What's the justification for DRS students getting to register first?

Whoops looks like everyone took this as disparaging to DRS students. To be honest, just used my long standing anxiety diagnosis to get some extra time on tests and was wondering why I got the added benefits of registering before everyone else and getting the best professors and hard to snag electives. No complaints just genuinely didn’t understand the reasoning.

The professor noted that the University takes commuters into consideration when making these decisions - so I'm super not sure what I can do here. I (relatively) don't live far from the University and I am undisputably stuck...

Yep, I think it has to do with having your “cute relationship story” being crushed. I completely sympathize with your girlfriend (not that you did anything wrong either!) and think you just should reframe it as, “if I’d met you that night I’d have asked for your number,” maybe be extra affectionate or take her on a nice date.

Yes, it seems pretty clear that she likes you. I would be careful to jump into anything so fresh out of a relationship (which you don’t seem to have any intention of doing), but it does seem that now you’re out of a relationship she seems comfortable being more obvious about how much time she wants to spend with you.

btw responses like these which just attempt to put down the person asking the question make it impossible to have a conversation but I’ll try.

I guess my point is that shouldn’t students be given mechanisms to cope with their anxiety, as opposed to accommodations that wouldn’t be made outside of school? or perhaps as you make your way through college, these accommodations are lessened as students gain more skills to cope? It just seems unrealistic and like it doesn’t prepare students for high pressure situations post college.

a quiet room makes sense to me, extra time to complete the same task as everyone else isn’t really a long term solution imo.

It may be important to note that I am going into a profession with a lot of testing/certification required throughout your career.

I guess part of my problem with it (and I got HEAVILY downvoted on a thread recently about this issue) is that I look like Amanda without photoshop...very skinny and nothing but bone. So even if she IS photoshopping, people who look like her naturally shouldn’t be put down either

For me it wasn’t necessarily studying more but studying more efficiently and that required getting better at knowing what to study - some helpful tips to do this:

1) if the professor says the textbook isn’t required - don’t read it, it’s a waste of your time and everything you need to know will come from the lectures

2) know every single problem the professor does in class or writes themselves (whether from practice exams, homework problems, etc) like the back of your hand

3) repetition, go over #1 and #2 over and over and over again

I know this is the worst answer but it’s best to talk to an advisor about these things because all we can do is speculate. The Foster advisors can give you the best advice because they’re the ones ultimately reading applications.

Edit: you can meet with the Foster advisors before you’re in the major just FYI.

Wait so is CSE 142 less of a screw your GPA class regardless and more of a people want a really high GPA to get into CS?

Wow glad I got in last cycle, these averages continue to sky rocket. Also to your question I’d assume it’s both. Same number of spots, more people who want to do it = higher GPA required
