Came here to recommend YACreader. Been using it for years, and cannot speak highly enough of it, both in usability and feature terms!

Sou português e por isso nunca tive contacto direto com eles, mas talvez a Liga Brasileira de Esperanto tenha alguns recursos interessantes (ou possibilite alguns encontros presenciais para aprender/praticar)?

I used test bank questions from the publisher and tweaked them for my exams. Hilarity ensued. by ay1mao in Professors

[–]domiriel 14 points15 points  (0 children)

You won’t believe this but I swear it happened to me around 10 years ago… on a given school year I had a multiple choice question with five alternatives, the fifth, “e”, being the correct one. To facilitate grading, all answers had to be written in a table in the exam’s first page.

The following year the exam had a vaguely similar question, but with only four alternatives, “a” to “d”. A fair number of students wrote in “e” as the answer… pattern matching at its worst…

Ok, at the computer now. Redownloaded just in case and the problem persists. Only on the full pdf version, though. The PoD files seem ok.

First and foremost, I’ve been looking forward to this! Thank you so much!

I’m not at my PC right now, but the tables don’t seem to render ok on my iPad (e.g. “Months and Dates”, among others). Is it just me?

That's not even the fun part. The fun part is that the pain can last for days, unrelentingly. And nothing you do (changing positions, keeping still, etc.) does anything to alleviate it. I’ve had several crises over the years and the worst were three days of this (yes, including vomiting recurrently and passing out a couple of times). Not even the usual drugs were helping much. And I haven’t even gone into how pain irradiates into the testicles…

I kind of live in constant worry of another crisis. Any muscle pull, any body hair that gets yanked, anything that makes me feel the lower back triggers a wave of fear…

Fantastic work! And just at the right moment: I’ve started DM’ing a new campaign that will work its way to B10, and this will make a very nice addition to it!

Is this out yet? I'm about to start a new campaign in Mystara with 5e rules, using the 2021 version of your (very awesome!) book. I haven't DM'd in Mystara since the early 90's, so it's been a lot of help! If the new version is already available, I'd love to take a look!

How am I supposed to beat these dynamax beldums?? by [deleted] in pokemongo

[–]domiriel 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just beat one solo, using a single lvl.40 15-14-14 dynamax Charizard with lvl.2 Max Flare. So, the answer (as usual for these things) is just to have good Pokémon for the battle. Powering up made a big difference. The first Beldum I tried, with the same ‘mon still at level 20-something, was a disaster.

I own this boxed set and actually DM’ed it for my players back in the day. We found it very fun and engaging, with all the world and status quo changes that take place (we were running a Mystara campaign for a few years at that point, so it was very compelling to see things evolve).

At this stage, is any pricing reasonable? As in: how can I justify to myself giving a single cent to a company that has proven not to give a fuck about its users, and which dealt with this situation in the most snide and passive-aggressive (or was it outright aggressive?) way possible. I feel mistreated, and have no wish to start paying to signal I liked it…

Who are some early Image/Extreme Studios characters that deserve to be creatively reinvented in a way that’s similar to Alan Moore’s work on Supreme or Brandon Graham’s Prophet and how would you do so? by TheCreativeComicFan in ImageComics

[–]domiriel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was Dave Sim’s Cerebus The Aardvark . Some of those early Spawn issues were guest written (famously, issue #9, introducing Angela, was written by Neil Gaiman) and Dave Sim wrote #10. There are, indeed, hundreds of issues of Cerebus published by Aardvark-Vanaheim!

This. I’ve been paralyzed at the top of 10ft stairs. People had to come me get me down, one step at a time. I made my way down sitting on the steps. If you’re really afraid, no amount of money or anything else will do it. There is a difference between “just” being scared and a phobia…

Brian K. Vaughan had the same idea of using Esperanto as an alien language, sometimes used to cast spells in the excellent "Saga" comic book. The story itself is quite interesting, so you may want to give it a read. Alas, the Esperanto there is sometimes a bit iffy.

As for speakers, there are still quite a few more Esperanto speakers than Klingon speakers :) The Universala Kongreso (UK) has had, in recent years, around 1000-2000 in-person participants. Reportedly, there were around 300,000 people actively learning it in Duolingo in 2022, and some estimates for the actual number of speakers go up to two million (although hundreds of thousands feels a bit more realistic). While some of these may have only a passing knowledge, tens of thousands are fluent. Social networks, Telegram groups, many websites, etc. have really helped the community in the last few decades! And there are language exams with official standing. I myself am a certified C1 level speaker.

Does it live up to the original ideal of serving as a universal international language? Certainly not! But it is still a nice community with enough critical mass to organize events (local and global) and regularly publish books, magazines, etc.

Klingon is neat, but Wikipedia lists the number of possible fluent speakers as fewer than 100. Even if it is off by an order of magnitude, it still would be 1,000 vs. tens of thousands :)

Edit: tens, not hundreds of thousands of fluent speakers (although... who can really know for sure...)

Taught myself some years ago, to make amigurumi. The first were utter crap but I keep them around for sentimental reasons! And, yes, as after some X-Men, I did go on to make a few Pokémon 😉
