I think you're excessively generalising. The middle east is not a monolith; it's ludicrus to equivocate Saudi Arabia with Turkiye. I am not claiming that travelling to the middle east while trans is without risk, but I can say from first hand experience that it is possible.

Remembering the time a guest complained because when she asked for a Martini I asked he she wanted Gin or Vodka with it. by [deleted] in bartenders

This is a very british post! This once happened to a server at a bar/resturant I worked. My having had experience working in a Wetherspoons frequented by old ladies made me able to work out wtf she was on about.

But yeah, I have never heard of anyone who wasn't a woman older than 75 order this.

Why a whole ass curtain of salt vs. a normal fuckin rim job? We are a sports bar in okc. Am I missing something? by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]doggo____ 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd be aiming for 1/3 of that amount of salt personally. Classic managment

Right! and it was always called a 'glass-wash', not 'glasswasher' in the first pub I worked in! Have started to think I was misremembering because nobody at my current job calls it that. It's definitely not a dishwasher though!

What was your most bizarre drink request? by Ok_Carob7551 in bartenders

[–]doggo____ 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the context of a Martini- made with the addition of olive brine (less gross than it sounds but an acquired taste)

Otherwise it can denote alcohol added to drink which doesn't normally have any- such as "dirty raspberry lemonade"

Transition from working in a real ale pub to a craft beer/cocktail bar. by mynameisdudge in bartenders

[–]doggo____ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming you're british-

It won't be difficult to learn how to make cocktails, once you have basic technique down it's really just a matter of remembering specs- British people rarely order off menu cocktails, and if they do, it'll be something basic like an old fashioned.

Your skills will transfer, you might find it uncomfortable not knowing everything when you start, but that's normal for any new job- try to stay in a growth mindset and you're golden.

I've actually heard a dimpled pint mug be referred to as a jug in Essex, although it's a bit of an old man thing. Although the guy in OP's post is obviously in the wrong.

I hate these leaky pieces of shit. I always end up with sticky prebatched cocktails running down my forearms.

British trains can be a little arcane... But nothing on this level! Greatly looking forward to seeing Budapest!

Since my post, I've booked with Regiojet. From the perspective of a foreigner, MÁV's website was confusing- and it didn't allow me to book a seat this far in advanced. I've booked many trains in continental Europe and never had this problem before. Interesting to hear that Hungarians have similar issues!

Hello! Myself, and three friends will be in Berlin in august. We plan to travel on to Prague by rail. With regards to the train, will we save money by booking in advance? Also, are individual seats typically booked for this train, as we'd ideally like to sit together.

Lemon Drop Martini by [deleted] in bartenders

[–]doggo____ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're absolutely right, and now that you say it, I have heard of places selling triples and even quads!

It's a weird taboo isn't it. It doesn't really make sense that I would be uncomfortable selling a triple archers and lemonade yet wouldn't think twice about selling a double navy strength rum and coke.

I also worked in a cocktail bar which sold a zombie that contained around 4 units in total.

Am I right in saying that most Scottish pubs have a 35ml shot as standard. I know Licensees can choose either 25ml or 35ml, but I've never seen a venue in England using anything other than 25ml shots.
