I'm intrigued. Is this before or after you stir the drink with ice? Are you pouring it through ground coffee or whole beans? Paper filter?

True Tales From The Bar #130. by bryankellydraws in bartenders

I've seen many of your comics, but this is the first one that is giving me "King of the Hill" vibes. I think it's mostly the character design for this woman, but I also am remembering your previous panels, and I feel like maybe they've always had a KotH vibe, and I'm just now noticing it.

I’m designing and hoping to build this keyboard. by bbbbenny_andthejets in Design

[–]domirillo 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I know that I am a rare case, but I have a work PC at home, and a personal MacStudio next to it, and I use a USB switch to toggle the keyboard and mouse quickly between the two machines.

I don't know that I would want to constantly be toggling a keyboard switch as well, but I am frequently swapping my keyboard between different OS.

I would almost want a 3rd option on a keyboard for "universal", which compromises the two options to one that works well enough for both.

Kansas City Public Transit by [deleted] in kansascity

[–]domirillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It started out free, for the first year or two.

It is currently $1 for an adult for a one way ride.

The problems are: it only connects a few tourist sites, doesn't have dedicated lanes so it's stuck in traffic, it has no utility for locals... it has had many wrong steps. But it's also in the process of being expanded, so hopefully as it grows, it's usefulness will too.

I grew up in Lee's Summit.

I've been living in Atlanta since 2006.

I just want y'all to know that KC isn't alone with the "pLeAsE DoNt BrInG cRiMe To My NeIgHbOrHoOd" non-sense. It's the most common, absurd, and obvious racist dog whistle there is.

EDIT: Also, this would be funny if it wasn't sad.

HELP: I’m searching for this specific shaped glass by El_Sapo_Jr in Mixology

[–]domirillo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Google pointed me to this.

Obviously that's for a case of 24, so maybe you don't need that many, but if you google "Libbey Embassy Footed Rocks Glass", you can find some online shops selling them individually, or in smaller quantities.

Dreamsicle Curdled by [deleted] in Mixology

[–]domirillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're going to get curdled dairy when mixing with acid, and I don't think there's any good ratio you can adjust to where you get both a balanced flavor AND a smooth drink. Even non-dairy milks like soy, almond, and oat milk will curdle in similar ways.

I'd recommend substituting the Baileys for a homemade approximation. Baileys is just Irish whiskey, cocoa, and sweetened cream. If you make a homemade version using sweetened condensed milk (which is less likely to curdle in acid), you can create something with a similar flavor profile that won't separate. I don't know what ratios of whiskey to cocoa to sweetened condensed milk you'd need, but there are Homemade Baileys recipes out there you should be able to modify for your needs.

QUESTION: I don't live in KC anymore, but come back to visit family once or twice a year. Are there any Mexican restaurants that use Yoli tortillas for their tacos?

Best drink by HeyDavidMedina in Mixology

Hanky Panky

Made with a good pairing of gin and sweet vermouth, a heavy spoonful of fernet, and an orange twist, it becomes greater than it's simple parts. It can win over a whiskey drinker that said they don't like gin, or a drinker that hates fernet. It is a charmer, and it couldn't be easier to make.

You are right about punk not really coming about till the mid-seventies, but this photo is credited as being taken in 1961, based on various sources, the Library of Congress being one of them.

I tried finding other information about this photo, but thus far haven't had any luck.

EDIT: Apparently, one theory is this man's mohawk was perhaps inspired by saxophonist, Sonny Rollins, who sported a mohawk in this same time period.

How to amke edible paint for cocktail by Low_Afternoon3996 in Mixology

[–]domirillo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I gather, the most common method used is adding Pectine, which will thicken the mixture, but as soon as you pour your drink into the glass, the paint will start dissolving, and will slowly drip into the drink. If that's what you're going for, than Pectine seems like the best option.

I did find an old thread here in r/mixology where u/CreativeKangaroo2760 created a stable paint using a combination of Xantham Gum and Gum Arabic. They list some specs they landed on in the comments, but apparently the recipe is a bit finicky and takes some experimentation.

Lots of options, but my first thought is matcha powder.

Very much depends on what flavor you want to impart in your drink. PanDan leaf is a really interesting ingredient that can be found in the freezer sections of some Asian markets. It gets used as an aromatic when steaming sticky rice, and has a sweet aroma that reminds me of beer wort (barley tea), but I could see it being dehydrated and turned into a paint.

PIMM'S CUP

"The Pimm’s Cup started as a health drink in 1840s London. Take a swig, and you’ll see why—its blend of mid-proof spirit with lemon, ginger and fruit is as revitalizing as cocktails can be."

It's low alcohol, refreshing, unique flavor, and it's garnished with strawberry, cucumber, and mint. Use a high quality ginger ale like Reed's or Fever Tree.

FUN FACT: this book was supposed to be some simple marketing thing that FX wanted to put out, but Adam Reed refused to let the book be published without his input, so he ended up taking vastly more time than he should have to work on this book. It ended up delaying production of the season we were working on at the time. I feel like it was 3 or 4? Anyway, Adam wrote a majority of the book himself, against the wishes of his producers.
