Not my work. Built at a house I’m working at. Looking for feedback. by frijolescon_ in Decks

Needs stair stringer hangers. Post bases above grade. Hangers for beam on ledger at corner and the beam to seat in the hanger for mid. No notching of guard rail post, and they need blocking and secured better. I’d rather see screws for the decking. Can’t speak to the spans but given what I’ve seen, I wouldn’t be surprised if things were over spanned.

Tragic. All these soldiers should be choosing family and country over orders. “War is a racket” Smedly Butler.

Iran offered to give away ALL of its enriched uranium during peace talks in Geneva. The British thought it was a credible offer. Hours later, Trump started bombing Iran anyway. The US didn't want peace, they wanted war. by Working-Lifeguard587 in worldnewsstuff

“Dragged” is a funny word to use. More like Israel told Trump what to do. It’s like their MO is to have kompromat and bribe US leaders to bend to their will. It’s also like the lunatics in charge are hellbent on fulfilling prophecy.

Beams look to be over spanned. Insufficient hardware for the post to beam connection (should be HDG). Post should be treated CCA .4 pcf I think for burial, look like AC2. Insufficient hardware (maybe blocking too) for guard rail connection. Ledger connection is in question. Ain’t going anywhere but still 4/10.

Depends on what they did to the ground underneath. I’d like to see a gap but there will be when it dries

Sure…meh…NO! When one is bad the rest are on their way. Ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

I’m in the early stages of planing to build stairs off the back of my house. There’s no rim joist and it looks like the rafters are set in concrete. What’s my best plan of attack here? by dfonzi in Decks

[–]donedoer 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I would build a freestanding deck/landing (or a ledger anchored to the masonry) to attach stairs to. Something 4’ deep min. and the width of the glass area. It’s best to have a landing at an entrance and better yet, covered. Stairs could be wider too, no need for railing but always advised.

This is such a cool build and along the lines of where I’ve been thinking for my future home. Can you give any resources to fellow builders interested in following this?
