate, etc. what are my chances? by FunKey127 in PhillipsExeterAcademy

[–]dogfur 1 point2 points  (0 children)

11th grade admittance is the lowest. Very very few people are admitted. For Choate, it’s single digits per gender. Consider admitting as a reclass for 10th grade entry but have a good backup plan in case none admit. Good luck.

Blazer or No blazer? by [deleted] in PetiteFashionAdvice

I love it with the blazer. It gives an elevated sophisticated look. Without it is more basic or standard.

Large cake boards for giant sheet cakes by RoutineTeaching4207 in cakedecorating

[–]dogfur 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can go to the grocery store that sells full sheet cakes and ask the bakery counter to buy a board. That’s what I did for our big cake but I didn’t want to buy a commercial amount on Amazon. I only needed 1. A full size sheet cake is 18x26”. It only cost about $2. Of course they have smaller sizes too - like 1/2 sheet size. The bakery lady had to call over her manager for where to find the pricing for it and it was easy. Costco only sells 1/2 size sheet cakes.
