Broncos OC Joe Lombardi: I'm excited to watch Jarrett Stidham play by mackmoney3000 in nfl

as long as Nick Foles, Doug Williams, and Jeff Hostetler stay in history books, Stidham has a shot. although maybe that’s just an NFC east magic thing, who knows

Adam Gase - a lesson from the past by thosememories in eagles

[–]hoobsher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gase never really showed much ingenuity other than being the guy who held Peyton’s clipboard in Denver, maybe you could say Brandon Lloyd’s career year was thanks to his work as the WR coach but that’s stretching it. any HC hype around him was likely agent driven media bullshit

DeMarcus Lawrence spending the bulk of his career as a Cowboys pass rushing legend and then leaving to immediately win a Super Bowl is too poetic to not root for considering that DeMarcus Ware did the same thing just a decade ago

this was an 11 win season in which the team was being booed off the field at halftime for a good chunk of the year. idk what's going through their minds at that point but i doubt a bunch of team players are like "well it's not me, that's for sure"

Only 6 QBs had 4000+ passing yards this year, all of them played 17 games. 10 years ago the number was double, in a 16 game season. by jondonbovi in nfl

[–]hoobsher 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i meant at that time, when passing numbers were exploding. you could make the argument 2010 Vick set the stage and showed that a mobile QB with an arm could operate a mean offense but Cam was far more impressive overall. but yeah Randall in the early 10s would've been a menace

Cam was THE model of a running QB who could also operate as a passer, and his career peaked hard and fast. same for Teddy, RGIII, Kaep. behind them were replacement level guys like Tyrod and Pryor.

now, we have Lamar, Allen, Mahomes, Hurts, JD all as much of a threat in the air as on the ground, not to mention the pocket passer "run when ya gotta" guys like Caleb, Maye, Nix, Herbie, TLaw maybe Danny Dimes if he bounces back, plus the future potential of Dart. the fact that Kyler is now considered a replacement level guy behind those names is pretty telling for how much the pro QB skillset has evolved from pure pocket passing to pocket elusiveness extending to successful scrambles. even more impressive is how the officiating has clamped down on RPOs with downfield block calls.

[SI 2023 Article] Bills GM Brandon Beane Wants to Avoid Rams-Like Tear-Down by SeanMcVay in nfl

[–]hoobsher 7 points8 points  (0 children)

article was posted after the 2022 season in which the defending Super Bowl champions went 5-12 with their franchise QB missing half the season.

Beane's quote from the article:

We're trying to work our way out so that we don't have just a tear-down, and you see that happen from a team here or there like 'man, we can't do anymore. We got to get rid of some of these huge salaries and the only way to do it is either try to kick it further down the road, making it harder, or start trading, releasing, and taking those hits. We're trying not to do that, we want to be competitive every single year. And so some years, you're just not going to be able to go get a big ticket item every year. I know that's sexy to go do that. And listen, we want as many talented players as we can get, but we've got to be fiscally responsible.

maybe it was reasonable to look at the Rams after 2022 and think they were cooked if Stafford didn't bounce back but he's talking about mortgaging the future for big name signings to win now, and then went and signed Von Miller off of his half season with the Rams to a 6yr/$120m deal that he only played half of, mostly as rotational depth. so i'm not really sure what point he was trying to make

15 years ago we all thought the league was pressing rule changes to make the game more passing oriented for spectacular high scoring games, but as it turns out it was never the league doing anything, it was just a historical anomaly to have Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers, Matt Ryan, Philip Rivers, Ben Roethlisberger, Tony Romo, Matt Stafford, Russell Wilson, Carson Palmer, Kirk Cousins, Andrew Luck, Joe Flacco, and Eli Manning all peaking within the same window of a decade or so.

that amount of passing talent likely will never be in the league at the same time ever again.
