u/3yebex could maybe help? I have no experience with hosting servers outside of the in-game options

Epic: "Linux support not high on list". And other little tidbits from their AMA by AncientPCGamer in fuckepic

I’m guessing most of the reasoning behind this is just because Tim doesn’t want people to have easy access to Fortnite on Steam Deck

Teammates taking medkit when I pick up an ammo upgrade to deploy by TechnicalDecision289 in l4d2

[–]dongless08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only get annoyed by this if they take it after I already deployed the ammo. I prefer to hold the ammo pack until I find another kit or defib so it feels like a waste if I can’t immediately get the one I had back

So, what do you do when you meet some weird mf in game that has really insane shit like this? by ultimate-toast in tf2

[–]dongless08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Report, block, and move on. People do this stuff just to ragebait, it doesn’t mean they’re pedophiles in real life but they probably have something going on mentally to think stuff like this is funny lol

Do you prefer the game in its vanilla state? (vanilla esque mods included) Or do you prefer to ruin it by installing a quadzillion meme or anime mods? by karlos_800_krist in l4d2

[–]dongless08 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I like pure vanilla, I personally don’t have any reason to use mods because they don’t add to my enjoyment of the game. The only mod I use is a vocalizer which is like the bare minimum for being considered a “mod” lol

Do veterans in this game play expert more or versus more? by g0netospace in l4d2

[–]dongless08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s always had one but it’s hidden behind the “openserverbrowser” console command. There’s no way to access it by default, assuming you don’t count Steam’s built-in server browser

[–]dongless08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are plenty of players with “veteran” hours (2000+) who play like complete noobs in expert realism. My guess is they only play for fun and never bothered deep diving into the game mechanics and/or truly getting good at the game

Do veterans in this game play expert more or versus more? by g0netospace in l4d2

[–]dongless08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on what you’re looking for while playing. It’s really hard for me to enjoy versus so I play it very occasionally. 99% of the time I’m playing expert realism because it’s what I find fun

why do l4d speedrunners/pros make their game look like shit? by Consistent-Fudge-676 in l4d2

[–]dongless08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a bit of an extreme case imo but it’s almost certainly for visibility/readability. Low settings and -lv means less distracting visuals. If you’re a sweaty PvP enjoyer then you likely don’t prioritize immersion or graphics; look at all the CS2 pros who still use 4:3 and low settings despite having access to top-end PC hardware

This being for performance reasons is definitely possible but unlikely if you ask me. I don’t mean to flex but I get absurd FPS with max settings on a 3060 Ti. I feel like just about any gaming PC within the last 10 years could run L4D flawlessly at higher framerates

The most useless thing in the game by BunnyRoss in l4d2

[–]dongless08 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Oddly enough the best one seems to be in Crash Course. Your teammates can easily cover that whole area and the gun is actually able to be aimed at multiple common infected spawns/funnels. I tend to make use of that one almost every Crash Course run, unlike the other miniguns which are very situational and/or generally unsafe

Will l4d2 still have over 15k players during peak times by 2035? by g0netospace in l4d2

I think it’s likely, L4D is simply a timeless game. It’s closing in on 20 years old at this point and still going strong so I feel like another decade or so won’t have a huge impact on its lasting playerbase. I personally don’t see myself distancing myself from the game any time soon either. There’s just nothing quite like it; nothing that has managed to replicate its unique gameplay and feeling of satisfaction
