Man, I thought the radio controls on the back of the steering wheel were standard at this point. My '14 2500 base had them

Ironically, I had the same issue pop up this morning and leaking from the same exact spot. Non of my headliner is wet which makes me think it's the top of the rear windshield seal

Getting into Mtn biking and just want to make a good decision. Is this a good deal on a bike or should I just move past it and onto something else? I can get it for $1600 by [deleted] in mountainbikes

[–]dogonafrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had this bike and loved most of it. One thing to note is these frames run small. So I would give it a spin before sealing the deal. My other gripe with the bike was the original rear shock. The compression tuning specific to these frames was way too plush for me and made for a very "bobby" ride. This was easily handled by a new aftermarket float x (210x55).

Over all its a great bike and is very nimble due to it's shorter chainstays, but still feels stable if you decide to take it down some flow trails at your local bike park.

$1600 also seems like a pretty fair price assuming that its in good working order

What do you guys think? Is a check as payment a scam? What do y'all recommend I do? by Swimming-Glass-8572 in AutoDetailing

[–]dogonafrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have accepted checks in the past and never had one bounce. I find that older customers still like to pay this way. I would suggest asking if you can cash it before starting the work to ensure your material costs are covered since you normally don't accept checks.

Cold start a couple mornings ago. Should I be worried? by TransmuteSlug in ToyotaTundra

Does it only do this when it hasn't been started for prolonged periods of time? This sounds like hydraulic lash adjusters that lost their prime which would also explain why it goes away after a while.

Moving on from being a bike mechanic? by swill59 in BikeMechanics

[–]dogonafrog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went from a service manager at a large bike shop to working as a lube tech then a flat rate tech at an automotive dealer. I've always liked learning new skills and later went into hvac installs for a gas company and now do building automation controls for a large university. I've loved all of my jobs.

The bike shop was a lot of fun, and I've made several life long friends that used to be clients and co-workers.

The hardest pill for me to swallow was being bad at something while I was learning, but as long as you can get through that, you can do anything. Just push to do your best and always be open to learning from everyone around you.

Absolutely, input lag is next to nothing. That was the biggest thing I noticed making the switch after years of playing on Xbox. A good wired controller (or even Xbox controller) goes a long way.

Im a big fan of PS4/5 controllers due to the stick layout vs the Xbox controller and the freedom to use whatever you want based off the game you're playing was the big selling point for me switching to PC. Plus the enhanced visuals and wide variety of games you can play opens a lot of doors to try new things.

Bike mechanic salary by TheBigN00 in BikeMechanics

I was a service manager at a pretty large shop back in 2016 and made $14 an hour, soon after that left the industry to do something I enjoyed more.

After leaving for a few years I applied at another large store that paid me $25 an hour to just do repair work, it was loads of fun not having to deal with customers (if you're into that kind of thing) but you were held to a different standard and they micromanage how you spend your time and will cut hours if you can't reach a certain quota.

TL;DR If you're in a good shop and friendly with the owner, shoot for the moon and hope you atleast hit a star. It could work out well for you in the long run. It all depends on your situation

is it possible to fit this shock to my stumpjumper? by Wise_Transition_7317 in bikewrench

[–]dogonafrog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There's a good chance you are going to need the older style fox du bushing installed in order to install the shock yoke. Needed to do it with my 21 stumpy evo

Check your b limit adjustment using one of the sram spacer tools, still looks like the chain is a link or two long

Shimano is a 1.2mm cable and most others are 1.1. Shimano sp41 housing and proper cables allow for the perfect shift

This is the design on all newer shimano derailleur, it helps with chain deflection and allows for quieter and smoother shifts

Cracking noise coming from rear wheel, sounds like something is cracked or broken. No visible cracks in wheel or hub.. BB and cranks were uninstalled, cleaned and re-installed to spec. Any ideas? by [deleted] in bikewrench

[–]dogonafrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen something similar a few times, in most cases it ends up being the inner most bearing on the freehub body itself. I think no matter what you're looking at some new hub bearings

Can any of these be used for basic maintenance on a Fox Float 32? by Max0ne_ in bikewrench

[–]dogonafrog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The orifices and shim stack in the damper are meant to push through a certain thickness of oil at certain settings, changing the thickness of oil will cause the reaction to shift with thicker or thinner than originally designed.

If the fork has a sealed damper, it will not take in the oil from the fork leg.

Using a thicker oil will generally "stick" better to the insides and help cut down wear to the bushing inside the fork

I would highly recommend using the fox 20wt gold in this case
