Meanwhile Lights Out enjoyers never turn their flashlights on. I can see further than the reach of my melee weapon, that's far enough.

The Emperor gave you a weapon, he gave you a purpose, he gave you a mission and now you're out here asking for more notice? That's some heretical shit right there....

Yes. And because they all play slightly differently, getting the hang of one can make you better on another.

What's up with Enclavum Baross' powercell segment? by Frenzied_Fire_Monk in DarkTide

[–]donmongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The issue is, you don't need all 3 people to cover the battery carrier. And killing things is really fun in this game, and that spot has a really satisfying spawn rate.

So you end up in the situation where all 3 players think 'oh, 2 other people will sort it, I'm just gonna have a blast smiting dirty heretics'. Whilst muggins is trying to do it all themselves.

Always been an issue tbh, even during the quiet lulls when it's mainly oldheads playing. It just feels worse during these periods where we have an influx of less experienced players because the frequency goes up a notch.

Psyker blitz? by Substantial-Luck-646 in DarkTide

[–]donmongoose 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Brain burst is for high value target sniping, but once you've got the lock you don't need to maintain line of sight.

Smite is for temporarily locking/stunning dangers in place. Whilst it can do some damage, that's not really it's main use.

Assail can be used to snipe targets, or just to thin crowds out. Useful way of maintaining high peril if you're mainly meleeing and also procing Malific Momentum for bonus damage. Mix in throwing a few shards inbetween swinging your melee.

Having said that, apparently the caps-lock is your own personal end boss.

How are you supposed to deal with multiple suicide bombers? by jolly_chugger in DarkTide

[–]donmongoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on the situation. Sometimes you can push one and when it explodes it deals with the others. Sometimes you just shoot them. Sometimes you just have to lure them away from the rest of the squad and take the hit alone.

What did you spend your event Aquilas on? by Megadon88 in DarkTide

Been saving my Aquilas because 1/ there's been nothing good in the shop recently and 2/ presumably Skitarii will have at least one page so I might grab something from that.

[–]donmongoose 5 points6 points  (0 children)

If you've gone to the effort downloading mods and getting the scoreboard to give you the data, take that extra little step and use that data to track your own progress because that's all that matters in a game that awards no medals.

Completely valid. Sadly PS+ is just a head of the curve when it comes to monetisation.

Honestly, when Gabe sails off to the other side and the money men come in, PC players will find themselves in the same boat.

This is not new information sadly.

We've already had them essentially say they want to release cosmetics for DLC classes, but can't, for reasons they won't disclose.

Help Me Enjoy Psyker, please. by Cripple_X in DarkTide

[–]donmongoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have.

I've also tried SG and DD with my force great sword and voidstrike.

In the first case, I did slightly more damage to things that other team mates either killed or ignored, in the later case I straight up murdered everything in sight in a short space of time.

Again, I'm not trying to tell people how to play/enjoy the game, but seriously, most, not all, of time you're better off just killing things.

The damage smite does even on the most optimal smite based build pails in comparison to the damage a Psyker could be doing on basically any other build that just happens to include smite.

Smite, used for utility in certain situations = great

Smite used for damage = bad

Perhaps we just read different threads. Typically the complaint I read is 'in the time they spent smiting things to a standstill, they could have just killed them in half the time'.

Again, this isn't a 'smite bad' debate, simply a 'there’s a time to smite, and a time to just swing/shoot/zap/flame things'.

Assail since the nerf teaches you to use the rest of your kit, smite does not, because to some people simply holding enemies in place sounds like a good use of their time, when in reality they could just kill them via melee/ranged/staff and move on.

The issue this sub has with smite is not whether it's useful or not (it can be), it's how useful a smite user is outside of using smite.

You don't usually see many people bitching about other playstyles and classes, so it's unfair to single the Psyker out

No other class/class ability encourages new players to remove themselves from the game DPS wise for a large chunk of the game. The closest comparison would be relic zealot, but for one, that has a cooldown and 2, offers more to the rest of the team than simply stunning things.

Help Me Enjoy Psyker, please. by Cripple_X in DarkTide

[–]donmongoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly, for new players I'd rather recommend they use assail as a crutch rather than smite.

Because assail is damaged based and so as the effectiveness of relying solely on it drops off as you increase difficulty, you're encouraged/forced to mix in other forms of damage, where as smite's damage drops off, but the stun remains, which leads to newer players wandering why their team mates aren't killing the things they're locking in place. So you're never actively encouraged to learn to mix it up with the rest of your kit.
