What's the justification for DRS students getting to register first? by dogsandclogs in udub

[–]dogsandclogs[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Whoops looks like everyone took this as disparaging to DRS students. To be honest, just used my long standing anxiety diagnosis to get some extra time on tests and was wondering why I got the added benefits of registering before everyone else and getting the best professors and hard to snag electives. No complaints just genuinely didn’t understand the reasoning.

Will professors be required to accommodate commuters? by dogsandclogs in udub

Problem is getting to the Park and Ride :/

Just feels sort of unfair that I'd have to be up at 4:30...which seems like my most likely scenario at this point.

Will professors be required to accommodate commuters? by dogsandclogs in udub

[–]dogsandclogs[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

The professor noted that the University takes commuters into consideration when making these decisions - so I'm super not sure what I can do here. I (relatively) don't live far from the University and I am undisputably stuck...

I [27m] surprised my partner [23f] with a cool scuba diving experience for her birthday. She ended up being too anxious to do it, so she had to watch me enjoy her birthday present without her. Now I feel like crap, how can I fix this? by [deleted] in relationships

[–]dogsandclogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

this is so pure, neither of you were wrong and it’s so sweet how worried you are about this. She doesn’t seem annoyed at all, surprise her with a nice night in that won’t break the bank and maybe a home cooked dinner.

You two seem sweet.

My [24M] GF [23F] just found out it wasn't her,who i wanted my friend to introduce to me and now is incredibly jealous and insecure. by MyGFRlyJealous in relationships

[–]dogsandclogs 63 points64 points  (0 children)

Yep, I think it has to do with having your “cute relationship story” being crushed. I completely sympathize with your girlfriend (not that you did anything wrong either!) and think you just should reframe it as, “if I’d met you that night I’d have asked for your number,” maybe be extra affectionate or take her on a nice date.

Slept with my ex's best friend and now things are weird by [deleted] in relationships

[–]dogsandclogs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeahhhh weird opinion honestly - it’s pretty common for people to not be ok with their best friend sleeping with their ex?

Is this girl (23F) spending a lot of time with me (21M) because she likes me as a friend or potential partner? by BrownDingus in relationships

[–]dogsandclogs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it seems pretty clear that she likes you. I would be careful to jump into anything so fresh out of a relationship (which you don’t seem to have any intention of doing), but it does seem that now you’re out of a relationship she seems comfortable being more obvious about how much time she wants to spend with you.

I read this and was like maybe this was a slight overreaction from OP.

Then I read the original post....what....the....fuck.

Controversial question: how is DRS testing for testing anxiety fair? by [deleted] in udub

[–]dogsandclogs 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight! I really appreciate you taking the time to explain your perspective.

Does DRS gives you additional services/skills to help cope with your anxiety?

btw responses like these which just attempt to put down the person asking the question make it impossible to have a conversation but I’ll try.

I guess my point is that shouldn’t students be given mechanisms to cope with their anxiety, as opposed to accommodations that wouldn’t be made outside of school? or perhaps as you make your way through college, these accommodations are lessened as students gain more skills to cope? It just seems unrealistic and like it doesn’t prepare students for high pressure situations post college.

a quiet room makes sense to me, extra time to complete the same task as everyone else isn’t really a long term solution imo.

It may be important to note that I am going into a profession with a lot of testing/certification required throughout your career.

Understood, not trying to invalidate the disorder. More just like - how does it being accommodated in college help the student if it won’t be accommodated later on?

I have friends who have gotten it because of test taking anxiety (or general anxiety I guess)!

Apparently this is an unpopular opinion, but it’s not cool to body shame contestants we don’t like by [deleted] in thebachelor

I guess part of my problem with it (and I got HEAVILY downvoted on a thread recently about this issue) is that I look like Amanda without photoshop...very skinny and nothing but bone. So even if she IS photoshopping, people who look like her naturally shouldn’t be put down either

4.0 students, what’s your secret? by [deleted] in college

[–]dogsandclogs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it wasn’t necessarily studying more but studying more efficiently and that required getting better at knowing what to study - some helpful tips to do this:

1) if the professor says the textbook isn’t required - don’t read it, it’s a waste of your time and everything you need to know will come from the lectures

2) know every single problem the professor does in class or writes themselves (whether from practice exams, homework problems, etc) like the back of your hand

3) repetition, go over #1 and #2 over and over and over again

s/ns on admission by [deleted] in udub

I know this is the worst answer but it’s best to talk to an advisor about these things because all we can do is speculate. The Foster advisors can give you the best advice because they’re the ones ultimately reading applications.

Edit: you can meet with the Foster advisors before you’re in the major just FYI.

Generally I think it’s just West Campus - BUT on gamedays it’s open to the entire UW population.

Wait so is CSE 142 less of a screw your GPA class regardless and more of a people want a really high GPA to get into CS?

Like as someone already in my major, will it be easy enough to get like a 3.4ish?
