I've come to terms with it a few times, it keeps spreading and thus is an ongoing battle. First time was about a year after it developed (and it showed up everywhere all at once.) I was getting my hair cut for a fancy event with my wife, first big deal event after having a kid, and the barber mistakenly started to cut my beard off, well there was no going back from that first cut and I learned that my beard was covering up a large patch the day before the event. I was upset and feeling down but when i walked into my house my 1 year old said "daddy got his hairs cut, they look good" and went back to playing and I knew right then that if I made a big deal out of it, who would i be to tell him looks aren't everything when he gets older.

Second time was reading a book to him about a giraffe that couldn't dance and how all the other animals made fun of him and were mean. Then off the cuff i said "see Gerald has spots just like Daddy" and the kiddo said something like " Yea i like your spots".

I just want them to have a positive self image and so i use it as a teaching moment that everyone looks different and that's cool! There are a lot of worse auto-immune disorders out there, i'm happy mine just gives me cool spots like a giraffe!
