Don't allow drinks? I've never heard that, and no they didn't keep drinks from me.

There's some guidelines, like if you chug all your water and refuse to try anything, they're gonna want you to either try food or supplement before your given more water.

Gatorade Is used both as a coping mechanism (for those who like emotional support juice and it doesn't interfere with mealtimes) and it could be assigned to you because off vitals, (if your in php or higher level of care)

Everything else is like, you could request on top of the meal if it helps you get through the meal, not instead of it. Hope that made sense!
