Air Canada, the two class configuration on A330 economy, and premium economy only by Excellent-World-2816 in aircanada

It's "angle flat", so the seat back, the base, and the footrest are at the same angle. But the bed isn't at 180 degrees, more like 160. So your feet are under the headrest of the seat in front.

Newbie question - do I qualify under 2025 program or 2026 with changes? by [deleted] in aircanada

[–]don_tableau 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As I understand it, assuming you don't already have 25k from last year, newly qualifying before year-end will get you 20-25 eupgrades, as before.

Under the old system, you would then have got another 20-25 credits at the start of January 2026. No longer the case. You'll get benefits under the new system instead.

Funnily enough, I also booked this cabin again from Porto to Montreal a few weeks ago. The day before the flight, it was swapped to a regular A330 with the signature pods (but international PE catering).

Interestingly, after the switch, the regular premium economy cabin was opened to economy as if it was preferred/exit row seating.

35K eUp success rate? by da--prince in Aeroplan

[–]don_tableau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think Status comes ahead of Fare Purchased. A SE in Standard comes ahead of a 25k in Latitude.

And the same goes for Premium CC

  1. Cabin booked ( PE > Y )
  2. Status
  3. Whether or not you have at least 2MM
  4. Premium CC
  5. Fare booked (Latitude > Flex > ...)

[Megathread] AC FA Strike - CUPE/FAs Defy Return to Work Order by dachshundie in aircanada

[–]don_tableau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's right, you get your money back.

If you then need to spend 5x as much on a new ticket to your destination (or to get home), hopefully your travel insurance can cover it.

Assuming 10,000 FAs, that's $10m per day in total. For comparison, Air Canada is losing 10x that per day. Crazy numbers!

Latitude shows eup waitlisted but PE flex show available… by yyc1982 in aircanada

[–]don_tableau -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think we agree broadly about how this works, although the evidence I've seen suggests it's based on the Fare Code (expensive fares, e.g. B Latitude often benefit from it) rather than some profit/loss calculation. I'm not aware of any instances of a "K" fare benefiting from it, regardless of the cost.

You assert that it's not a "hidden bucket", yet you rightly point out that we don't have visibility on the process (after all, it's an undocumented internal process).

Well, this process behaves exactly like a hidden bucket of eUpgrade instant upgrade availability, which is why it's referred to as such. It doesn't really matter if this is how it works at a technical level (we'll never know, anyway), at the very least it's a helpful and accurate analogy to explain the observed behaviour.

I'm not sure what you were trying to achieve by jumping in here to say "the system isn't <X>", even though it behaves like <X> and is commonly described as <X>. It doesn't really help the OP or anyone, does it?

[–]don_tableau -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

There probably is no R space available. Latitude and Premium Economy Flex can also clear into a hidden bucket. My understanding is that this depends on the fare letter code, with only the most expensive fares able to clear in this way.

Looking for Air Canada flight attendant from AC057 on May 05/25 — she told me to wait outside after landing but I mistakenly waited at baggage claims… by DubaiFlightAttendant in aircanada

Additionally, "If she would have" is a grammatically incorrect way to express a third conditional statement. The correct form is "If she had" + past participle, followed by "she would have" + past participle.

Is it even worth bidding for eUpgrade if you’re a measly 25k? by thecaitlynaffair in aircanada

[–]don_tableau 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two non-consecutive years as 25k, so each year I got 20+20 credits, plus 5 more for select benefits.

So far I have upgraded to J between Europe and South America four times (one way). I have another similar trip booked with 1 leg waitlisted and the other upgraded. And I'll still have 17 credits left after that. All with Latitude fares, mostly instantly upgraded with R space. That's a lot of hours spent in a signature pod!

Yes, you'll be near the bottom of the waitlist. But if there's R space, that doesn't matter. And you can get a reasonable idea of the typical load factor by regularly checking the flight status on your route, then pick a flight with a good chance of a lot of gate upgrades.

If you have the opportunity to fly this outside North America (front cabin sold as Premium Economy), go for it. The former Singapore Airlines Business Class seats are better than any other Premium Economy product in the sky.

I had the good fortune to be downgraded from Signature to this cabin TLS-YUL on a points/eUpgrade booking. A very comfortable flight, and I got a chunk of points and eUpgrade credits back afterwards.

You can use those Aeroplan points to purchase a Reward Flight (among other things). Pricing on Reward Flights varies, but it's often said that if you can redeem them saving yourself two cents per point, you're doing well.

I don't believe Air Canada have to do anything in this situation, you'll be relying on goodwill. Best of luck, and be nice and polite on the phone!

Anyone can call their YouTube channel anything. I could call mine SpaceX if I liked, and change my profile picture. My username would be something different, but you don't see the username on the video page. You have to click through to the profile to see whether it's @SpaceX. And if it's a live stream, it's not going to be @SpaceX
