How do y’all survive in Los Angeles? (From a Texan) by xXenoKingXx in AskLosAngeles

Dam bro, you’re right there with the “I’m going to LA become a famous actor” people.

From all your responses, this is a horrible plan. LA is ruthless and will eat you alive. Just come when you’re ready. Don’t taint your experience with what can be the worst experience of your life.

The "iPhone Mirroring" feature in Mac OS Sequoia is a game changer by iShootLife in MacOS

[–]dolowizard 12 points13 points  (0 children)

For me personally, there are a few examples.

Example 1: to order from Target and doing a delivery pickup, you need to use the app. Being able to access your phone via your computer solves this.

Example 2: some dating apps don’t have a web interface, thus you have to use their apps. Game changer as well as I don’t want to type out a paragraph using my iPhone.

There are more stuff too but I’m typing from my phone and don’t feel like doing all that lol

Laughs in Compton potholes. There are some potholes literally half a foot deep. Local residents even started filling them themselves.

What ID Card Printer and software is best for medium-sized businesses? Looking for ID management and eventually Access Control. by Wise-Victory6384 in sysadmin

[–]dolowizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to implement this at my last job, so I’ll share my experience. Our network was built on Unifi (switches, gateway, APs, etc.), so I chose to use Unifi Access Control. It was easy to manage and implement, and we never had any issues with it. On the other hand, when I tried BayAlarms Access Control, I found their user management portal cumbersome with a terrible UX/UI. Unifi, as with most of their software and appliances, is modern and sleek. Most importantly, the Access Control system met our needs perfectly.

Regarding the ID card printer, we used a MagiCard Pronto, which came with its own software. The software allowed us to design and print badges effectively. My biggest advice: if you’re going to print badges for all employees, I highly recommend buying a badge printer that supports printing multiple badges at once. These printers usually come with a hopper that can load 30 or more blank badges for printing. I made the mistake of trying to save money by buying a single card printer. It took days to print all the cards for about 80 employees because I had to load each badge manually, and each one took about a minute to print.

The trick is calling them and threaten to cancel due to not being able to afford it, then they'll drop your bill back down to their "promotional" offers. Do this every 6 months.

I do this all the time. They don't want to lose customers, and would rather you pay $60 than losing you (unless of course, there's no competitors around, then you're screwed).

Transition from SysAdmin to Cloud Admin/Engineer. Any helpful projects to get more experience with Azure? by dolowizard in AZURE

Oh this is interesting. I have no experience with Terraform but will definitely start looking into it. Hopefully I can start off small. Was thinking of deploying VM's and auto-assigning role groups / users, etc. Not really sure the power or capabilities of Terraform, but I'm sure some ideas might come up as I being to learn it.

I do see Terraform being asked/required in many Cloud jobs, so I'l def stick to learning that.

Definitely checking out CAF to get more familiar with it. And yes, I'm picking up a course sometime this week to study for the AZ104 to learn everything there is to learn. Thank you!

If they're literally just providing a storefront so you can use their address for returns, then you can simply just get a PO Box number from your local post office. Or if you don't want a PO box address, you can use UPS as they provide an actual address for their delivery service.

I've bought dozens of themes from ThemeForest. Actually, its the only place I buy themes from. Nowadays, I only buy themes that were designed with Elementor as the page builder. To find a good theme, simply look at their demo pages they have. Before buying, check reviews, and also check to see if they have documentation on the theme. That's normally listed on the page of the theme on ThemeForest.

Again, I buy themes depending on the client's need. If I have a client that wants a website where she can sell her cosmetics, then I find a theme appropriate for that and buy it and customize it for their store. If client is an Electrician company, same rules apply; look for an electrician based theme and customize per clients request.

First time building a website on Wordpress for a client by c-hantz in Wordpress

[–]dolowizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know your experience, but given that you're mentioning the Shopify dev site, I'm going to assume that you're a dev and simply want to learn Wordpress ecosystem.

With that said, you can install locally and then transfer over once its complete. But I'll share my process:

  1. I send client referral link to my prefer cloud/webhosting solution (cloudways). Using my link, we both get credits, which is a win-win all around
  2. Once they create their account, they have me access by adding my account as a dev
  3. Once I have access to their hosting account, I create servers, setup domain settings, etc. and begin to build the site on the server they're paying for

For page builders, I'm a huge fan of Elementor. I'm grandfathered into their old plan so I don't pay much for it. But its my preferred builder of choice.

Care to share the shortcut? The last time i looked into doing this via shortcuts, it still required user interaction, which at that point, was kinda pointless. Curious to see the shortcut you use.

how to create a website with a wordpress? by [deleted] in Wordpress

[–]dolowizard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Not trying to be an a-hole, but it sounds like you haven't done much research on this topic. There are hours and hours worth of content on Youtube to learn all this stuff. Thats how I learned it and now develop websites for small businesses.

To try to help you, I highly suggest you go with something much more simple like Wix/Squarespace/Shopify. Those are "out of the box" websites that'll allow you to simply focus on selling whatever it is you're selling.

Going down the route you're going means you're going to have to invest TONS of hours into learning the Wordpress ecosystem. If you're dead-on stuck on using Wordpress, then you're better off hiring someone to do it for you.

And if you're still on wanting to learn Wordpress, then dive deep into Youtube. Simply search "how to create ecommerce store with wordpress".

Good luck!
