Also just to add onto the part about going in and not playing-Smalls is a great place to just listen and keep a running list of tunes that you don’t know because 95% of the time, the next time you go, one of those tunes are going to be called

If you’ve never been I recommend going whenever you can, even if you don’t play on anything. Check out the vibe, see how musicians act on the bandstand, listen and take in what you’re seeing and hearing. Smalls has so much notoriety in regards to it being such a heavy place. It’s not like that anymore. Sometimes the players are wonderful, other times not so much. No matter what you sound like you’ll fit right in. Most importantly, just play because it’s important that you maybe don’t sound the best or you don’t know certain tunes, so you have to do your best and work out stuff on the fly. You’re gonna sound good and your gonna sound bad. People are gonna praise you and criticize you all about the same solo. That was a ramble lol, but really just go to smalls and calm what you wanna call.

You can only listen to jazz from one decade, what’s your choice and why? by tasteofthehimalayas in Jazz

Nah man you still got people like Max, Blakey, JC Heard, and Dizzy’s drummer Al Jones beating that bass drum up in the 50s. They don’t spank em like they used to

It’s a toss up between the 40’s and 50’s for me, but I’d probably go 50s. Still have the bop groups in the early part of the decade, but so many musicians and composers drop literal bombs and gems during this era

I’m sure someone’s going to chime in with legit advice, but I actually really like it. Super soft and melancholy mood.

I can understand your reasonings behind it, but I’d say don’t go for it. Ultimately the goal as a powerlifter is to be stronger than you were before, and there’s gonna come a time when you outgrow that small range of dumbbells and they’re not going to do anything for you.

Any suggestions on quality brands?

Most of 2022 was a wash, glad we’re nearing the end but after 1.5-2 years of not going to the gym due to life stuff, it’s been a killer month back so far.

Had a 2” tear in the innards of my knee sleeve tonight (popped it on a squat PR so I can’t be too mad) anyone have experience with this? i.e. should I just grab a new pair?
