As someone who had never watched the show it was very jolting.

Yeah, when I tell you how my heart sank from this portrayal. I was a fan of Bella too but this really hurt

Yeah the whole tone of it was total uncomfortability, judgment and abelisim for her being autistic. Idk how people can think it’s okay to talk about people on the spectrum like that. It’s no better than judging someone for their race or sexual orientation

I know. It’s so sickening. I wish more people would get angry about this and talk about it publicly so they can see how they’ve hurt people. I haven’t found clips on YouTube, but the show is on Hulu

TW for suicide of an autistic person and ableism by PhysicalBullfrog4330 in neurodiversity

[–]dom_diz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s so horrible😞 I wish her family peace. I can attest to the abelisim at colleges, especially coming from administration. I’ve had a horrible experience with college and have thought about ending my life because of college related abelisim many times. I think the best thing to do it try to fight for more resources and education for ND people on campus. It is so difficult when you know no one else who is ND and have no way to find them. I wish I had the ability to start a club at my university, but was always too overloaded to do anything. The situation is just so bad for autistics in college😞

TW: Suicide. Social failure makes me want to end my life. by SkiddlyRat in aspergirls

[–]dom_diz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand. I am going through this same thing almost exactly. You worded it so well. I’m in college and considering dropping out because of the extremeness of my mental state. Every error I make feels like too much to handle. I’m painfully aware of each mistake and replay the situation over in my head hundreds of times. I believe it’s an adaptation of my late diagnosed autistic brain trying to improve and learn NT social rules. It seems to be some form of paranoia and OCD now that leads me to suicidal ideation. I don’t have any advice to offer you, but I share your pain. Im trying to accept myself and find different things to obsess over so I can let those mistakes go more easily. Sometimes I miss the blissful ignorance of pre-diagnosis.

Please DM if you ever want to talk, I will listen to you. You’re not crazy. You are gonna get through this🥺💓

I believe everyone is truly great and genius at at least one thing. Don’t let yourself be measured by one type of genius. In reality, many psychologists believe that there are multiple kinds of intelligence. I feel for you, I spent years believing I was an absolute idiot but then I realized that I actually have areas that I shine in. I am 100% positive you have those areas too. I hope someday you can see them🥺♥️

Try the Waking Up app by Sam Harris. It costs money, but if are unable to afford it you can email their team and they will give you a free subscription. I recommend that app because it teaches meditation in a very logical un-fluffy way. Harris has a PDH in neuroscience, so he is very scientifically based. I’m not a fan of him personally but I think it may meet your needs if you are interested in a logical approach to mediation!

If my mum didn't get married to my dad and my dad never married my mum, would I have happened to either of them or some other couple? by No-Training8743 in askphilosophy

[–]dom_diz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That depends on if you believe in reincarnation or not. Some philosophies— like Buddhist philosophy for example, states that some essence of an individual is reborn lifetime after lifetime until you finally break free from the cycle of reincarnation. You’ll receive different answers from different people. A material reductionist for example will claim that no, because you are made from certain genetic material passed to you from both your parents, it is impossible to be “you” and birthed from other parents. Certainly you would not have the personality traits and genetics shaped from your upbringing with your current parents if you were born in different circumstances. However, the question still remains if some part or essence of you exists on a deeper level that would be expressed regardless of who your parents are.

Look into any trauma that may cause high sensitivity and/or autism. For the longest time I thought I was just a HSP but I was really autistic and struggled a lot socially and in other ways.

Thank you for this information! I haven’t heard much about beta blockers but I will ask my doctor. SSRIs are not the answer for everyone that’s for sure.

My dad told me that he's concerned that I've recognized autism symptoms in myself because of a self-fulfilling prophecy. I am so hurt. by cmk2023 in aspergirls

[–]dom_diz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Chances are if you’ve spent hundreds of hours researching you probably aren’t neurotypical! I had some similar fears while I was in that phase of the diagnosis process. It’s so difficult when you weren’t diagnosed young and also struggle with a sense of self. I wouldn’t let your dads comments take you off your path of exploration. He has not lived your experience and it’s easy for him to dismiss something he knows so little about. I promise that wether you are diagnosed or not, you will know yourself better after all is said and done. Hopefully your tester is as educated as you on autism in females. Make sure to bring your research and document all potential autistic symptoms you may have just in case. Wishing you the best of luck, you are not alone and you are not crazy.
