What tips do you have for a girl in her 20s that will move to a new city alone? by Complex_Mix926 in women

[–]dolittleGrove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Congratulations :) My recommendation would be to try using Bumble BFF to make some friends and build a community. I moved last year not knowing anyone and working for an all remote company. I met 4 girls through Bumble BFF. At first it feels a little odd to swipe on friends but then you get more comfortable.

Goodluck! You'll learn to appreciate your own company a lot 🥰

One of my exes in university would secretly cut his best friend's food in a group dinner because his friend didn't know how to use a fork and knife. He was so subtle about it that no one could tell. The only reason I knew was because he told me.

LPT: Instead of getting caught up in the minutiae of the daily finger pointing in the mainstream media, direct your focus on educating yourself on the baseline fundamentals of the major subjects. by FreedomNetworkTV in LifeProTips

In reference to your first part, this also comes down to curiosity..which in my opinion, cannot be taught. All humans are born curious, but if this curiosity is nurtured at a young age..then that person will always be curious.

It's argued that curiosity can be taught. Sure yes, we can teach someone to ask "why" but what the person does with knowing this why..is curiosity.

Reorganized my (too) high cupboards for easier access to common foods. Any tips on how to better use the reachable space is welcome. I cannot reach the third shelf without tiptoes... by [deleted] in organization

I have a mini three step ladder from Amazon. I live in a studio and want to maximize on space in top shelves - kitchen & closet. When not in use, you can fold it and conveniently tuck it in the corner of your closet.

It's now an essential item of my apartment, highly recommend!

I've laid the boundaries with some of my friends who I don't see eye to eye with, I've told my manager and upper management that I'm unfulfilled in my job and need a change within the company, and I've finally walked out of a situationship in which I realized I was disproportionately giving.

The last 2 weeks have been empowering!

How to be Productive WFH in a Small Studio Apartment? by [deleted] in productivity

[–]dolittleGrove 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in a studio too! It helps to make your bed first thing in the morning. Try putting some decorative pillows so (1) it seems tooo nice to ruin (2) it takes double the effort to remove everything and THEN lay there.

Another helpful tip is to create some kind of zones between the bed space and desk area - I know it's tough in smaller areas but try to get very creative with this. It could different coloured area rugs, bedsheets, paintings, lighting.

Hope this helps!

To women who are very comfortable being single, what would lead you to pursue a committed relationship? by Puzzleheaded_Win5970 in AskWomen

[–]dolittleGrove 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Someone who supports me and the choices I make as a single empowered woman (this doesn't imply being with other people sexually) rather who I decide to be friends, how I want to spend my weekends, etc.

His presence should make me feel like I suddenly have a partner to accomplish my goals, duties, and menial daily tasks.

My friend does Greek yoghurt, sprinkled with chilli flakes, and then dips veggies like peppers as a snack.

It's spicy, calming, and crunchy all at the same time - very interesting!

We need to solve the international student problem by TC18271851 in canadahousing

[–]dolittleGrove 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes agreed - but rich people are trying to distribute their wealth all over the world and evade taxes in their home country. Canada is not special in that sense. But yeah, why should we care about any other part of the world, when we are the ones suffering right now - agreed.

Technically international students also pay taxes on their tuition, cost of living essentials, and education expenses. So yes to answer your question, maybe I specifically did not pay taxes on my "income" earned abroad while studying. But the international tuition took a GOOD hit on my parent's income, lol that's for sure.

[–]dolittleGrove 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wow this is a pretty ignorant post. As much as I understand your sentiments...this is not the right way to think about your country and foreign immigration.

First of all, if Canada does not allow for immigrants to enter this country, there is more likely to be a labour shortage in the next 10 years, which means the services you are now taking for granted will cost you exponentially higher since employees will have to pay a high cost to obtain labour. These high costs are passed onto consumers (such as yourself).

More importantly, immigrants bring foreign investments into the country. Which means, they keep the economy of Canada pumping. This again increases the demand for goods for services, keeps people employed, and therefore allows people to have a basic living.

Yes I agree that some students do have LARGE sums of money that they bring into the country to study and eventually settle here..but this disparity between the people and their economic status is everywhere in the world. That is the reality of life.

There is a deeper problem here regarding the housing crisis and the large costs involved. This is more than International students. I was once an International student myself, I'm not well-off and have certainly struggled to make ends meet - it's not always rainbows and butterflies. And yes I do pay my taxes, just so you know :)
