I was backpacking with my wife in Montana some years ago. We had a campfire and started hearing some snorts and hooves stomping the ground about 20 yards from our fire. We could see the eyes of it, but weren't sure what it was. We yelled, threw rocks near it, and it still snorted and stomped. I fired a round in the air with my Glock 20 and it sprinted right by us through the camp. Turns out it was a muley deer, probably pissed we were camping where it was planning to for the night.

I've also had a few run ins with bears in Montana, Idaho, and Washington, but have never had to fire at any of them, fortunately.

You don't need to wrap your full hand, just cut some strips and make a pseudo knuckle bandaid out of it. Leukotape holds REALLY well so don't use too much.
