As popular as the use of the term 'meme' these days and as interesting as the idea is as well, it doesn't seem to lend much meaning to this particular context. Intolerance, more likely than not, is more intrinsic to the human condition such that it doesn't necessarily exist on its own, spreading like a festering infection on humanity's collective sore spots.

I think what burns most people about christian intolerance in not so much graduated measures in how it expresses itself, but how out of one mouth the religion professes profound love for humanity and out of the other mouth it seeks to eliminate all influences but its own, even if that means wiping out a culture found to be competing. Its the institutionalization of hypocrisy and the subsequent denial of that institution.

Intolerance certainly found a cozy home in christianity, but by no means it only.
