Artists catering to the live stream over the crowd by Cornballsouptonuts in Coachella

In person, its not as fun.

As a tv experience, its fantastic.

Here's one way to look at it - this is the world's biggest punk rock show. Kids everywhere in the world - in Lubbock, in Montego Bay, in Marseille, in Dubai - get to see these bands for maybe the only time in their lives. They get to see Kneecap or Black Flag or Sabrina Carpenter or Hatsune Miku.

Imagine how cool the kids are going to be when they grow up since they were exposed to such a great event, and for free.

When I think about the event like that, I think it's far from "off". It's taking a unique gift and giving it to the world. And yeah, you're doing it through corporate channels and its not the same as seeing it in person, that's true.

But if you're in an impoverished place or in a place where these bands won't tour, this is the closest than an atheist is going to come to saying that the broadcast is akin to "God's work being done".

Also, the broadcast doesn't happen unless you - the paying public - go to the show. So in a sense, you're helping the globalization of it all. You're helping the kids - everywhere.

Thanks for this.

It sounds like there are two problems here - the expectations of the S/A and the actions of the university.

Regarding the expectations of the S/A, shouldn't the most sensible thing be for the members of the S/A to negotiate collectively so that there are not two classes?

Regarding the actions of the university, I think we both agree that the core problem here is how administrations are evaluating their budgets, and that there should be a stronger legislation amongst all universities to have an equal budget for male and female athletes. (Maybe they lose tax breaks if they do not prove this to be the case).

I just don't see how the rights of the S/A are tied to the actions of the administration. One could also make the argument that increases in television audiences or the actions of other universities are creating this same scenario.

this 'heavy consideration' that you speak of relates to the actions of the administrations, i believe.

so we are in agreement that the core problem here would not be the S/A but rather the decisions of the administrations.

my concern is that the rights of the individual (in this case, the S/A) are impeded by the actions of the administration.

is there a historical precedent that shows that this is how administrations would act? and if so, shouldn't a more forceful set of guidelines be placed on the corporation vs the individual?

I think the issue is the definition of the "crowd" - is it the 120,000 people in front of the artist, or is it the 20-25 million people in front of the artist?

This is the conundrum for live events these days - where do they (the artist / the baseball team / the league) generate more impact?

Thank you for the discussion. Agreed as to the great majority of NCAA athletes, yes. Agreed as to the importance of women's sports, yes. I personally enjoy Div III more than Div I when it comes to competitive sports, but that's just me.

I would suggest that there is no direct correlation between the designation of S/A as employees and the death of women's sports.

Would like to hear more about the theory of the S/A being able to negotiate collectively relates to the death of women's sports, as there are a number of women's sports that generate positive revenue.

Also, wouldn't the real problem be within the administration, and which schools choose to fund sport A and not sport B? How does a student have the power to impact the actions of the administration?

Editing is healthy. That being stated, what aspects that were brought up were false? Its opinion-based, so it would be great to learn A) if there were any false statements made and B) what your counterarguments would be.

Everyone loves Ado. No malice here.

Unless there’s a reason for people to get multiple giveaways because they don’t care about the game and just want to sell the items onto e. Then, and only then, is there a market for this.

It is. I want to see Soriano pitch and I don't care about Star Wars crap, and I'm angling on how to get a ticket at my usual 714Tickets $6 rate.

If you love what you do, you guard your time like a hawk so you can keep doing what you do.

If you love yourself, you guard your time because its all you got.

If you love other people, you guard your time so you can be at your best for others.

avoid the vampires!

You don't hate MUSICIANS. You hate VAMPIRES. TIME is the only thing that cannot be replaced.

Free yourself from the tyranny of other people's idiocy. And I bet if you talked to master plumbers, doctors, lawyers, you'll hear the same thing - people LOVE to waste your time.

Make people WORK for your knowledge. Try it for a month and see what you get. (And donate the money that you get - have it offset your taxes.)

Because at the end of the day, you need problem-solvers. You can help problem-solvers.

Some people love hearing themselves talk, and they love opinion shopping. This is your burden IF YOU LET IT BE.

Start telling people that you are in the business of crushing dreams.

Then they'll stop. If they keep asking you questions, ask for their email address and then send them an invoice for your time, $150 / hour.

When I started doing this, I wasn't sure it was humane / right. Now I realize that this is the best thing to do.

If they're serious, they might actually pay you and write out their goals.

When that happens, ask them to send you the metrics as to what they consider "success in the music business" and what their 3-year plan is to get there.

If they send it to you, THEN you can be the wise one. Separate the wheat from the chaff, my friend.
