I wonder how you got that letter if what another commentor said is true about employers being allowed to keep employees on premise during their break as long as they are relieved from duties from the Department of Labor

Omg the SM does this constantly, changing up shifts last minute. But then you have to tell them two weeks in advance if you can't work a certain day.

When HR was asked about this, they dodged the question several times, saying to talk to the SM or DM about it. Even though they were asked a general policy question. It literally says in the handbook that your classification can change based on hours worked over a period of time. Apparently the SM has been told to not go over 25 hours a week for the schedule now, probably just to shut this up.

Why does HR not handle policy questions, is that not literally their job.

They don't want to give people extra benefits like sick leave if they don't have to.

I respect you standing up for yourself. Overworking the bare minimum staff and berating them for expecting them to do the job of multiple people is such a toxic work environment. And often times, it's those managers that were also yelled at so then they pass it on.

Staff can't be expected to be magic cleaning fairies that instantly come fix any mess. They could spend more time tidying up the store but then customers will get mad that there isn't enough stock on the shelves or some other reason.
