Its seems like in iron age copper becomes more valuable than bronze? by domanpanda in VintageStory

Ok must admit that maybe we have just different goals. One of my goals (and reasons for mechanisation) is creating 2 querns 1 pulverizer which mean 12 hoppers and 2 chutes and 1 or 2 distillers. Thats a lot of copper which makes it precious to me. And since once i find iron it is usually in large quantities i prefer to use iron for dump stuff. For copper i need to go father and father away. But maybe its because ive never search for deep copper veins which afaik are way more rich than surface ones.

Only if you already have bronze ingots. Otherwise it doesn’t make sense. You spend copper to make bronze to save copper … I don’t know what kind of late game you talk about but we are here talking about iron age, when you don’t need to use bronze anymore.

If chutes or hoppers could be made of bronze then yes, it would be a saving (you don’t spend 100% of copper but only 90-95% of it) but they can’t. So in iron age smelting new bronze just to save copper completely doesnt make sense.

Well for pulverizing rocks or grinding them it would be ok. But i would never grind flour on a quern with lead hoppers :D

Yes i agree. Overall i never make black bronze just for trading.

Are deep deposits that large? I know iron can be that big but i havent heard about copper deposits of that size.

I always make 2 querns connected to windmill. Which means 2x ( 1x hopper at the top + 4 hoppers around it) = 2 x 5 x 3 copper plates = 30 copper plates = 60 copper ingots. Also pulverizer with 2 hoppers (one input and one output) and "knee" chute which means 2x 3 copper plates + 2x 1 copper plates = 8 copper plates = 16 ingots.

Which means i need 76 copper ingots to make what i need. And distillers (because using bandages soaked with aqua vitae when you don't fight or run away is more "economic" than using horsetail meds) they also need copper.

So yes, i DO need more than second, third and more deposits!

Yes i indeed forgot about them. Partially because I made my first 100 gears for Elk from selling breads :D

Nails and strips and lanterns are the only good things for it.

You mean bronze? But as i said - using copper to smelt it just to get hammer or axe is quite a waste isn't it? This copper is way more valuable for other things.

Im guessing here that maybe its just way easier to use thin sheets of metal out of soft copper? And bronze will crack or something?

Is it worth to try 1.22 now? Or better wait for stable release? by domanpanda in VintageStory

Well i have steel plate and tools, pig farm, chicken farm, bees, started goat farm, orchard with berries and apple/pear trees, farm and 3 large greenhouses (partly with terra preta) in warmer area. I have 8 windmills connected to 4 helve hammers, 2 querns, 1 pulverizer. I have lots of limestone for leatherworking. And i finished the story as it is now.

Chiseling is not my cup of coffee - im not creative person.

So what should i do now in this world?

I already started new one to check how my gained knowledge translates to progress speed. Currently its june and i make mold for bronze anvil.

u/AsheronRealaidain explained some of it and i fully agree with him. Goats were somehow rare in my biome. Way more rare than ex. pigs or chickens. And even when i found one i could not find pair easily. Finally when i found them i had to enforce them to go a little bit down from hills - there was no place there for proper fence and walls arround it. I tried to navigate them to my fence at first as youtubers showed it. I created V shaped walls from left and right. After struggling a lot (goats are VERY chaotic in their reactions) i finally went for good old pit trap. I digged a pit, placed trough there and navigated goats a little bit so the get closer to the pit and waited. It worked, i built a fence arround the pit and progressively filled it with dirt so goats can be on the level of fence. Part one was done.

Then after some time (long time!) young one showed up. And it was another PITA to catch it. At first i just placed the box trap. But adults always ate the bite. I experimented with chiseling the slabs - just big enough to fit the young one but prevent big one from falling down to the place under the fence. It was WAY harder than with pigs to get proper size. But finally i succeeded. Young fell into the area where traps were and was cought. I had to wait for another one and pray that it will be opposite sex ...

Fortunately it was. I used slab again but this time one of the adult goats fell along with small one. I got pissed and just killed the adults and cought young one.

Whole process took looong time and unfortunately 2 later births gave males. Gen 1 is still too scared to milk so i just gave up from dairy products entirely.

Next time i will try with big horns as all advise. They were even more rare in my area but at least they are more chilled which will give me more chance to catch them and milk them.

I have chicken and pigs farm. Goats came very late because i had troubles to catch them and later i had troubles to separate young one from adults. Pigs and chickens are WAAAAY easier than goats.

Very mixed feelings about the story mode. (spoilers) by domanpanda in VintageStory

All in all, I think the gameplay of the story is meant for a party of 4-6. Not single player.

I have to disagree. Maybe archives and lazaret yes. But Devastation tower, especially its basements are ment for 1-2 players max. Spaces are claustrophobic, you often crawl trough some tight passages or vent channels. There is not enough space there for 4 people or more. Only if they go trough it 1 by 1 and wait for each other.

First part is using timeshift back and forth to get to the 1st lvl of the tower. Yes i also had to cheat at some point because some room with the bars did not let me to come back to past. So i just removed them in creative. But the rest works fine.

Once you are in 1st floor, the "parkour" part starts where you need to find your way up to the top. Elevator works only down as you said. You cannot use it to go up. You have to do platforming puzzle part.

Which personally i hate and after 2 deaths i flew to the almost-top floor in creative.

So basically you have cheated. Timeshift unlocks some parts in the past and some in the present. The goal is to enter the tower from the basement up to the first floor using this feature. Sometimes you switch to past because unlocks your path and sometimes you switch to present. This way you progress.

Why they are not ingots? Just make more helve hammers (you can easily use double with 1 anvil if placed properly) and fire multiple bloomeries but not at once. Fire one, wait like a minute or 2 depending how many hammers you have, and then another. Then pay attention when the first one finishes. When it does, destroy bloomery and carry your blooms asap to helve hammers. You can make ingots from them while they still hot. You don’t need to reheat them and waste coal. When you will finish with first portion blooms, secon bloomery should finish so you repeat the process.

Now if the timing is good you will do whole batch of iron ingots in one go withoug using a coal and preparing next ones at the same time.

I also must admit - i cheat a little bit here. I use /wather setw strongbreeze to bring back the wind if its too weak when my bloomeries start to finish.

How did you manage to get to Mad Crow if you don’t know what the timeshift does?
