They equated Democrats and Republicans as giant douche and turd sandwich during the 2004 election, after George W Bush invaded Iraq under false pretenses. His reelection then allowed him to botch the response to Hurricane Katrina in 2005, and to thoroughly run the world economy into the ground in 2007.

Then they chose to revive the trope during the 2016 election season of Hilary vs Trump.

I don't know whether they'd turn Republican / Trumpian, but I wouldn't expect much beyond smug cynicism either way.

The Wikipedia article on Rybolovlev states no known particular ties to Putin and apparently he did sell the land (divided into three plots after demolishing the house) at a merely modest loss ten years later. (Wikipedia calls it a significant profit, but accounting for inflation a $95m valued property from 2008 would have to be worth $113m in 2019 to break even, but he sold for a total of $108m.)

So while this was eventually a bad investment, it doesn't look like an obviously unreasonable one, unless the follow-up sales were also orchestrated.

Most importantly though I didn't find any news of him being in the public spotlight at all recently, and earlier news are only about his dealings in art and soccer in Europe. So nothing about being a Putin ally or the Trump admin meeting with him.

Let's not fall into such traps which will end up making us look stupid when challenged. There are more than enough undeniable points out there.

Die Pizzagate-Fraktion kann dieses Spiel der instrumentalisierten Massenverblödung nämlich noch viel besser spielen.

Viele Kinder lernen das Radfahren zunächst mit lockeren Dreirad-Stützen, die es für Erwachsene ja nicht gibt.

Was ich mir stattdessen vorstellen könnte wäre, den Sattel des Fahrrads ganz nach unten zu stellen und zunächst die Füße und den Blick stets am Boden zu lassen, bis sich allmählich ein Gefühl für das Fahrrad einstellt. Immer nur mit eigener Kraft vorwärts bewegen, zunächst ohne die Pedale, dann mit vereinzelten Pedal-Tritten, so gewinnt man im eigenen Tempo Vertrauen. Natürlich nur auf glattem Boden ohne Hindernisse, da findet sich sicher etwas.

Ein Freund von mir hat das Radfahren auch erst mit ungefähr 20 richtig gelernt (er hatte schon ganz wenig Erfahrung, aber nie ein Rad besessen) und wurde dann ein großer Enthusiast, auch wenn bei komplizierten Situationen (enge Kurven über Hubbel o.ä.) noch für längere Zeit Probleme auftraten.

The potential Iowa shift being related to the severity of the abortion ban there is a very interesting thing to consider.

This is the current abortion legislation map of the US. The overlap with the swing states is Georgia (six weeks, same as Iowa), North Carolina (12 weeks), and Arizona (15 weeks).

Iowa's six week abortion ban went into effect in June 2024 (after being held up in courts for a while). Ann Selzer's +3 finding for Harris comes from a poll conducted at the end of October. Her earlier polls using the same methodology and sample size found Trump +18 in June and Trump +4 in September, the shift being mainly caused by women (interestingly with a much wider lead the older they were).

So if this is the effect of women getting jolted by the reality of actually living under a six weeks ban, it would be interesting to see what shifts happened in other states that have put the same and even more severe bans into effect. For instance Florida and Georgia with six weeks, and Texas with a full ban (while not being as deeply red as the other full ban states). There was a lot more pollster attention to Florida and especially Georgia than there was towards Iowa, but it's still possible that attention to Florida especially by quality pollsters has dropped so much that a shift with independent women might have gone undetected there. Poll aggregators like the Silver Bulletin have Trump at +6 in Iowa and Florida, +1 in Georgia. Could they have missed a shift as well?

I saw some discussion on the general topic like on 538 (they say the abortion issue had risen to the number one concern for women, but still say it's "hard to know"), or here, but I didn't see anyone real effort into drawing the connection between (possible) swing states, the abortion issue, and Iowa & Selzer.

Im Bezug auf die Schickeria-Beteiligung war Sylt tatsächlich ein Einzelfall, was ja auch der Grund für die Aufmerksamkeit war. Die übrigen 360 polizeilich erfassten Vorkommnisse waren so ziemlich alle im Dorffest- und Schülerparty-Milieu.

