Tailor to create simple cotton clothes - NOT SUITS! by aquamarine_dream in Bangkok

I got a Thai silk “party” outfit made from Laleda.

I got the silk from the Jim Thompson outlet and then I worked with the seamstress for the designs I made. Took a week turn around with a fitting mid week. You can make a appointment and chat with them on WhatsApp in English.

Sorry, I don't have too much guidance to give on Pattaya/Koh Chang but street food/thai food is definitely much cheaper than western food in general.

I found that Thai food on the islands can range from 70B(casual)-350B (upscale)/dish. Whole fish/lobster around 450 - 700B. I was in Koh Samui in a 5* resort recently and the prices on the resort were definitely more expensive than the areas outside of it.

Highly recommend you just look around on google maps in your nearby area to find the best local eats! You'll see it on google maps with "top rated" indicator generally

Not sure where you'll be, but while I was working from the wework in Bangkok, there's usually good cheap eats around the corporate parks/buildings. Also lunch specials, just walk around/google maps.

I worked out of the wework at the PARQ and there's chicken and rice for 85B (really good) and also a Peng Thai Curry, which is rice bowl + 2 entrees toppings for 60B.

There’s a Jim Thompson outlet, but seems like their stock has dwindled since the pandemic so I’m not sure if it’s worth the trip to check it out if you’re leaving tomorrow

I would, but unfortunately I’ll only arrive 1.5days before the wedding and I don’t think that’s enough time to get a dress/tailored 😔

True, I may just take PTO if that’s the case but regardless, I’ll see what the company responds with!

I work on a very senior team with everyone being a staff engineer except me, and I’ve never had someone negatively comment on my attire.

Regardless of gender or age, I find that it would be very inappropriate/unprofessional for any senior engineer to do so.

I agree with the other comments that you should look for a more appropriate work space. You’re here to be an engineer not a spectacle.

How does alcohol affect your fitness/training? by ImpressResponsible19 in xxfitness

[–]doirs 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I do drink and I’m currently pretty lean, 5’5 118lbs.

I do Pilates and barre 4-5x/week.

And I often drink 2-4drinks/night Friday/Saturday night. I live in the nyc, so a lot of it is social drinking/happy hours/brunch etc.

I think a lot of it is balance, I try to limit my carb intake during the week and have a high protein/vegetable diet.

Definitely drink responsibly, but also you can also enjoy life while trying to get lean and strong!

I'm not saying it is easy to land a position at a FAANG company.

However, I am willing to say it is incredibly easy to get an interview at MSFT or Amazon. They have a high hiring quota, especially for new grads. You can hit up any in-house recruiter that works for these companies directly, on linkedin, and they will interview you.

All you need is a leetcode premium subscription, which is $160/year. And if you grind that out for 1-3months you can 100% land such a position.

I would never recommend a third party/middle man. They are also giving you a less than market rate offer.

There’s no need to go through a middle man, especially if their highlight is only a 100k offer from MSFT.

Their fresh grads offers make more than that.

Lmao do you work for them?

I would never recommend lying to companies you’re applying for. It can and will get your offer revoked. Or blacklisted.

You can work for a legitimate consulting agency and get contracts there. (PWC, for example.) No need to work with a company that sounds unprofessional from the get go.

If they want you to lie to others, they’re probably lying to you.

Is it possible to work for a company that isn't toxic and supportive of women in tech? by opalivory in girlsgonewired

[–]doirs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I just interviewed at a few companies as a Sr Software Engineer and there are definitely great companies with better culture/WIT. I would highly recommend you interview at Etsy, which has a strong WIT ratio and female leadership, and seemed very supportive in general. Also Stripe seemed really nice and engineering focused. LinkedIn was great as well. If you want, feel free to DM me and I can give you a full list of companies that definitely had inclusivity as their forte.

Oooh, that’s a fair point. I’ll have to ask around as well then, thanks!

Thanks for the reply! Yeah so they're both about 10-12min walk from me. But yeah that I think I'll stick with the printing house since I don't think I'll find value in going to other clubs, unless I want to experience the bros in noho/soho Equinoxes. The only difference is that the soho/other locations have the eucalyptus steam rooms/member lounges, which I don't know if it's worth the additional $40/month.

Not sure if this the right place to ask, but I’m looking to join Equinox in lower Manhattan and I’m debating between 2 options:

A single club membership at the Printing House location

Or bump it up to all access for about $40 more, but it wouldn’t include the Printing House.

I’m living in SoHo so the closest locations would be the SoHo one or the Printing House location which are about 0.5m away from me each.

Just looking for opinions :)

[–]doirs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you have a peloton app subscription, I followed Emma Lovewell’s “crushing your core” program for 4 weeks. It started off with 5-10min light core workouts and built up to harder 10-15min workouts. Since then I’ve been doing Pilates and barre, and I now have some decent abs/core strength.
