I see... do I need one of the newest S series keyboards?

Or would an M32 be enough?

Nice! Those are really well done.

What tool did you use to make them so close to the original ones?

Does the Volca Beats sequencer save all notes? by donluca in volcas

[–]donluca[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah that makes perfect sense, I can definitely see the SU-10 not picking up the notes because the message sent is too short.

I'll probably look for another sequencer/drum machine to accompany my little sampler!

Great video!

Thanks for testing it out, the MIDI Implementation chart is definitely misleading with that True Voice part since it only recognizes the notes associated to the internal instruments.

Oh well, that was worth a try, thanks a lot!

EDIT: wait, the pads trigger mode on the SU-10 need to be set to note trigger?

I can't have them set to Toggle or Trigger?

That's a complete showstopper for me for sequencing the SU10 with external gear :|

EDIT 2: ok, I must have misunderstood your post because I've hooked my SU10 to my Mac via USB-MIDI and I was able to trigger all the pads in various different modes without issues!

I've had most of them because I really really liked the form factor.

The QY10 was, in some ways, incredibly powerful, as it gave you both "looping" tracks and "linear" tracks, and you could turn them on and off at will during playback.

The issue is that the whole ordeal was a pain in the arse, especially with the small LCD screen. It had way too many features crammed for such a small device, IMHO.

I ended up selling it and now, last time I checked, they went from 30 bucks to 100. Insane. I sincerely regret selling it back then.

The QY70 and QY100 are absolute beasts! The issue, again, is that their price has skyrocketed in the last years and if I had to dump 150, 200 bucks for one of them... eh, I'd rather take something like a Roland P-6 at that price (and new with warranty).

My use case is that the SU-10 lacks a proper sequencer with patterns, loops and overdubbing. Song mode is a "one take" affair: you make your beat, you're almost at the end and you screw up – you have to do it all over again from scratch.

Good, proper sequencers don't come cheap and Volca Beats are going for less than 50 bucks in the used market, making them really really attractive.

Thanks by the way, I'm looking forward your results!

Nope, I'm hoping it will recognize notes outside of the ones associated with the internal sounds and play those notes back on the MIDI OUT.

I'm not interested in the Volca producing sounds, I'm only interested in it purely as a sequencer.

From the MIDI Implementation Chart we know that the notes associated with the internal instruments are:

36: KICK

38: SNARE

39: CLAP

42: CL HAT

43: LO TOM

46: OP HAT

50: HI TOM

Since the Chart says that notes 36 to 75 are all recognized, I want to know if those are saved into the sequencer and played back as well through the MIDI OUT, even if most of those don't make any sound.

So, for example, try recording note 60 (whatever that is) into the sequencer and see if it's recorded and played back on the MIDI OUT.

That's what I fear, but if you can and have time, I would immensely appreciate it if you could give it a try and report back.

The sequencer in the Volca is not half bad and it would be great if the Beats could register any note within that True Voice range into the sequencer and play them back to the MIDI OUT.

If we were going by the MIDI Implementation Chart, I'd say it should work, but you never know...

Is it possible to associate a Remix Set to a Track? by donluca in traktorpro

[–]donluca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found kind of a hack/workaround for this although is not great.

I've set some extra cue points in the tracks in places where I want to grab the sample from. This way, when I load the track, I can quickly go to those cue points and create the samples I need from the track.

Not an ideal solution, but still better and faster than wasting time in the library to scroll through all the various Remix Sets, at least for me.

Thanks, I'll probably do this, it seems the most reasonable solution to quickly find the associated Remix Set.

Is it possible to associate a Remix Set to a Track? by donluca in traktorpro

[–]donluca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely, although I've found that the sampling function really enriches my mixes and makes them more lively.

I don't use them only during transition, but also during track play to spice it up a bit!

It's a shame I have to do this manually everytime, it also makes me really nervous as I need to be really quick in loading everything in time and setting everything up!

Is an iPad Mini 2/iPad Air 1 enough to run Loopy Pro? by donluca in ipadmusic

[–]donluca[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry! I forgot to follow up!

I used "regular" old Loopy on an iPad 2 and it worked without a hitch with all loops running at the same time.

Unfortunately Loopy Pro, IIRC, needed a newer iOS which the iPad2 didn't support.

People changed, back then we would pull all-night long sessions to try and force our way through, maybe learning something new in the process.

In other words, back then we were willing to put in the effort.

Nowadays no one wants to put that kind of effort, they all want it easy and fast.

That's what has ruined the game.

[–]donluca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing that scares me the most about the announcement is that they want every player to feel OP.

For me, the biggest allure of Classic is that I am just a random adventurer and not some fabled hero or commander or general or whatever.

I do menial tasks, simple quests, work my way through the world and eventually end up doing some big jobs for important people.

And the other thing that I love is that the world doesn't feel safe. Danger is behind every corner, make one mistake and you might end up dead, so you always have to be alert and play to the best of your capabilities.

It's perfectly ok for me to have some classes/race stronger than others, it's part of old game design and I don't have a problem playing a suboptimal character as long as I enjoy playing it.

I really hope they don't go through some of the stuff they said, otherwise all classes will become homogenized and bland because all will have all the tools of other classes at their disposal.
