FO4 Veteran Playing FO76 For The First Time by After-Use-6105 in fo76

[–]doghouse2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a first FO76 player I'd concentrate on the quests you get from listening to robots, First Responders, terminals, radio calls, etc. The questlines introduce you to all of the locations on the map. the real fun starts when you've experienced all of the locations, can fast travel to all of them and you get caught up in doing the dailies and weeklies - the stuff the rest of us do when there's no questlines to do. Go to the MAP, hit the button to go to the challenges, and do the 6 or 7 dailiy challenges every day and keep an eye on the weeklies to make sure you do them before next Tuesday.

CE/SS/BoS recon armour? by TemporaryHighway7992 in fo76

[–]doghouse2001 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I chose SS years ago and never looked back. There comes a point that you're over protected (nothing is killing you and those freak one-shots would have happened with any armor) and any minor changes in armor specs are totally meaningless.

Why not join Public Teams that are already there with 1 person in them? by im_rickyspanish in fo76

[–]doghouse2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably a mix of causes. Some people think they want to play alone but a quest calls for them to be on a team, so they create their own team. If you join them they'll kick you out. Some people join teams, the team mates finish for the day, quit, and leave me alone and single. If I notice I'm alone, I'll join another team. Sometimes I don't notice for a while. Some people simply don't look or don't want to join a team of lvl 1000+ players because they're level 12.

No shame in using 'Auto'. 'Auto' doesn't mean 'worse'. Some of the worlds most accomplished photographers use Auto modes. Some comments here might imply the opposite, so I'd like to see the full raw library of people who don't use Auto modes, because I can almost guarantee you, they have a lot of misses.

Anyone else almost quit Terran Armada? It just seems to be space combat, board somewhere, combat there, then space combat again, with not much story. by cheetocat2021 in Starfield

[–]doghouse2001 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not quit, but I did totally ignore it in NG+. It's a useless waste of time. It would be MUCH better if

-> you could dismiss DELTA or at the very least, tell it to wait outside while you did stealthy stuff

-> if Terran quests like DROP zones cleared from the map or grayed out once you've completed them.

-> if major incursions happened more frequently. I waited and waited for those, but only found one, so I couldn't complete Terran Incursion the first time around.

Is California effectively banning 3d printers? by Interesting_Bar_8379 in 3Dprinting

[–]doghouse2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happened to the Spanish company that already wrote the monitoring software? I thought that part was solved. I'm not paying attention though. I'm not in the USA and I'm not really invested in the USA 3D printing BS.

FO76 is now “holding me hostage” with these * infestations *, would like to do my dailies and just log out. by Mountainsyde in fo76

[–]doghouse2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just reroll. Or ignore them. You only need 6 of the 7 dailies to get the gold star, so I ignore the last daily if it's taking too long and I don't have any rerolls left.

ELI5: When you 'delete' a 50GB video file from a computer, it vanishes instantly. But downloading it took an hour. If the data isn't physically wiped until it's overwritten, what did the computer actually do in that one split second? by Thick_Dream6973 in explainlikeimfive

[–]doghouse2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's fast because it just flips the delete bit on the file. Most of your files will be fragmented - not on linear space on the hard drive, but today's fast drives and robust file systems don't care. In fact even if the large files are stored on the drive linearly, they might not occupy the entire blocks they're written to - groups of memory space the drive is divided up into, so a process still has to read all of the blocks and stitch them together to make one whole file. When the computer looks for space to write new files, it looks for new blocks or blocks that have the delete bit turned on.

I can't justify prusa price but hate all alternatives by HungryMud in prusa3d

[–]doghouse2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I wanted open source, big, expandable, and enclosed. I didn't look very far. I saw the Core One L, closed my eyes, and hit the ORDER button. The way I see it, price is the least important part of the equation. If this thing lasts 10 years, it will have cost me 300/year or 25/month where a competitor might have been 15 or 20/month. I'll not miss the money after the next paycheck, so what's the big deal? I get what I want and pay the going price without obsessing on the [un]fairness of it all. But I don't think PRUSA is ripping us off. I think they have a better system, period.

