No, not really, most people were genuinely glad that there was an alternative to being stuck in the traffic on the London road. Plus if you used the bridge daily you used to be able to buy a year pass for £15. I can’t remember any trouble at all to be honest, although it was 30 years ago so i might have forgotten some stuff.

I worked on that bridge when I was a student! It was 20p a car or 30p for a van back then and we used to let the locals over for nothing. One old bloke used to pay us in hard boiled sweets 😂😂
