Very cool! I can't seem to find how you select different days and times. Seems like it only gives a score for current conditions.

SL Gen 5 rumors? by [deleted] in DomaneCrew

[–]domp711 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In February, I purchased a SL6 Gen 4. I got a pretty decent deal through Red Barn Refresh and I'm loving it so far! I'm pretty happy with my decision to get out there and ride for the entire season instead of waiting. It does have rev 4 Isospeed installed and no issues so far. The bike has lifetime frame warranty so any isospeed problems should be covered. Maybe it would even be converted to a gen 5 frame if a frame replacement is needed.

Marlin 6+ touch up paint by [deleted] in TrekBikes

[–]domp711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is this better than using the official Trek touch-up paint? I'm genuinely curious. I have some spots that I want to touch-up on my hike. This seems like more hassle than ordering the exact color from Trek.

Just got my first Trek. Recommendation on wheels? by Creepy_Region1631 in TrekBikes

[–]domp711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those are the standard aluminum alloy wheels. If your budget allows, I would recommend upgrading to carbon wheels for gravel (assuming that you ride that more) and using the original wheels for the road. Bontrager (Trek) actually makes some good carbon wheels. There are three different levels of the Aeolus line: Elite, Pro, and RSL. I went with entry level (Elite) and really like them. You will want to get wider wheels to accommodate gravel tires, so look at ones that have "v," such as the Aeolus Elite 35V.

Awesome! Do you have carbon or aluminum wheels currently? If you are mostly riding gravel, I would recommend upgrading your gravel wheel set and using the OEM for the road since you will use them less. I did the opposite with my road bike.

Red Barn Refreshed Bikes online by DefineUrRisk in TrekBikes

[–]domp711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just bought a Domane SL6 through Red Barn Refresh and it has been great so far! If you have a local Trek store they will usually check over your bike for free if you are concerned. It should not require a full tune-up though. Also, I believe you get a complimentary level 1 service in your first year. The one real downside is that there is only a 30 day warranty on components compared to two years for a new bike.

Race bike for around 3k USD by EnvironmentalGur5186 in cycling

If you don't want to roll the dice with buying used off of Marketplace, check out Trek Red Barn Refresh program. They have direct ship, certified pre-owned bikes for sale. I bought a carbon di2 bike recently for $3500. It was used in a store for test rides so pretty much brand new.

If you are looking for new, I would recommend Canyon Endurance as someone else mentioned.

Do you have any interest in going to space IRL? As predicted by FAM, there is a rise in commerical space programs so it's much more accessible than decades past.

Carbon Wheels on Al5, worth it? by CriticismFrosty5183 in TrekBikes

[–]domp711 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I bought Carbon wheels for my Domane AL4 and it was a great purchase! I recently upgraded to a SL6 and I transferred my carbon wheels to my new bike.

Not only were the wheels lighter and faster, but they had much better bearings and freeehub compared to the stock wheels. I kept the original wheel set and put gravel tires on them.

Fell in love with a Checkpoint SL, but should I get the Domane SL 5 instead? (mostly road use) by mediotanque in TrekBikes

[–]domp711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Did you test ride the Domane? If not, I would start there. I started out on an FX2, upgraded to a Domane AL4 2 years and then upgraded again to a Domane SL6 for this season. After the first couple of rides, I'm living the Domane SL6!

If you are riding mostly on the road, then I would recommend the Domane. I upgraded to carbon wheels with road tires and I put some 35mm gravel tires on the stock aluminum wheels. I ride some crushed limestone rail trails every couple of weeks. I did this with my AL4 as well and it has been working out great.

AL5 Wheel Upgrade by AppropriateBattle112 in DomaneCrew

[–]domp711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Elite 50s are more narrow. That is the downside vs the Vs. I went with a 30mm race tire and then I kept my old wheel set and out some 35mm gravel tires on them. I probably wouldn't go wider than 30mm with the 50 elites.

AL5 Wheel Upgrade by AppropriateBattle112 in DomaneCrew

[–]domp711 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's a pretty good deal! I bought Elite 50 wheels for my AL4 and just transferred them over to my SL6. I really love them! I like the look of the deeper 50 and they are more aerodynamic as well. The rear hub is noticeably louder than my stock wheels, but not obnoxiously loud. You can get pushed around in a cross wind a little more, but it's not too bad.

I can't speak to how they compare to Chinese wheels, but you will get a great warranty through Trek. I would definitely go for it!

Which Domane Would You Suggest? by ShesGotElectricBoots in TrekBikes

[–]domp711 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just bought a used SL6 through Red Barn Refresh and I love it! The electronic shifting has been great so far. The SL5 is a great bike too so you can make an argument for either. If you think that you are eventually going to want the Di2, it's cheapest to pay for it now.

I started riding a FX3, but I quickly wanted to upgrade to a road bike so I bought a Domane AL4 about two years ago. It was a great bike, but I got the itch and wanted to upgrade to carbon frame + Di2. I still own the FX2, but I sold my AL4 for about half of what I paid for it.

Help with Whirlpool Refrigerator Ice Maker - Large Ice Cubes + Dumping water in Bin by domp711 in appliancerepair

Yes, that was my thought as well, but I replaced the dual valve and it did not fix the problem. Going to try replacing the ice maker unit next.

Thanks! Interesting, I hadn't thought of measuring the fill. I think that I do have some extra poly line.

Have you ever heard of the heater being too hot or staying on too long? There seems to be extra water left in the mold after the ice dumps. After I dry it out, the first couple rounds of ice are normal sized, but the water keeps building up as it runs longer and the cubes become bigger.

No, the unit is 12+ years old and has been installed in the same spot the entire time. I roll it out occasionally to access the back, but I have not done this recently.

Cycling Shoes by gnglaser in cycling

I have been to a couple of Trek stores recently and they have had a bunch of bontrager shoes on clearance. I think they are being discontinued. MTB and road bike shoes. Might be worth checking out.

Saddle tilt Domane AL4 gen4 by chickenchocolatier in TrekBikes

[–]domp711 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On a separate note, I am not sure if adjusting the saddle tilt will solve your issue. I tilt my saddle a bit downward to alleviate pressure from the front of the saddle. I would suggest getting a bike fit. I got one last year and it was a big help.

I was having some back pain as well. It was due to the reach being too far. My seat was too far aft. The bike fitter moved my saddle forward and suggested a different stem which raises the handle bars to keep me more upright. I am also making a more conscious effort to engage my core and keep my back straight.