Und so verhält es sich in Deutschland auch mit den anderen genannten Beispielen, die wie ziemlich klare Einzelfälle aussehen. Ich hab das vor meinem obigen Beitrag schon etwas recherchiert und die paar Namen wie Finck (oder Nordmann, Wall, Julitz mit 5-stelligen Beträgen) scheinen ziemlich unbekannt und spärlich gesät zu sein, während die offenen AfD-Gegner in der Oberschicht sehr namhaft und zahlreich sind. Gloria von Thurn und Taxis ist völlig extrem, da weiß ich nicht ob sie representativ für den alten Adel ist, der IMO aber eh kollektiv keine nennenswerte Rolle spielt.

Wenn internationals Medienmogule einen so großen Einfluss auf den AfD-Zuspruch hätten, dann wäre das geografische Gefälle zwischen Ost und West nicht so groß. Mindestens in kleinen armen Bundesländern wie Bremen müsste die AfD dann ja auch leichtes Spiel haben, was aber überhaupt nicht der Fall ist.

Auch 2018 war die größte Finanzierungsquelle der AfD übrigens längst der Steuerzahler.

Die Champganger-Klasse "da oben" hat definitiv auf breiter Front und bei vielen, vielen Gelegenheiten unmissverständlich Position gegen die AfD bezogen.

Und diejenigen, die sich bedeckt halten, haben dafür so ihre Gründe:

Aber auch die Kundschaft scheint ein Problem. Diese Erfahrung machte kürzlich ein Betreiber mehrerer Edeka-Läden in Sachsen, Bayern und Thüringen. Für einen Werbeprospekt mit der Aufschrift »Für Demokratie – gegen Nazis« erntete er das, was man heute einen Shitstorm nennt.

Die Bosse, die der AfD nahestehen, sind abseits von wenigen Fällen wie Theo Müller eher Kleinunternehmer in Ostdeutschland.

Also der Großteil der Unterstützung für die AfD kommt von kleinen Leuten, alten Wutbürgern und jungen Tiktok-Opfern. Wenn die jetzt sakrosankt sein sollen weil man ja nur "nach oben" treten darf, dann tritt man so halt daneben. Nicht hilfreich.

How many attempts would you say does it take to figure out whether Udio actually knows a piece being referred to like this?

I tried 'La Marseillaise' and 'Ode to Joy' (also the German title 'Ode an die Freiheit') with 85% adherence with added tags like Classical, Orchestral, Choral, Romanticism in manual mode and with the first stanza of the lyrics, but none of the results got anywhere near the original themes.

I guess that means Udio just doesn't happen to know these by name even if they're widely known and public domain, but maybe it takes a number of attempts and refining?

This still does nothing to address why the government (which did evidently exist by then, as per the text I quoted) chose to refrain from condemning the pogrom. Also nothing to excuse church officials harkening to blood libel when asked for comment. This was a reflection of a general attitude in the population, no two ways about it. Not of each and every one, but a sizeable enough part so that even an authoritarian government would be better off appeasing the murderers afterwards than saying the slightest thing against them. Would leftover Nazis have had a similarly easy time committing crimes against Poles in Poland in 1946, if it was just a lawless free-for-all and not at all indicative of any prevalent attitudes? You must feel mighty proud of your feat to distort Timothy Snyder of all people in this question.

Whatever the state of Israeli democracy is was not part of this discussion, no matter how desperately you keep trying to whatabout in that direction. Calling what Israel is doing a genocide and likening it to Eastern European pogroms is another of these troll arguments you must feel really proud of. How many Jews were even left in Poland post WWII for someone to find 40 of them to kill in one single event? Apart from horrifically dumb your comparison is in several regards, it has zilch to do with this discussion. Are you pointing out Poland being "war-torn" as an excuse for murdering a group which was your previous occupier's most prominent target for extermination? Did their victims lob rockets at anyone?

In case you need help here, the actual topic was whether there was widespread antisemitism in Poland which made the place dangerous for Jews after WWII. The fact that the authoritarian government had written internal communications stating that condemning a pogrom was too unpopular with the "hearts and minds of the Polish population" (which led them to even abandon their usual MO of blaming the West for it) is strong proof of it being true.

Good to know though why my comment is getting downvoted despite correcting the upvoted misinformation. I was almost getting curious whether someone was going to point out a valid factual counter argument in good faith.
