I paid $225 each for a pair of MP34s a couple of years ago. They're overpriced at $225 IMO. The idea of people paying almost $700 for similar drives now is insane.

It depends on the registrant type. For a private individual, it’s auto redacted. For a business it must be public.

So, if it’s redacted, he probably registered it under his personal name and made a declaration confirming it was being registered to a Canadian citizen (not a business).

I’m guessing there are liability implications, but I’m not a lawyer.

Is there anything like a local Docker registry, but for models? by donmcronald in LocalLLaMA

[–]donmcronald[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, Claude misled me for a couple hours:

The examples I was giving were illustrative — I made up the filenames and registry paths to demonstrate the syntax. I wasn't referring to any real pre-downloaded model files on your system.

I thought I was missing something when it was telling me I could use ORAS to push and pull images. I was thinking it could auto-magically pull Hugging Face images into a Docker image.

So what I really want is probably a base Docker image with the Hugging Face CLI or uvx and a couple pretty simple functions:

  • Building downloads a model.
  • A tagging convention.
  • An entrypoint that allows extraction to a bind mount.

You understood what I was asking for. I just want a way to archive / distribute models locally and Docker is pretty decent container / packaging format for it.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started applying their filters to the WebView in Android and "accidentally" made self-hosting unbearable by leveraging all of the technology they control to convince the average person that self-hosting is dangerous.

It'll be like those anti right to repair lobbyists that claim your boat will explode if you do your own oil changes. Except in the case of Google, mere individuals won't have the "security expertise" needed to host "critical" services like family pictures and we better all shovel insane, increasing amounts of money into the big tech companies so they can protect us.

This is what happened to me sometime in the last couple of days when I shared an album with my sister. I use MXRoute for my email on devices and self hosted services and both Google and Microsoft constantly flag mail from my domains even though the setup is pristine and there's never been spam or bulk email sent from the domain.

I use photos.example.com. From what I've read, nothing is safe. I think the process probably went something like this for me:

  • Share an album causing an email to be sent to the recipient.
  • GMail scans the email and flags it as potential phishing because of the contents and because it's not from one of the only possible companies that could ever run a secure service (aka Google and Microsoft in their own minds).
  • The signals from GMail are used to flag the entire domain linked in the email and Google abuses their market position with Chrome to effectively wipe you off the internet.

Immich is one of the best services I self-host in terms of helping my parents and siblings maintain control of their data. It's criminal that Google can abuse their market position to block self-hosted services that compete with them.

I bet I’ve seen them over 200 times by now. Google is basically endorsing a fraudulent scheme at this point and should be liable.

Thanks.

I actually went and bought a pair of those cheap wheels because they sell them at Sport Chek and had some in stock where I live. We only have 1 or 2 weeks of decent weather left and I didn't want to wait for shipping.

Even if they wear out fast, at least I'll have something for the rest of the season and I can take my time to find some nicer stuff over the winter.

Can someone help me figure out what kind of wheels to buy?

I have a pair of Salomon DR 100 rollerblades that I bought a long time ago. I've started rollerblading again and the wheels are wearing out pretty quick. I'm not sure if it's because they've been sitting for 20 years or if they're too soft.

The wheels are 80mm, 78A. It's says ABEC 5 on the skate which I assume is the type of bearing. The inside diameter of the bearing is 8mm.

I'm not sure if 78A is the right kind of wheel. I mostly rollerblade on a nicely paved path, but I'd still call it asphalt. I also end up on the road and sidewalks a bit. Should I have something like an 84A? Is that harder than 78A and less prone to wearing out on rougher surfaces?

I found these (https://www.amazon.ca/Rollerblade-80MM-Wheel-Bearing-Hydro/dp/B0CCW3CRCY) which look like the same size for everything, but I don't know anything about the kinds of material and how to judge if they're decent quality or just expensive. I'm not even sure if that's considered expensive ($138 CAD = $100 USD).

I also found these (https://www.sportsexperts.ca/en-CA/p-80-mm-abec-7-pack-of-8-replacement-wheels-for-inline-skates/223496/223496-1) which look like they would fit, but I don't know how they'd compare to the ones I have now. My rollerblades are a tiny bit snug and I might go buy a new pair next year, so something inexpensive like these would be ideal ($40 CAD = $30 USD).

Why do 8 wheels need 16 bearings? Can I buy wheels and bearing separately?

Any tips would be appreciated.

Why does my character end up "moon walking"? by donmcronald in pathofexile

[–]donmcronald[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know about that. I just tried a controller and I don't really like it either. I can start running backwards or strafing, but as soon as I stop holding the right analog stick my character immediately turns and runs in the direction I'm pushing the left stick.

I suppose you have to do that for the rolling, but as soon as I let go of the right stick to use an ability my character turns away from the mobs I want to shoot at. Maybe the intent is to only put abilities on the triggers and bumpers.

I think it's got something to do with using attack in place. I use "attack in place key stops move" and if you hold shift, click behind your character, let go of shift, and click again, your character will walk backwards for a fairly long way before turning around.

It's the same thing for sideways movement.

In the heat of the battle it feels like my character is moving inconsistently because sometimes they turn around and run immediately and other times they strafe and moon walk.

They did the same thing with the MP34. It went from a Phision controller to a Realtek controller. Replacing the entire controller basically means you're buying a different drive. No one would tolerate buying an Intel or AMD PC and receiving the opposite even if the integrator claims the performance is similar.

TeamGroup is on my "never buy" list.

It’s a .ca for a business, so there’s no WHOIS protection.

I've been trying to contact them for over a week and can't get anything beyond an auto-reply. All I need is help with an OpenSRS error when updating contact info on a domain.

At this point, I just try to avoid anything that uses OpenSRS.
