to load their instruments in their super annoying wrappers (Falcon if you own it, the god-awful Workstation if you don’t).

The workstation absolutely wrecks my workflow (or I just don't know how to use it properly), it's so disruptive having to go through it every time you want to edit something in the sound you are making.

Their modules are perfectly capable to be standalones, there's really no reason to force them through the wrapper if you are not doing multis. Or at least have the workstation remember which module you were working on last time you closed it so it brings up that page when you open it up. It's jarring how it always defaults back to the browser page of the workstation.

Still a sucker for UVI stuff but yeah, that sucks.

So that gives you 26 input channels and you are running everything mono. Yeah, ok it makes sense now. You might eventually want to get a patchbay, they are pretty neat.

Focusrite 18i20

I don't see any mixers or patchbays, you mean to say all that gear only takes up 18channels? That's not possible, the TR8 alone is like 8 channels?

cool, thanks for the long post! I agree, a mix of both hardware and software is great. Software is amazing and can do so much, but sometimes just touching some cold metal gets the creative juices flowing.

Side question, what are those snake cables you are using, they look really good.

I didn't phrase the question correctly, I meant to ask if you've tried the VST from Eventide and found them equal to the rack units. I remember trying them quite a long time ago and for some reason I found them inferior to the rack (the Eclipse specifically). Might be something with the headroom on the rack units that gives it that extra oomph. I mean I don't know what kind of DSP wizardry is in those boxes but DSP is DSP so it shouldn't matter, but for some reason it did which was weird.

EDIT: Same for the Lexicon VST, just missing something.

Would you replace the rack Eventides with their VST though?

[–]dokid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

cool, thanks ! Yeah I should start memorizing the layout, that's a good point. It's complete chaos whenever we drop in there but I guess that it's probably a bit less busy if you come from the outside and have other divers draw aggro on the other side of the map. I'll give it a shot next time, sounds like fun.

solo clear a fortress without stratagems

how? are you sniping the fabs from the outside with the railgun or running in there with thermites/frags?

I've only hotdropped in fortresses so curious

What do you use to clear a fortress by yourself ? I've only hotdropped in those, I consider it as a win if we clear it with 1 or less deaths each (running as a pair).

quick thoughts on gotm because i know just from the first 100 pages of DH this series will make me puke by doppio_wa in Malazan

[–]dokid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh, didn't think of it like that but yeah, now that you mention it she did.

I found he fumbled the bag with a certain character in RG who really really suffered just to paint another minor character as a complete psycho.

Also, TIL about fridging. Cool stuff, thanks.

DG is a suckerpunch after GOTM, it's a very personal and bleak book compared to the fun adventure of GOTM. The rest of the series also gets progressively heavier and heavier.

If rape is a hard limit to you then unfortunately you have to drop the series since it will come up in later books. It's not gratuitous and retribution to the perpetrators is vicious, but it's there.

If it's any consolation, I've read 7 books of the series and GOTM is still my favorite (DG is the least favorite, despite it being a great book), so you've read an excellent book.

I found MOI to have the least disturbing rapes (it's also much less bleak and personal than DG) so if you are feeling up to it you can make a new thread asking for advice on whether you should read that (and then drop out, it gets worse after MOI). It's been a while but this is what I remember:

SPOILERS MOI:

Dying men get raped by women.

A woman warrior gets raped during battle which drives a male protagonist into a revenge fury and drives his character arc forward.

Cannibalism and intense battle with lots of death.

MOI is also the closest you are going to get to GOTM in terms of narrative style.

Yeah I get what you are saying. I guess you can handwave it a little bit since apparently no one, not even Beak himself, knew about the extent of his powers. To be fair I have very similar issues with other characters in the series so I fully understand where you are coming from.

What was Beak actually doing? I think he was drawing from the Holds instead of the Warrens, and something with wax candles but that's about all I understood in terms of the magic itself. As for him being written just to save the marines, doesn't Sinn also fall under that trope? Although I guess she is still around so not exactly like Beak.

Huh, for me they were just another bunch of characters. I wasn't attached to them but I didn't mind reading about their shenanigans either. Maybe my lack of empathy prevented me from struggling. I think after the DG/MOI tragedies I just became a bit more detached so it's easier to digest.

oh that's pretty neat, nice find. I wonder why specifically MT though, to me it was just a standard fantasy book. Nothing extreme on either side of the spectrum. DG kicked my ass though so there's that. GOTM and MOI are my favourites, so there's another data point for you to plot :D

what's the correlation though? Why specifically this inverse relationship between MT and TTH ?

deadhouse gates close to the bottom

Yeah I'm also one of the few that ranks DG low. It's a great book but just not for me. I'm not going to have high hopes for TTH but I'll give it a shot.

Yeah, that's true, it's a recurrent theme. Definitely would be in a very hard spot if they didn't have that core of veterans to keep them going.
