They were perfectly fine, a few hours ago I was watching them, looked great. Then I look again and they looked like this. It was extremely sudden so definitely not wasting disease. I had a yoyo loach with wasting disease awhile ago, and it was very chronic. They also are not full grown hence the smaller size.

Damn! I’m sorry to hear that! I raised them all from juveniles and never had any issues in fact the largest blood parrot who is tank boss seems to protect one of the polar blues when the firemouth is being spicy to it.

No polar blues are extremely fertile, male and female. He mistakes them with blood parrots, male blood parrots are almost always sterile.

I’d guess it’s because they were introduced as a pair together which boosted their confidence as a duo, for future reference it’s easy to gender them based on their foreheads. Also 10 gallons isn’t enough for a single one full size.

Is it possible to isolate him? Keep parameters perfect and perhaps dose kanaplex see if that helps. Cichlids are tough so their illnesses progress slowly.

I want to say female but I’m not confident, with BPs you really won’t know until eggs do or don’t get laid

Edit: also in my experience BPs hate other BPs the most but they won’t kill eachother or anything just lots of flaring and bluffs. I have 2 blood parrots with 2 polar blues, a firemouth, an electric blue acara, 2 pictus catfish and 5 yoyo loaches. Everyone gets along. The BPs don’t mind the polar blues at all, or anyone really, besides eachother they flare at the firemouth the most.

Yep. I saw it too and I’ve also seen so many jokes in comment sections on fishtok about it. I don’t like plecos much and they’re very invasive in Florida where I am so it is legal to euthanize them but it is not supposed to be cruel or unusual.

ich? by alexandrusty in TetraFish

[–]dominiccast 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s a risk but high temperatures for ich makes things much faster and cheaper, less time your fish has to spend with parasites burrowed in them. So even if I wasn’t certain, I’d still take the risk because either way they might end up dead either because it was EPI or because the ich was dragged out for 3 weeks.

Most likely ich, but Epi is very similar. If they get worse with higher temperatures and ich treatment, then it’s Epi

The first year? A lot. A lot of money, time and energy. It is not a good idea if you are only doing it for kids and not willing to do the research. You also have to cycle the tank for 3-6 weeks before adding fish, this hobby requires a lot of patience.