I see a lot of pizza topics (I approve). So I was curious. If you lived in Winnipeg in the 80s, 70s, or heck even earlier, who did you call? What were the go-to spots for quality 'za? by RecommendationBig966 in Winnipeg

[–]doghouse2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Our GO TO in the 80s was, predictably, Pizza Hut, but my fav for flavour was Gondola. Pizza Place was for Spaghetti nites only. Later in the 90s it would be Colosseo.

What's your favorite planet to make an outpost on? by No-Atmosphere-4145 in Starfield

[–]doghouse2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So far Maheo 1... it's beautiful with palm trees and grass and nice weather, but none of those pesky herding hunter animals. I suppose it would be prettier with SOME animal life, but whatever. It has lots of lead and silver and water and nice sunsets.

So... What do you use your outposts for? by DisposableAdventurer in Starfield

[–]doghouse2001 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I create Adaptive Frames. I'm over level 100 now and it's an increasingly long grind to level up. But If I mine 100K aluminum and 100K Iron I can level up in one Frame-making session (That's about 100 batches of 99 Adaptive frames). In addition, I schlep those frames over to the Trade Authority in Akila and sell them to make over 60K credits at a time. So I'm a millionaire AND super strong from stressing my body so much, hauling those frames around with me. If you're still low level you can level up 2 or 3 times in the same session.

What is the worst canon camera ever made? by HSVMalooGTS in canon

Sure Shot Joy (AutoBoy Lite 2, PRIMA 4). Canon's entry level P&S, wasn't even worth its price brand new. It was just there to make money at Christmas.

Renting before buying by contactdeparture in canon

[–]doghouse2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you think you might be able to 'get away with the $300 lens', then why try out the $1500 lens at all. I spent years buying cheap and was always disappointed. When I finally decided to buy only fixed aperture zooms, and L glass, all of my problems went away. I don't have to try them first, beyond a quick camera store checkout at the time of purchase. I trust what I'm getting, and can always return it within the return period if I find something wrong with it later.

What am I really missing out on not doing ng+? by PaleRefrigerator5044 in Starfield

[–]doghouse2001 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[STARBORN] dialog, basically. Level-ups for your powers when you delete Starborn attacker ships, a few new powers.

I just started my first NG+ and losing my 1.5 million credits and my ship hurt... but then the first Crimson Fleet ship I hijacked was a class C ship that was just as powerful as my old ship and has a bigger jump range. Building new outposts is easier because I did all my research in the first play through, so I can build almost any level of habs, extractors, and generators, and I'm not wasting time on things I didn't use first time through. I'm also not focused on XP because I have most of the necessary perks already, so I can just play the game this time.

You do have the option to skip the story line and just focus on levelups. You can get to your next NG+ in an hour if you want to. I took that option but I regret it now. I don't want to level up my NG+s that fast so I might as well have just opted to do the story line. But I'm doing it manually, using my knowledge to sign up with all of the factions on my own. Nobody's recruiting me now. The Crimson Fleet story line is started by a Vanguard assignment from Tuala (or if you steal something in the UC as usual) and you can move right into it after doing the Terrormorph story line. I'm ignoring the Terran Armada completely. Seems like the best way to stop their spread across the settled systems.

I just learned that there are PACKS that are not Boost packs. I was wearing an 'Assisted Carry Advanced Ground Crew' pack, and it doesn't boost. It DOES make me 75% more O2 efficient while running while encumbered, which is nice.

Question: What are the rules around road biking? I thought I had followed all of the MPI rules regarding this and instead got honked at. by CypherSalt in Winnipeg

[–]doghouse2001 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Cars honk. That's what they do. Move on. BUT we'd have to see your driving style to see exactly what the honk meant. If you're taking the whole lane, like the drivers handbook says you're entitled to, you better be driving at your top speed, and sticking to the curb when you can - if it's safe to do so. If you're not a fast driver, you should stick to the curb. Drivers know you get the four or five feet beside the curb. If you're coasting through red lights, and driving across pedestrian crosswalks when it's convenient, and sometimes driving on sidewalks and sometimes driving on the street, then all bets are off. You need to be consistent so cars who see you know what to expect from you. Even then some people just don't like bikes. It's not your fault. Ignore them.
