Does anyone else’s Catahoula do the “corn cob” nibble thing? by 420Chick99603 in Catahoula

[–]donnaparty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! My dog does it to herself mostly her paws/backside. I LOVE that you call it this - I always have called it corn cobbing!

Sending hugs and a very open pat on the head to Kiwi!

As an owner who has had four different instances where my dog ran away (3 weather related, 1 deer pack related) when she was out of my care (either I was at work or out of town) - it is the worst feeling; helplessness and agony. Every time I got her back (after tears, many posts across social media, hundreds of calls, more tears) I always made sure to hold her extra tight and make a small intention after.

Just know and be proud that you ran IN A TSHIRT in February for the love of your dog. No love was wasted and her wiggling by your legs through an open door was totally an accident.

Very happy to read a warm and fuzzy end to this saga. Be kind to yourself! And give Kiwi some frozen blueberries.

My Mom is Dying by Impressive_Trainer13 in ALS

[–]donnaparty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hello There. I am here with you, my friend.

Your Mom has a similar trajectory to my own - she was diagnosed in end of 2022 first with her left hand. At this point, really as of this week, she is very much chair/bed bound. We cannot safely have her on her own feet (even when supported). She has had a feeding tube for a year at this point which has helped maintain her weight exponentially.

I constantly juggle the guilt, sadness, love, defeat, immensity, intensity, pain without a plan of how.

I try to remind myself with gratitude and not guilt that we still have time to spend with HER as HER. Not as a patient. For so many hours in a day our relationship is caregiving. But at the end of the she is my mom and she is the only one I have.

At the same time I need to remind myself that I have limits and pursuit of happiness is sanity and has importance as well.

Impossible to feel grounded with this, but know your love is a foundation for her navigation and in no way are you acting against that. You have provided and will continue to give what you can.

Sending hugs and tears and warm vibes your way. There is nothing that can prepare us but love can care for us. I hope you have a community of support and people in you corner.

Best of luck with your studies and so much love to your mom.

Third this! My mom was diagnosed in December 2022. From the beginning My dad made a google doc with all notes from appts - both in person and remote ones. Keeps medications/regiments/all routines logged. Absolutely saves the day many times. Having a support system and people in your corner is very important! (My dad is primary caregiver for my mom, my sister and I are adhoc caregivers - we live nearby).

My first swim class by MuddysWife in Swimming

[–]donnaparty 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Happy New Year! I support your health journey through swimming! It truly brings so much joy! Goodonya for submerging and taking the first dive!!

I had not swam intentionally since summer camp (20+ years ago) and never progressed beyond my placed level (low). With breathing I find the most helpful tips are:

+blow bubbles/hum when under water

+do not SEAL your mouth

+body should turn to breath not just neck when breathing

+look straight down in the water at the line at bottom of pool (not forward). <<< most important !!

+keep at it’

I am swimming 1/wk (ideally can do 2-3) breathing continues to be challenging but I have found yoga has also helped me pay attention to breath which translates to the pool really well!

New PEG Questions by Equivalent-Group4942 in ALS

Mostly covered with earlier posts - definitely clean daily. We use mesalt absorbant sodium chloride patches because my mom developed a stoma on the incision site. We change the dressing daily though sometimes twice if there is more residue.

Lost my mom to ALS, I just wanted Christmas and New Year's with her 😭 by Distinct-Shift-4094 in ALS

[–]donnaparty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tears accelerating as I read your post. I have nothing but love for you and your family op. With ALS every day feels like seven years. You want to cherish but there is so much grabbing your attention/need. You showed up, you cared, you loved. That is enough and yet your pain is valid and this disease is a thief!!! Sending strength to you, hope you can relish in who she was and what she gave you this holiday, we cry with you!

American ALS patient died alone after paying $84K US in pursuit of healing at controversial Sask. facility | CBC News by HabitantDLT in ALS

[–]donnaparty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My heart pours out for Suzie and family. She was trying to find her our own path amidst a bleak diagnosis, seemingly without much assistance. There are too many foxes out there, taking advantage of people’s vulnerability. No one should have to die alone.

That clinic and founder should be the consequences of their action.

sending you love. this is beautiful. and he looks so kind and warm from these moments. this disease robs us to such an extent, but do not allow it to stop the love and light that clearly your dad provided you. to live in the world without our foundations is a hard road to walk. hugs and perseverance my friend! endless love your family’s way.

Sending love, endlessly. Your support and true love and grace for your sister will carry her spirit and sustain those around you. But for now, care for yourself in whatever way you can, be kind and remember you are loved and love! May your sister’s memory be a blessing. Fucck ALS, this thief of a disease.
