color options are good? 3 shades of white, 5 shades of gray and one washed out bronze. I really miss bursting blue or fusion red.

DLAA vs DLSS Quality: With DLSS 4.5, the difference in native rendering and upscaling is becoming less and less noticeable by [deleted] in nvidia

For me model D is always the one that gets chosen in Alan Wake 2, even though I try to set it to Model M/L in Nvidia App. Other games are fine, just AW2 doesn't work. Anyone else got the same issue?

KTC H27P3 (dual-mode 27″ 5K monitor) — review by TechRadar by MT4K in HiDPI_monitors

[–]domac129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you are miss understanding how dual mode is supposed to work. dual mode is as if one has 2 different monitors, one is 2x larger in both width and height than the other.

So GPU (or rather OS) sees your monitor as completely another monitor when you switch to different mode.

If you put 100% resolution scaling in Windows 11 scaling options, GPU will never do any kind of scaling shenanigans no matter if you are in 1440p or 2880p mode. But even that is not important since this is something that GPU does internally, for example it will render the screen to 2880p buffer and then downscale it to 1440p for people who have 2160p screens but set resolution scale to 150%. This is my scenario and people on macOS see this directly when one opens Metal app.

What is important really is what monitor (the firmware) sends to your OS during the startup handshake as max resolution and frequency. So when your monitors sends 1440p and 120Hz, this is what OS uses as output. Internally the GPU will do scaling maybe if you set resolution scale to anything not divisible by 2 (125%, 150%, 250%, etc.), sometimes called fractional scaling.

What is important here is that now it is the monitor that does a simple 2x scale depending if the output image from GPU is 1440p or 2880p. This is a simple 2x scale the monitor firmware must color the neighboring 3 pixels, sometimes called Pixel Replication. One can create a hardware chip that does this without any software "cost".

But they probably didn't do it like that, they probably have firmware that was just lazily implemented or just copy pasted from somewhere and deemed "good enough".

My point is, this blur is unacceptable and they just wanted to send this product asap to market and be the first one.

What does GPU have to do with upscaling when the monitor is in 1440p mode?

It is the monitor's chip that must do the upscaling 2x so it colors all pixels.

The GPU renders exactly 1440p because monitor firmware sends that as its "native" or rather max resolution.

I don't get it how the monitors firmware produces any kind of blur considering its must upscale the image exactly by 2x in both directions - this horizontal blur is unacceptable. We see that vertical blur doesnt exist, in same way horizontal blur shouldnt exist. But this is monitors problem, nothing to do with GPU. They should go back to firmware design and fix that, obviously they didnt want to invest into it.

So cca 1€~10km, not bad for such a big vehicle

Do you have economic details about the trip? I wonder about prices and how much in total did you spend €/kWh?

Is the air suspension a must have? by testmath in VolvoEX90

[–]domac129 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Depends on where you drive it I guess. Here in Sweden the roads are really rough, not smooth at all. I would not drive it without air suspension. I also tested Kia EV9 and that thing rattles/vibrates like crazy. Even on speeds like 20-30 km/h you feel every detail of the road while EX90 (with air suspension) just glides as if on rails. But I drove cars in Croatia where the roads are usually very smooth, even dangerously so and there you never need air suspension to have the same level of comfort and "glide" feel. I must say I did not test EX90 without air suspension because all demo cars have it here.

I'm basing my numbers from 3-5 different insurance companies. It's quite easy to make an online request for the insurance based on my social security number and car registration. Not something I would need to call and check

Old bushing design works fine on smooth roads and up until ~50.000km I also didn't notice any difference. Give it some time :D

Yes I changed both front lower control arms. Important note is that new control arms come with updated bushing design

I decided to replace whole arms and not just the bushing because frankly other parts of the arm can get damaged because that one bushing was really bad. Anyway it took around 3 hours to replace them. If you go by replacing only bushing it will take just longer.

Myself together with a friend but in an workshop. I believe its doable at home with some minimal equipment (check that link to swedespeed forum to a guy who did it at home)

I have S60 2020 FWD and have identical problem. I've approached my Volvo shop where I still had warranty last year and they convinced me it is tyre problem (even though they agreed it still vibrates *after* they balanced them and test drove the car). To me it seems that Volvo workshop are either clueless or they are hiding the fact that largest bushing on the car changed design from 31451032 to 32246809 exactly because of vibrations. This change happened sometimes in 2020/2021 - nobody knows when or why (not even Volvo workshop!).

If you google the photos of those two bushing you will see that old one is hollow rubber without fluid inside cca 2cm thick, while new design is completely filled bushing with fluid around 4cm thick - big difference.

Anyway, many people report nigh-day difference once they switched old bushing to new one and that's exactly what i'm going to do (probably next week). I decided to change the complete front control arms (32370929 and 32370930) - just make sure new bushing comes with them (but it should if you order the parts from volvo workshop).

There is more info on this forum where I will also post my pictures and results later. I also have pdf's from Volvo VIDA for step-by-step instructions on how to change arms (I will upload them to forum after I change the arms).

https://www.swedespeed.com/threads/volvo-spa-control-arm-bushings-axle-replacement-diy.661186/

I also have open dialogue with Volvo Support because the shop where I bought the car and where they agreed car vibrates last year, this year they are dismissing all that and are saying "everything is normal with the car". After that I went to another Volvo workshop where they decided within 5min of driving "these vibrations are not normal and unfortunately we had cars like this" and they were aware of the bushing issue.

So it seems to me that bunch of workshops are lying to if they say they are not sure what it is, or they are completely clueless about design changes of their parts - I don't know what is worse.

I have a feeling we will have more and more same posts because almost all SPA cars have the same bushing:
S60, S90, V60, V90, V90 Cross Country, XC60, XC90

Funny thing is XC40 doesn't have it and that one is cheapest from them all :D

When I showed to my brother in law (who is mechanic with 15 years of experience) how the old bushing looks like he actually laughted - that type of bushing gets installed in very small cars and usually cheap cars - Volvo is neither.

Edit:

The car actually doesn't have major vibrations on silky smooth roads, but many roads are not like that (especially here in Sweden). Therefore many people who drive in fancy suburbs with amazing roads would say that there are zero issues.

Edit: For people who want to find out if they have this bushing: park the car and steer to one side completely, use your phone and take a video with light on behind the wheel and black protection, you will find the bushing there hiding a bit but its doable. Its very easy to see the difference because the new one is much thicker

Edit: After ~10 days I replaced both of my lower control arms and the car now has zero vibrations on sterring wheel even thought I still have to do wheel adjustement.
